I'm currently working on a little conceptual project of making the best possible Superhero MMO, from the guy with too many ideas.

Currently, I'm working on Business models, as a first thing to get out of the way before I get to the juice of the concept.

Unlike Other MMO concepts, however, I'm asking for community feedback on several aspects, such as MMOs I'm not aware of, concepts that interest you, or the like. I'm interested to see what you guys have in mind.

However, if you need a good idea as to what feedback I need, here's an except from the Introduction

Sounds like an intriguing idea, will be curious to see how it plays out.

Business model is a really important thing to keep an eye on. Looking at freemium, if I remember correctly most games will end up with 90% of accounts not spending a penny, an even lower proportion then become regular spenders. Keep that in mind.

Being open and consistent tends to work out for the best. If the players are happy they spend more. This is almost impossible on a licensed project, but as this isn't the case here you can be a lot more flexible. Keep the players in the loop and don't do any dramatic U-turns on your revenue streams once you have them hooked and they will follow. Good customer service and feeling that players are involved is crucial to building a good reputation, you are getting some big ticks on this before you've even started just for doing this interactive survey right here.

Another thing to keep in mind are the whales. They can be a huge revenue source, but these are a small proportion of your player base. Have something for them to keep chipping away with that doesn't impact on anyone else, something more decorative or purely aesthetic regularly added perhaps? If it is going to have a stat advantage make sure there's a way for your free players to get a hold of it, even if there is a grind. The whales will come of their own accord, be careful not to try and push your regular spenders into this otherwise you'll put them off.

As a final note, although this ties into later parts more but should be noted here for completion, be careful to make sure the game's content is accessible. You want to keep content coming out that appeals to both brand new players and to end game players, especially to keep marketing interest. The Lord of the Rings Online came up with an interesting "skirmish" system where you could balance your instance to whatever difficulty the player wished, you could have a low leveled solo experience then run the exact same content as a full blown raid at end game (for vastly better rewards of course). I always felt this idea could be expanded on considerably and may be a way to keep new players coming in and accessing new content without feeling bogged down by other stuff as well.
