Why Do Solo Challenges Have CR Requirements?

When I left DCUO Sons of Trigon had been released. I decided to take a look again, and see where things are standing now, and maybe some of the new DLC might interest me, except I'll probably not see much of any of it. My characters are right around CR 95 or so. T6 Solo Challenges require CR 99. I'm trying to work out the sense of this, and I just can't.

In Duos and Alerts and Raids, sure I can see a restriction being in place, because your gameplay has an effect on another players. CR Restrictions there? Good idea.

However, if I want to go into a Solo Challenge for an episode of content I'm paying for, then that should be nobody's business but my own. If I get stomped, then I will keep testing myself against it, you know, like some kind of challenge that I could attempt on my own. A sort of "Solo Challenge", if you will.

Yeah let a cr 90 do Oa under siege. Sounds legit.

Im just gonna say if there was no cr restriction that would mean a CR30 can do that solo instance and go from T1 to T6

The cr99 solo is actually a t6 solo which having a cr99 requirement is already very generous. You are cr95, you can easily use nexus paradox assault and battery to skyrocket cr. Paradox and nexus can be soloed with a high cr ( except nexus sentinels which require 2 people to kill together) Back when that t6 solo launched people were around cr103 and were 106 at the end of the dlc. A 95cr trying to justify a mid t5 being allowed in a t6 solo at the reason for progression is stupid. Use the raids and alerts and then you will easily reach the low cr requirements.

it is probably to do with the fact that those instances drop gear which can inflate your Combat Rating. Level 90 gear I believe is what drops in there. Which is T5's best gear. Meaning if you could enter the content at Level 30, you could skip 5 entire tiers by playing only those 2 Solos which would be just as difficult at level 30 as they would be at T6.

For non-Legends it's the difficulty, obviously, as was said before already.

For the Iconic anomalies, which's difficulty only depends on practice and skill, not gear or SP, I guess it's because of the Drops, which you get there.
I don't think they want a fresh lvl30-char to run Circe's Trial and get CR90-gear.

A Change, which I think would be justified, is to remove the prestige-restriction from iconic anomalies, since getting higher CR does not make them easier, because our gear does not matter in there.

You clearly don't seem to understand this, which is weird since you aren't really a new player, everything has tiers, what you want to do was never possible even before the minimum, you can't do a T6 solo while being in T5, don't know were you got the idea that you could. Get to T6 first and then do the solo, btw those are Legends solos, the requirement is only because it gives higher gear, not because it's challenging to your character at that level, you can even take the gear off before doing them so it doesn't get damaged.

In the solos it's 89, duos are the ones that drop lvl 90, then 91 in the alert and 92 in the vendor.

Hal will have to start handing mops to all the Black Lanterns to clean up the chunks of would-be content skippers...

No reason to complain here OP you can do 1-30 in 1 day and fresh 30 to T7 in 4 days total or 3 days after hitting 30. If you are having trouble reaching the end of a tier be sure to do your raids and get loot drops there, do 4 mans, duos, then solo's. If you are still not 100cr after all that, drop some marks to buy the top T5 pieces to boost CR. Yesterday I made "Mrs Diddles" and hit 30 on her, no replays and I'll be T7 in 2 more days.

Edit: sorry using android and it screw my paragraph all kinds of up. Fixed now.

First, to the people that were offering suggestions on how I could breeze though things by just joining a league or running raids. I appreciate the input, but that's not what I'm asking. I don't particularly care for the current T5 content available to me. It was boring, needlessly repetitive, and was a portion of the reason I left in the first place (Most of it was how they completely wrecked PVP back then, but still).

You're one of the few names I still recognize from back when I was playing. Anyway, for non legends the difficulty thing is unjustified, as again, for a solo challenge, it's nobody's business but my own how hard I like things to be, and it wouldn't be causing any problems for any other players.

For the Legends PVE, I can see your point, although, in that case if there has to be a restriction it should be way more lax than it is to make it easier for people to move up through previous content, rather than act as a garden wall. You should be able to start iconic solo challenges of your next tier, before you're even midway through your current tier.

To put my point out as plainly as I can: I do not think that having to play through content you do not like, in order to grind marks for a suit you'll wear for 10 whole minutes just to unlock the gate to get into solo content that you'd like to try out and isn't even that far in front of you to be either fun or reasonable. If that's unacceptable, then it's your choice and all, but is kind of a deal breaker for me, considering that I'd be needing to do something I don't find fun not once, but six times, for my alts.

As ppl have said, it is that way for propper gear progression, and it wont be changing bbecause if they lower the requirement then you can skip to much content. Skipping content takes away revenue as you no longer need to purchase as many episodes.

And lets be honest. If there is not a single thing in T5 that you enjoy. A tier that most ppl say was the best content we recieved. Then why do you want to continue playing a game that you do not like? T6 and T7 is basicly more of the same stuff as T5 which you are saying you did not like. No one is forcing you to play the game, so you should either choose to play it as it was intended and stop complaining or decide you are done with the game and again, stop complaining.

How's that going forward the Solos and other contents are almost impossible to accomplish when you enter the minimum cr recommended! (especially if it is not dps, or a strong dps).
I wonder entering cr lower than recommended ...
  14. GJGBlackDragon Dedicated Player

Remember to consider the Iconic solos. If a player at level 30 CR 30 got access to the Wonder Woman and Circe iconic solos, they'll skip directly to T6 with the loot drops without having to do a single Raid, Alert, Duo or any other challenge prior to T6 since the Iconic solo got it's difficulty and stats already in place.

True! But these solos are so boring that I just picked up the feats and even forgot that there were ...:p:D

Aren't you just adorable up there on your overly defensive high horse? Yes, you are. I came back to "continue playing a game that I do not like" because I came back to see if the game I liked had crept back towards once again being the game I liked. It's not unreasonable to be interested in coming back after a couple years to see how things have changed, and maybe hopefully changed for the better. Then there's the issue of all content that was released in the meantime, that might be fun to check out.

The only thing I find somewhat sad, is just your last sentence:
It's like you don't even recognize that the third option "Try to help make things better for everyone." even exists. I don't know how I could stand it, if I were so similarly limited.

Why not open challenges up to all L30s (regardless of CR), and...

    1. Have the gear CR locked, rather than the challenge. Meaning you have to be at least cr43 to equip T2 items and cr131 for T7.4 etc. The only thing I can see happening with this option is your inventory gets filled with gear that mocks your inablitiy to equip it.

    2. Scale the drops so you get tier appropriate gear regardless of the level of the instance? If you chose to attempt a T5 instance while you were T2, you get T2 gear.

You probably would have been past T5 if you actually played the game instead of wasting your time making this thread. Increase your CR by 4 points or make a thread about how upset you are?

It's the same reason all the CR requirements exist: to keep people from jumping too far ahead in CR too fast. How many people are participating isn't relevant.

(Note this system isn't terribly limiting; I've seen people go from Brainiac's ship to CR 151 in three days. )
