Yes, they changed DoTs so that root/rot was more effective and kiting was less effective. I don't recall anyone ever saying it was because of an exploit, though.
  2. Waring_McMarrin Augur

I am pretty sure it was considered an exploit in early EQ along with other things such as FD splitting mobs when pulling.
  3. Demetri Augur

lol, revisionist history via partial statement. They expected a normal EQ session to be around 1 hr during initial development - they knew by the time I started playing - in Beta 3 - that "camping" was a thing.

Things discovered and known during beta that they accepted isn't "not intended" anymore. You could argue things like FD maybe... but no - take your EQAnon elsewhere.
  4. bardybard Augur

Ah so by that logic everything that wasn't explicitly intended by the devs after the game was released is an exploit?
  5. Demetri Augur

Yes, the summon mechanic was not an intended mechanic that is being ignored...
  6. Demetri Augur

There's exceptions to that as a rule - FD pulling would fall under that, but they opted to embrace it - going as far to make explicit posts explaining their initial stance and response and their change of thought on it.

The irony of this being posted by someone that used to exploit this in NToV. Sounds like someone is only mad cause bad and jealous.

OP needs the money from his illegal in game casinos are 3rd party RMT guild guys. Don't you dare lower the value of raid drops he needs them to be high so he can feed his family.

Leave krim alone, he doesn't need the money for food. He needs it for friends.

Gorenaire being killed inside an instance by several unguilded no name players, then selling PD loot in the tunnel.

I'm sure they killed it legitimately lol

Summon tanking has been around forever, it's even listed as a strat for a lot of boss fights in later expansions. Not sure why this is suddenly an issue unless i'm misunderstanding the OP.

This is not news, the devs are already aware it happens, and has been happening, for years.
  13. Demetri Augur

Sort of - THIS dev leadership is more recent though - and does seem a bit more focused on fixing things along these lines. After all you're the one that mentioned the old dev team thought of x64 changes being "impossible" being in the works now.
  14. taliefer Augur

this isnt summon tanking in the traditional sense. The rumor is there is a sweet spot between a mobs leash radius, and summon range that is able to be exploited so the mob just sits there taking damage, unable to reach/summon the person highest on its agro list while it gets beat down.

very similar to a video posted a couple years ago involving NTOV dragons. its a side effect of mobs with MoTM ignoring pets and transferring the agro they generate to the pet owner.

unfortunately the only way this is likely to get fixed is if players start doing it en mass, and in the open world. as is what happened with the NTOV video.

That sounds like something very different if you are talking about mobs that don't chase someone, don't summon someone and doesn't attack someone near them. It also appear that you don't know if this is really happening or not and are just basing this off rumors.

As far as I am aware of there is no range on an npc's summon ability and they can summon you from anywhere in the zone. And I also don't know of any mobs that won't run to the most hated target if they can't summon them and rooted mobs that don't attack the nearest person.

You don't play on TLPs do you, Waring? This only exists with MOTM for 100% sure, it might be the combo of MOTM + AoC DZs as well - I'm unsure on that part.

This is absolutely a phenomena that exists with MOTM and the hate transfer to owner while the pet can't hold aggro situation. It may be AoC DZ specific, but I bumped into it by accident myself just the other night with my mage box - we had a bad pull on a dragon - and had forgotten to move the box up and his pet assisted while it was running around and sat there and was soloing the dragon with no one else on hate until it died from the AE's.

If the pet was getting healed and/or there was other pets there, it probably could've been killed over a lengthy window if I had no scruples for legitimate play.

I'd heard about this previously from a guildmate who came from the defunct guild that was in that video Tali is referencing explained rather well, but not expounding on the complete details for obvious reasons. But in short, yes, it absolutely can happen - it takes a nexus of tweaks that are TLP specific to even attempt to my knowledge though.

in any DZ with the right exploit and time (1hr+) you can literally 3 - 6 man a raid mob down.
    In current era stuff.

I'm pretty certain the current devs know of this issue, sorry if the way I worded my remark made you think otherwise.
  19. Demetri Augur

No, my point was that they're trying things (engine upgrade) that previous dev leadership said was impossible.

We don't know why the old let this go on so long, but new dev leadership hasn't had a TLP launch previous to this one - so a new time to consider such - and if it was ignored because of difficulty in fixing before, they appear to be more willing to try to do harder fixes now with JChan vs. Holly.

Not saying what the odds are - but sometimes what looks like an easy fix as a player isn't development-wise - so while I'd say there's decent odds they'll still ignore, I'd say it is probably up at least a little.

    Player reveals a hidden exploit.
Exploiters immediately try an dismiss the exploit.
Exploiters then play devil's advocate lol.

Cause they were probably in on it for monetary gain.

Which leads me to my next statement - I'm pretty sure the people building 3rd party smack tools are those with extensive knowledge of the codebase (former developers).
