Does charisma play a role in the resistance or longevity of mezz spells.ty for help
2. Dandin Augur

Not anymore. It used to.

Charisma and summarily Heroic Charisma, do nothing other then factor in for what NPCS will sell to you for.

Statistics you want to focus on are
Intellegence
Agility
3. fransisco Augur

I think charisma's effect on sale prices also got nerfed long ago. That or its capped at like 120 now
4. Fanra https://everquest.fanra.info

This is what I have and I don't recall seeing it changed:

Charisma (CHA): Affects the amount you will be paid for goods by NPC merchants, and how much they will pay you, affects the saving throw on certain bard and enchanter spells (charms in particular).

Heroic Charisma: Improves reaction rolls with some NPCs and increases the amount of faction you gain or lose when faction is adjusted.

So, if this is still (or ever was) correct, Charisma reduces the chances of a mob to resist and save against mez.

As for sale prices, I believe the cap has always been, as you said, like 120 or such.
5. Gladare Augur

Heroic charisma does absolutely nothing as stated by devs.

Alright, Now that I cleared that up.

To the OP: You only need 120 charisma as an enchanter. ever. You will easily get overcap on this by gear that you find. So please dont stress yourself or focus on that stat,

Statistics Enchanters Should Focus on. (In order of importance)
Heroic Agility
HeroicIntellegence
Armor class
Spell Damage.
Hit points.
Mana
Heroic Stamana
.....

Everything else..

Alcohol tolerance
Begging
Charima

From the EverQuest patch notes:
Now, maybe this is wrong, but it is what SOE said in November 2007. It might have changed since then or been incorrect to begin with but...
8. Gladare Augur

I'm sure someone can find the source. Personally, I'm too lazy.

According to that forum post, Geoffrey Zatkin (GZ) who they say was the EQ Dev Spell guy at the time, confirmed that Charisma does have effects upon many things.

He did add that:
So, is this post wrong? Did they not speak to Geoffrey Zatkin? Or was he even the EQ Spell guy back then? Was he misquoted? Was all this changed later? Inquiring minds want to know.
10. Dandin Augur

it is wrong.

Gladare is correct.

Heroic Charisma, and any point of Charisma above 120 is utterly useless.

We don't usually get too far into specifics in favor of people discovering the usefulness themselves.
Unfortunately, with an ability as subtle as this one, Charisma's impact is hard to discover, and would likely continue on into the annals of EQ history as "useless."
That said -- On the Lull/Harmony series, which has recently been rewritten, there are two checks, as I imagine most everyone knows already.

Is the effect resisted?

If the effect is resisted, will the NPC get angry and tell its friends that it's time for a BardSnack(tm), or will it ignore what just happened?

Charisma is the sole determinant in the second check. It doesn't affect the first.
As for the in-game justification: If it likes you enough, it might find itself compelled to forgive you for trying to pull a fast one on it.

Hope that helps.

Quote:
Necromancers have really low charisma but get Fears and Charms which need it? Doesn't this seem strange?

Charisma has nothing to do with resist rates on Fear spells, and has only a minor help on the Charms. It's got a lot more to do with levels for both of those, so the Necromancers don't really have too many problems with that.
A clarification of the above is here:

"BOSTON PRODUCERS & DEVELOPERS, AUGUST 7, 2002"

Quote:
Is Charisma actually taken into account on mesmerizations and charms?

Yes it is. It varies on a number of spells to its actual usefulness but it does have a use. There are different levels of charisma for different classes. The system does take into account that an Enchanter should have a higher charisma than say a Necromancer. It’s unfair to expect masters of the undead to be entirely charismatic
12. Dandin Augur

Yes, Its wrong, because Charisma doesnt effect the things you are stating it does.

it DOES Inpact faction hits, as i agreed with you, like 4 posts above this...

It does NOT impact Mezz or Charm.

Which was the OP (Original posters) question.

Cha of 120 gives you max vendor pricing
Anything above that is just faction hit gains, and you can EASILY over max the return even with defiant gear.

