We need a truly Bot-Free Server

We just need ONE server like this. Mass boxing / krono farming is the single most toxic element in EQ. Give us a way to escape it.

Counter trolling doesn’t make you or him less wrong. Selo doesn’t have as many bots for two reasons, less population than Mangler (less does not equal none, far from it) to start with and once past Luclin/Planes of Power people are more spread out and loot is mostly no drop.

Selo definitely has some 24/7 botters... the economy at this point is just less fragile I would say. So it would take a lot more to "break" it.

I, too, wish dbg would start perma banning these blatant hackers.

This has been suggested repeatedly, and will continue to be shot down because you can't stop people from using tricks to make it seem like multiple systems in the same physical location are on radically different IPs.

The people invested in botting are simultaneously invested in circumventing technological changes that try to prevent them from botting, which means at the end of the day you're only hurting legitimate players who happen to play the game differently than you do. This is exactly what Truebox has done, and has proven to be a failure at stopping any of these problems.

The solution is gameplay changes, like what MOTM and AoCs did, but that's a whole different can of worms which will get people angry in a different way.

Without bots to do the farming, what about the multiple posters who bragged about their great real life job and being able to just purchase whatever they want for krono? Won't somebody think of them?

The only solution to botting would be draconian stuff like needing valid id on file matching name on cc used to pay for it, with legal action taken against cheaters. Or nobody on a server paying 3rd party sellers for goods or services, but that would never happen.

Maybe a better, simpler solution would be for DBG to stop being a bunch of tightwads and assign some extra hardware to allow a group of players to spin up any instance with all mobs available (including epic) and respawns etc.

No more fighting over camps, you and your buddies want GEBs and don't want to pay the box crews or have to deal with FG trains if you try to contest them, just spin up a Sol B instance and farm to your hearts content.

Selo is rapidly approaching DoDH which starts the implementation of group level instances that finally make it possible for everyone to do their own stuff, and for which open trade(FV) loot would have been a huge help. Krono farmers don't rejoice when there's widespread instancing that lets the market have more supply than just from the farmers.

Bot free or Box free? There are so many ways around a set IP, you can use a VPN etc.. There just needs to be a little bit of policing on some servers now and then. I mean if someone is monopolizing an area 24/7 and obviously a bot, farming, then it should be dealt with. Anything that really interferes with peoples enjoyment of the game, needs to be addressed. There aren't that many servers, where a couple GMs couldn't jump on and see whats going on. If it looks shady, then talk to the person doing it and observe their behavior.

Maybe if EQ operated only in countries that require proof of identity to access the internet, but until then there's literally no logistical way to achieve this.

It's entirely possible to have a single character that is a bot. On RF there were single bots farming bone chips in Paineel for the bone chip quests.

Could just use the check what services running on your computer (which we all agree to when we click agree every time we log in), and if it sees a disallowed service running, ban.

It wouldn't work for stopping VPNs. Trying to maintain a list of "illegal" VPN software would be a nightmare.

VPN software isn't nearly as bad as the botting software but I get where you are coming from.

Try and find any on line game anywhere that is not botted and hacked to bits, at least in EQ we don't get much of spammers going on about "buy your in game gold at www farmerRus com " every 30 seconds....

You will get the server you want, and then you will leave it because of low population back to what you say you hate.

I don't know if you have noticed, but a large portion of new TPL server populations is due to people boxing, and not Boting. There is a huge difference between the two.

Take away the ability for people to Box, and you can have a server almost to yourself. But there are already plenty of servers you can almost have to yourself available already.

Impossible! VPN's make everyone's IP anonymous because where we are is not DBG's, the governments, or anyone elses business. One can set up each PC with a different IP. Actually, DBG has already made this an almost necessity as they disconnect many that are boxing within the rules that don't use VPN's.
