With PS4 Out, How Long Till They Stop Supporting PS3 Players?

Simple question really. It took a lot of time and resources to get the game up to snuff for the PS4, which is now officially out. With that being said, is there seperate code for the PS3 and PS4 systems, and if so how long till the Devs stop supporting the PS3 players?

A year? Two? Even if the code isn't seperate, will the devs focus primarily on issues that plague the PS4/PC version of the game, and stop worrying about trying to fix anything on the PS3?

I'm concerned that those of us who haven't been able to purchase a PS4, and are stuck on PS3 for a while will get shafted when it comes to fixes, updates, and even support on issues...

    Anyone else share these concerns?

They said they would merge the two devices into one server. Put your fears to rest, they aren't gonna get rid of the ps3

As long as it's economically viable.

Pretty sure they stopped spending anything but the bare minimum on ps3 support a while ago.

1 or 2 years, eventually the PS3's limitations will make them unable to make DLC w/o completely messing up PS3's so they would move on.....

I can't say for sure how long they will support the ps3 for DCUO, but as I recall they were STILL developing PS2 games several years AFTER the launch of the PS3. I would think the odds are that they will support it on the PS3 for at least a couple of years and maybe beyond if the PS3 population stays above a certain level.

Im giving it no longer than 2 years max

As of now they kinda have to considering probably 75% of their playerbase plays on PS3 and abandoning it all together off the bat would be a mistake...But in a year or 2 after PS4 has been out for a while and likely seen a slight drop in price, thats when PS3 will be dropped

They have stated multiple times that they are severely limited by what the PS3 can do, so with a new system out and the ability to expand what they can do in the game, there would be no reason to keep PS3 running after that

53 days. More or less. ;) jk

We can expect in a year or two for DCUO to give up on the PS3.

They already mentioned how they can add only like 3 more powers to the game or something like that. So once War of Light part 01 comes out..... there will only be room for 2 more powers.

Heck odds are that in 2 years Sony will give up supporting on the PS3.

We will have to wait and see.

Game development can take a few years.

So odds are those games being developed after the launch of the PS3 had started being developed sometimes before the PS3 launch.

Also from what I understand.... Sony had a few billions PS2 in their warehouses left to sell when the PS3 came out. So they still needed people to buy those PS2s even though the PS3 was available.

One of the reason I was told at the time why PS3 was not backward compatible with PS2 games.

Odds are that they may have learned their lesson and may not have a billion PS3 left of their shelves to sell now that the PS4 is here??

Guess we will have to wait and see.

I think the support may be gone out the window already for PS3 now that PS4 is out. If the PS4 crowd doesn't have the issues and problems that we do, they will "encourage" us to go out and get a PS4 by not fixing the issues on the PS3.

Scarry tactics, but economically it's logical.

I'd love to see a green name on this. MEEPS?

    Hopefully not long after.

The hardware is dated and clearly can't cope with where the developers want to take the game. Their creativity is already been limited to what the PS3 is capable of. Not to mention all the time being wasted fixing problems that are exclusive to the PS3 version.

The sooner the better, as far as I'm concerned. Or as soon as is financially viable. I'd personally pull the plug in January 2015. 13 months notice is more than enough time to save up for a PS4.

SOE will continue to support the ps3 until the ps3 users become the minority.

This 100% as of now they are trying to grab new players on the ps4 but I think the only dcuo ps4 players will be those that originated from the ps3.....they have so many other games n new mmo's to compete with so if they continues the quality of product on the ps3 they won't last IMO

This is a blatant assuption on your part. You have no idea of the economic feasability of others to purchase said system in 13 months. Individuals could be between jobs, have medical bills, children, student loans, or massive loads of debt just to name a few things that may prevent them from expending money on toys.

Well at launch.... PS4 players will not have much choice.

If they want to play a MMO... DCUO is pretty much their only option. Heck.... is it the only F2P game they have at launch?? Or is there others that I can't recall right now???

Heck in the coming soon section... there are maybe 20 games at most. So PS4 players will not have much in terms of options early on.

So if DCUO do not get new players now... they never will.

But you might be correct once more games and more MMOs get added into the mix.

Guess we will have to wait and see.

Personally, I am not interested in getting a PS4. I have about 200 PS3 games and PS4 is not backward compatible. I am also not interested in getting PlayStation Plus, which is required to play some online games. "Saving up" is not a problem.

Eventually, Sony will cease to create new games for the PS3, as is dictated by history and economics. Then I will have to decide whether to stop playing altogether, change systems, or acquire a PS4. Until then I CHOOSE to remain on the PS3.

Additionally, the first distribution of a new system usually oftentimes leads to the discovery of some issues with equipment or software, so I never buy the first system off the truck, no matter how awesomely it is marketed.