TL:DR? It does NOT impact Mezz or Charm.
13. Fanra https://everquest.fanra.info

Sorry for annoying you Dandin with trying to get actual quotes from SOE people on what Charisma does. I guess I should just not bother to find out what they said because after all, what does SOE know about EQ?
14. Dandin Augur

Fanra, Seriously.

Your wrong. Just stop

Look. the original posters question was about Mezzing and charming. I answered it, and then you go and do this.

Look. I will restate. as clear. as humanly. possible. In case you missed it.
1. It does Not effect Mezz or Charm
2. Lull =/= Mezz or Charm
3. It only effects Vendor prices and faction hits
4. Heroic Charisma is useless
5. Read points 1 - 4 .. again
6. Enchanters and Bards have changed significantly SINCE the writing of that post you dug up from 2002.

First. I want to state. That While the Check is there for lull.
1. Heroic Charisma does NOT effect this
2. Even a Defiant geared ENC is going to pass the second check, Because Charisma is capped. Just like all stats. RAISING THIS CAP DOES NOT EFFECT ANYTHING.

the mob does 2 checks.
1. Do I resist this? if Yes, Agro.
2. If i resisted this. Check CHA. CHA @ 200? Forgive. CHA > 200? Kill
The RNG also plays a role in this somewhere too. Because Lull is not 100%. (otherwise known as pacify)

But the point your missing is, Stat caps are so easy to max, that even wearing the most easily obtainable gear, in game, he is gunna hit his CHA cap. Which is why

Everyone. Everywhere negates Charisma as a Stat.
15. Fanra https://everquest.fanra.info

No, I will not stop. Because this is how I learn. Only by posting what I think I know and what I can research can I get a response to find out if it is correct or not.

You can use your ALL CAPS and BIG FONT all you like, rant and rave, call me names, whatever.

You and several other people are claiming that the Devs said somewhere (but you can't find where) that Heroic Charisma does nothing. Why they bother to put in on items, I don't know then. Maybe it's a trick to get people to think Heroic stats have some purpose but they really do nothing and there is no point in even looking at them on gear.

I'm actually interested in finding out what Charisma and Heroic Charisma do, and I'm sorry, but I just don't take the word of anyone on this. I want a quote from a Dev (best option) or a raw spelldat dump or parse or other means of knowing that whatever is said has some factual, sourced, basis.

What it appears to me is that Charisma does have an effect on charming, but that the cap is so low that it can be ignored except at low levels. So your flat statement "It does Not effect Mezz or Charm" is wrong. It does, but only at very low levels.

The original poster did not ask if it mattered to his level 100 chanter in level 100 gear. He just asked if it has an effect. The best answer I can find is that it does, but only if your charisma is under 200. But I don't even know that for sure.

Right now all I know is that I know nothing. And your statements do not lead me to believe you know much more.

They have already told us what it does. and what it doesn't do.

Your trying to state that it does something, that they already said it doesn't do.

Hence, my annoyance.
I never once stated that SOE didn't know EQ. Please wash your hands before putting words in my mouth.

For one. I already answered the OP's question. Then you disagreed with me, quoting a post from 2002 about a completely unrelated and horribly outdated fact about Charisma that isn't worth mentioning at this stage of EQ..

Why?
17. Fanra https://everquest.fanra.info

I already said why, but we might have cross posted. I want to know what the facts are.

I'm sorry, but I don't see a "SOE Dev" next to your name. Therefore, I do not accept that you know everything about EQ. While there is a very good chance you are correct, you have no right to assume that everyone in the world knows that you are the world's greatest expert on EQ and should just bow down and accept anything you say.

I am done with this thread and will not bother with it any more. I will not read any further posts unless they are from SOE.

Your putting words in my mouth, again.

Heroic Charisma should do something, even if its one step above useless. It could just be made into a fun stat, that doesn't affect battles.

Like, if you have 500 or more heroic charisma, if you /kiss an NPC, it starts dancing.
