I think Vegas would be really cool though, so many Convention centers. Also you can do so many things in Vegas. Did I mention the food/nightlife and much cheaper than most places in the U.S.
Honestly, anything short of a conference like SoE used to have in Las Vegas is going to be disappointing. /sigh
Dallas would be a great place to host a fan event. There are numerous conventions in the Dallas/Fort Worth area throughout the year. Retrofest in March - https://www.facebook.com/groups/retrofest3/ Let's Play Gaming Expo in early August - https://www.letsplaygamingexpo.com/ QuakeCon in late July - https://www.quakecon.org/ Retropalooza in October - http://retropalooza.com/ We also have several awesome local arcades such as Free Play Arcade with 3 locations (Richardson, Arlington and Denton) - http://freeplayrichardson.com/ Quarter Lounge Arcade in Bedford (mid cities between Dallas & Fort Worth) - http://quarter-lounge.com/ Cidercade in Dallas - https://www.cidercade.com/ and one of the coolest gaming related places in this area the National Videogame Museum in Frisco, TX - http://www.nvmusa.org/ There are other attractions as mentioned above and more than I can put into a post but this area is already popular and hosts way more than I listed above like other cons, local gaming meet ups, tons of concerts, tourist attractions such as Deep Ellum and the West End and on and on. I'm sure the event you end up having will be in San Diego to save money but this area has 2 airports and is the hub of Southwest Airlines Dallas Love Field and American Airlines at DFW International.
lets throw it in for Columbus Ohio and pair it with Origins http://originsgamefair.com/ all the eq fan faire and whatever other gaming you can get into for a week *disclaimer* although i live around there myself i by no means would ever say this is a great place to travel for lol outside of Cedar Point, Kings Island, the Great Lakes Medievil Faire, and Origins...Ohio sucks
I suggest a hotel venue with a big conference hall/room CLOSE to where DBG Headquarters is... I want to be able to tour the DBG HQ and see the dev team, EQ server backend (server room?), buy memorabilia (how about a new EQ Fan Faire event tshirt?). Let's not ask DBG to spend too much on the event, so they can keep the monies to keep EQ running =)
i do think that EQ could make some money from the peeps who would by a EQ T shirt that could not attend this event live.
Am I the only one checking every few days to see if there has been a decision made so I can make vacation plans??
well beside a loc I want to hear about what is specify planned since is not a Full Fan Fair. will this be EQ only or all games ect.
Did I read this incorrectly or did you all miss the announcement because of all the TLP spam with the new servers? The fan Fair is going to be in San Francisco and it will be part of a larger event of other fanfares.. Quite expensive too .....some packages are already listed at $2,500
I could be wrong, but after briefly looking at the GDC thing, I don't think that's the same thing as the Fan Faire. It seems more like a multi-corporation/gaming Expo, I doubt other companies will be participating in a DBG/EQ Fan Faire.
