It's still one valid method and up to date for GoD. Research was added to the game after GoD. Crescent Reach has revamp TS quests for all tradeskills, and they work a lot better/easier than the GoD ones, you dont have to delete leftover components to request more. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=22379
If you're on a live server, the only reason to do the Abysmal Sea quests instead of the CR quests is to gain the ability to refine all those GoD materials, which is helpful if you're trying to max out tradeskills. Otherwise, if you're just looking for the easy path to 54, CR is definitely better.
