It's hard to start PvPing in 77 gear when I just keep going up against other players that are in 83-84. It feels lopsided and makes it extremely hard to progress.
Well, it's tough now since everyone has the best gear since the re-boot. But, it costs less to buy the lower tiered gear so it takes fewer matches to buy it all. Still, I agree - a system that was set up to match similarly geared opponents as opposed to the 'how often you win' delta, it would probably be a better overall experience for everyone. As an aside, what is the top PVP CR rating right now? I have full Punchline, the trinket, two rings, the mask, and the neck (all with V mods) and am only CR 83 (while the gear itself is all 84). What gives?
The top is 84. My suggestion would be to look over every single piece of gear just to see if you missed buying one. I had to do the same thing.
Yeah, I have the trinket. Some of the items I got as drops and didn't necessarily buy them, but they're all CR 84 purple items. Is it a weapon? I think I have one of those too, but will have to double check...
The matchmaking system is pretty lame honestly. Basically upon entering PVP you're set at a 5/10. As you win you move up, lose you move down. But those NEW are considered middle of the road.... Of course people can understand the issue with that. A new player most likely isn't going to be of avg skill, they will likely be of much lower skill. Then you have the issue of pvp CR not being a factor at all. So me bieng someone who PUGs almost exclusively means that while my gear is all maxed out, I do lose. Keeping me in a lower ranking than I probably should be. So where i shouldn't be matching up against people in lower gear, I very well may because my ranking isn't as high as it probably should be. THEN on top of all that, it's really a non issue right now. As queues are taking long enough that they are ignoring the matchmaking system and just grabbing anyone so that your 10 min wait doesn't go any longer. So not only is the matchmaking system really not helping, due to the low population queueing it doesn't matter at all anyways . So best advice I can give.... learn to get good fast... LOL, sorry wish I could help but really it's a messed up situation right now.
Because if the matchmaking system were to put you in a match only against people having your pvp combat rating you would wait more than a while, especially if you are new to pvp. As Joykiller said, basically everyone has the best gear and only a part of this game's players actually queue for arenas. Another reason is that gear doesn't matter that much in pvp, a good pvper in unmodded archangel gear can easily take on a bad player in aeronaut or logistic officer gear... i have seen people all purpled out (gearwise) being a constant source of immunity in arenas.
I suppose you could tier for the 1v1 and 2v2 arenas but IMO it's just not practical for the larger arenas as the queues would take too long for the lower CR players to find a reasonable group.
