Hadden (and respecting camps)

Modern EQ is nothing like P99 and does not represent itself as being comparable in any way. Counting active accounts on all servers, EQ is probably 20x the size of P99. There isn't close to the number of staff on DPG's payroll to have the per-capita level of GM supervision you see over there. (They aren't exactly free of toxicity issues of their own, either, despite the greater GM presence.) Aradune is the first DBG/DPG-run TLP server to have visible, and paid, GM support at all, and it's still a short-term experiment, meaning it could go away soon.

Social community building in any modern MMO = joining a guild. That choice is entirely the player's responsibility. The company isn't going to tell you whether to join a guild or play solo. If you do play solo, you will never have the same level of social community most of the other players you see have already obtained via the guilds they chose. If you are in a decent guild, you will get help in obtaining key drops you need, in exchange for your helping other guildmates along the way. If you play solo in an MMO, you are entirely on your own for what you can make out of it. You won't find any social community as a solo player by demanding it.

But your 1st move was to try and intimidate me and I know what you were saying was not true. Then the next day I log on and Hadden was up so I killed it , she was AFK - that's on her , not me... I really don't see why you felt the need to twist the narrative a bit and say i called you a name - I challenge you to post any SS of me calling you any type of derogatory word or insult besides saying you were lying.

Really? I'm sure a lot of players who moved to Rizlona when they literally could not log in for weeks to Aradune are grateful for this tidbit of information.

I didn't say you called me a name. I said I felt your behaviour towards me was selfish, and ultimately became unfriendly and quite disrespectful towards a person whose only 'crime' was standing in a spot that you coveted for yourself. When you didn't get your way, you resorted to language intent on belittling me in an attempt to make me feel small and intimidated, claiming that server staff supports 'dps races' on a mob like Hadden (of all things, let alone implying that they condone this behaviour at all). You made made good on your 'threats' the following morning when you logged in, saw me there, and took your shot without a moment's hesitation.

I did not have my logfile enabled on my laptop this morning, but I quoted the only two lines you offered up in chat as a very direct mock towards the fact that I was there first, again. I made the post here copying those two lines you sent verbatim.

I was not AFK as you suggest, and you know this because I sent you a tell right as you camped after killing Hadden. I was looking at the computer screen right next to the laptop screen where I saw your fire spell cast within the amount of seconds it takes to cast a spell. You took your opportunity without a second's thought to another player, probably taking out a little vengeance while you did it simply because you didn't log in earlier, and someone else who didn't give in to your 'bribes and threats' the night before was there first.

Well I'm sorry you feel that way , I've felt the similiar sting of others killing a mob I was AFK waiting for in front of me when I was a moment away from my controls. I just simply behaved like every single other person I've encountered there. I however didn't presume to tell them how to go about their behavior and play a game they choose to play for their own enjoyment. Like I said had you not threatened to petition I wouldv'e just sat and got the timer. Anyways I really hope you get your ear and good luck.

There are just as many entitled or antisocial players on P99 as there are here, (or in any game). The primary difference on P99 is that there are rulesets around camps and player interactions that are respected by these types of players, because incidents like these are regularly investigated and followed up on. Sometimes it's just a direct warning by a member of the staff, in extreme cases offences result in a partial or permanent ban.

Hadden is a fun one. My favorite method when you're outgunned is to wait until your competition starts casting a nuke, and then quickly pull Hadden underwater to kill him so their nuke doesn't land.

Oh, and OP's sanctimonious "you might want to reread the ToS" in that chat log while referring to a rule that literally does not exist in said ToS is pretty funny.

While I will agree that this is a vague designation and open to wide interpretation, would you say that showing up in someone's 'camp', attempting to 'bribe' them out, and when they do not comply do you then resort to intimidation and threats that imply that your patient waiting will be undermined by unwanted interference (dps races, etc.)? Would you say that making good on those threats just hours later is respecting the dignity or rights of another person, whose intention you know matches your own, but they were patiently waiting there first?

I will refer to my queue reference here again. If you are the 10th person in a lineup waiting to buy something, and 9 other people were there before you waiting longer than you were waiting, yet there are only 9 things left, are you actually more entitled to have said item than they are (because you feel more deserving for some personal reason)? If none of those 9 people respond positively to your bribes to have the thing they are waiting for, do you then proceed to tell them that as soon as it is available everyone is expected to mob rush the supplier and whomever walks away with one gets it?

No, you very rarely see behaviour like this (except perhaps the toilet paper phenomenon at COVID outbreak, or certain U.S. retail outlets on Black Friday), because it is disrespectful of the rights and dignity of those who were there before them. People don't behave this way in public because there are very real consequences and repercussions for behaving this way.

This is behaviour that some people claim is OK here though, and that's my point. I don't believe it is, and nor do others. But it keeps happening, because people get away with it to the point where people actually believe this behaviour is supported by staff.

As long as there aren't consequences for behaviour like this, the people in support of this behaviour (dps races, disrespecting camp claims, etc.), will continue to do it, and feel justified in so doing, as has been clearly demonstrated in this thread.

Uh, ok. I mean I get where you're coming from, I really do. It's frustrating to wait a long time for a spawn and then lose the race when it spawns. The game is not like it was 20 years ago. But you're citing a ridiculously vague line and claiming this guy is committing "a violation" by trying to kill the same mob as you. Meanwhile, this exact situation is actually addressed directly in your precious rulebook:

-There will be no first in force or engage rules arbitrated or enforced by a Game Master or Guide on any server.

There's no room for vague interpretations here, mate. You were there first, but nobody cares, including the folks who enforce the rules. You kill the mob, you win the loot. That is how the game works. The guy trying to kill the same mob as you did not committ any "violation." Trying to twist the "respect the rights and dignity of others" line into him breaking a rule by trying to kill the same mob as you is ridiculous, and I'm pretty sure you know that.

If someone WANTS to be cool about it and leave you to your "camp" alone that's up to them, but they are under no obligation to do so. If I saw a mage sitting on Hadden on the bot server I would immediately just assume someone is permakilling Hadden and not even bother responding at all. Further, a camp like Hadden which has a ridiculously long repop should come with no expectation of anyone honoring the fact that you had nothing better to do with your character than just sit it there for 5 hours. DPS on.

Take solace in the fact that eventually Dreamweaver will see this thread and delete it because you directly named a player ingame which is against the ACTUAL rules you attempt to hide behind, and the hole you've dug yourself into with logs will be gone (at least on THIS website).
