So buy some and get in on that action!

It'd be super cool if I could just buy what I want in the DBC store instead of the DBC casino. Ultimately these scams occur because the free market economy is more reliable than the RNG. It would feel very different if I could camp a mob for a no-trade item I want, or just buy the item I want for DBC, but when cash = crate = RNG = nothing, I feel that the gambling experience of buying crates or the gambling experience of risking a 3rd party seller feel pretty similar, with the 3rd party seller being the more reliable and less expensive method to achieve the end goal. (I have not made any out of game transactions, but I have used DBC to purchase crates.)

Beware of heritage crate illusion resellers the fundamental human condition of having to decide how much time, effort, and other resources you need to utilize to obtain something you desire which may have widely varying degrees of scarcity and may also be highly desirous by other people.

This. Just list premium items on the marketplace for a nominal fee and do away with any sort of RNG factor.

They should put in a guaranteed illusion and mount bundle for $129-$179.

You can either gamble with crates and possibly get it early on or just pay $129-$179 to get the illusion directly from Darkpaw.

Or just buy them or not buy them.

For someone complaining about a few kronos in cost, do you realize just how many krono's it would take to get to the price you suggested above?

WTF? They are leased pixels in a game we already pay a monthly rental fee for. You're suggesting to charge double a years rent to lease an item in our rented world?

They won't change the RNG (crate) model if they are making $100-$500 per head currently.

In other words, the only way they'll do a guaranteed heritage illusion is to charge a prohibitively expensive price. It would be the point where they think they'll break even - which I doubt is anything less than $100.

Leave heritage crates the way they are and do not offer a direct buy method.

Benito, your ideas about resellers are pretty abstract and self centered. Time to take a step off the soap box.

So my original post was poorly worded and it's actually causing more confusion than I originally intended. Even Mepps thought it was a blanket critique of reselling. The distinction was later drawn between Krono resellers (who hoard and monopolize multiple illusions) and your average Joe reseller (who may get 1 extra).
  12. Duder Augur

The same ideology from your first post has been amended to specify those who resell illusions at a later point. So, someone who buys an illusion at its current value, and holding onto it until it's worth more is somehow bad? Value appreciation is a rare thing in EQ and you want one of the very few things that has that value appreciation to change?

The dynamic is different when the 3-4 serverwide Krono resellers (people who have hundreds of Krono) wade into the market. I am not talking about your average Joe. *These* people are purposely increasing scarcity and hoping to manipulate the market (by buying any Visage that is available in the bushels).

Edit: These types of resellers will also list the illusions on RMT sites.

Alright, well, it didn't seem like you were admonishing only in the case of krono resellers. But I admit I did not read all of your replies so may have missed some distinction.

y'know what resellers are SUPER uninterested in? paying fair prices. if you want to shut them down, just pay fair prices, and boom resellers're out the market. Anyone who's mad that they're offering more is complaining that their own lowball offer is being laughed off as the nonsense it is.

In the case of heritage illusions, Krono resellers are paying "fair prices" (3-6 Krono). But they hope to control supply by the time the crate rotates out. They will then hold the illusion "hostage" and flip it for 10-15 Krono (or whatever $200 they'll charge on RMT sites).
  18. Nennius Curmudgeon

To clarify. They put up capital for an item. They then hold the item for a period of time until it's perceived (remembering that no one actually needs this item to play the game well) value increases. They then attempt to sell the item for what the market will bear. Thus the risk is theirs, keeping in mind that NO ONE has to buy it at all.

    And the problem is?

Imagine spending a 500$+ rl cash (a months with of groceries for a family of 5 or 1-2 car payments) for a cosmetic skin in a 20 year old game and thinking the fault resides with anyone other than yourself. I wonder what 500$ in crypto would get.

They are buying it up (knowing they are very rare) and taking away supply opportunities from actual collectors/players.
