When a studio no longer has the will to release a new powerset, what did we players do?

Go back and read the GameFaq forums where players were having issues transferring their created toons to the downloaded versions forcing them to stick with the disc. Some were even having to go in and take steps such has deleting game data files. AI appears not to be your friend in this instance.

Naw, the game ran a beta for both PC and PS3, and it was released at the same time for both, January 11, 2011. I don't understand your take on PS store....this game was originally on disc like every other game back then. I still have my PS3 and DCUO disc btw. It also came with a free 30 day membership because originally it was only a sub to play game. Later on it became free to play but had nothing to do with what level your character was. Then, there were two different server merges, the first was merging PVP servers and PVE servers (I started on Blood Will Run PVP only server) then we had a merge with PC and PS. Maybe its then, as a PC person, you thought this game was made available to PS. You originally claimed this was a PC only game for darn near a year, then switched to saying its when it was available for the PS network....Im not sure you even know what you're talking about at all. If you can't accurately recall the history of this game, I don't think you're a reliable source for any information.

As to aging out, thats just not true at all. There are many players in my age group, 40+, that still play this game. In fact, I had a leaguemate who still plays and he's 78 years old! This game is free to play, free to download, and Im sure new players try this game all of the time. If the DC brand grows more successful, I can see even more people downloading it as well. If they stay or not isnt so much about age, its about being 14 years behind and the microtransactions tied to artifacts and allies that will tend to push them away.

I misspoke, I meant first and only mmo on ps3 (at that time), not console in general.

There is a difference between those who are in their mid 20s early 30s right now who are building careers and nurturing families when they were easily in their teens when the game released to the ones who are at or reaching retirement age currently. That is what I am alluding to in reference to aging out. Those who are in their 40s, 50s, and beyond are more or less empty nesters who have more time now...which is likely why you see more of them playing....I happen to be one of them.

To keep that cycle going to mitigate losses of those of us who are much older die out..and those who age out for grown up things, the game needs to circle back to a younger generation...or the game will die. As far as the other portion regarding dates or whatever....that has already been addressed. See above.

Life happens, and its all about priorities. None of what you said automatically rules out those players don't still play once in a while, or come back to the game later. I took a year break from the game at one point, and came back. And again, young people today do download this game, because it is free....and its the only superhero mmo on PS. Its the hidden expenses, dated graphics, and 14 years worth of grinding that will tend to make them not pursue it for a long period of time.

To your edit....yes above where you were proven wrong over and over. You originally stated this game was released as a PC only game, wrong. You then tried to switch it to a disc versus download, which too was wrong. I do recall issues surrounding the disc version switching to the download version, but that doesnt at all mean this game wasn't released on PS3 at launch. And to the disc vs download, I won't pretend to know if the download was available from the start, because I bought the disc, and ran that the entire time until the PS4 released. In fact I still buy discs for PS5 now, Im not a fan of digital downloads, I prefer having a disc to share with friends/family and having resale value.

I didn't say those players don't come back...nor didn't say that the game doesn't attract younger players in total. What I am saying is that we all play in our own shell of communities that exists in a whole.

Not every shell community is going to have the same number of players, nor have the same number of players who quit and come back either. We can't also pretend that the excuses for the players who aren't returning are simply because of whatever expense..lack of graphics etc...is wholly the reason either, which is a fallacious argument without at least acknowledging that life happens.

I also find it hard to believe that a reduced community of players are footing the expense of other games..So, either the community is larger than the "Game is Dying" portion of the community would like to claim is happening, or that the community is made up of wealthy players who are spending enough for new management, new content, iconics, new artifacts, ally updates...plus producing enough cash flow for those other games. I'll let you decide which is occurring and makes more sense.

Which I cleared up, but for some reason you want to continue? Unsure why...but..ok.

Yep, I had a copy of the disc, as part of my collection of console games and consoles, before I got rid of most of my collection.

Aaaaand, I just realized when I looked at my game shelf, I still have it! :)

When I first installed DCUO (in 2013), I used the disc, but the game installed via download from PSN, and I was told I would not need to use the disc. In fact, the only time I ever actually put the disc in my PS3 was to install the game (some time later, the blu-ray drive failed, so I couldn't play disc-based games anymore).

  9. Multiverse What time is it? Game time.

People keep on telling you that you are wrong....and still you insist.
If you don't want to admit to being wrong... that is fine.
But at least stop the false information.

Untill you post a Link to your claims.....
I will trust my friendly friend the EEViLLL Ai over what you claim. ;) ;)

Does it really matter how the game started? Threads derailed now...

You stop being entitled and decide if the game is still worth your time and/or money.
No gaming company ever should listen to the community, since any game community doesn't even know what it want.
They have a product you consume, you either enjoy it or not. If you don't, you stop consuming that product, simple as.
You don't have a stake in the company, you don't get to tell them what you want from them, you're a consumer, you don't get to tell them what you want or when you want it. Do you go to your local coffee place and tell them to start making a certain coffee or tea IRL else you don't go there anymore? No, you move on to a shop that sells your product, the exact same goes for games or other media you consume...
"Is it still worth staying on a game that no longer has the will to create content expected by the community?"
Is such a entitled and disgusted way of phrasing this.

And this is the reason why media and AI are going to destroy the world. AI is the enemy within. My previous post was a straight copy and paste that is even correcting some of the previous post. Yet here you are still insisting to tell me I am wrong. Why should I have to post a website address, when it isn't my burden to prove to you anything? But, keep trusting AI to do all the research for you while still saying I am wrong. I'm ok with it.

I never met so many in a single group that is incapable of moving on as if they have a lifetime of vendettas they have to inflict on others inside a forum dedicated to gaming.

that’s the best idea for a game to lose its community!

That's so strange... considering the April Producer's Letter mentioned this:

"That said, we wanted to take a moment to highlight something special – our growing engagement with the community. A thriving game owes much to its players, and we’re excited to formally introduce Voltera, our new Community Manager for DC Universe Online!"

They absolutely listen to us and take feedback. Most of the recent changes have been done because of our concerns. Cross faction grouping/leagues, custom queue, even the controversial clamp... it's all been recent topics of discussion and they've made changes to them. I can't imagine why they've focused on that...

It's insanely ignorant to suggest they don't listen to us and to not voice an opinion. We can, and absolutely should, give feedback. It's up to them to decide if it's worth it to invest resources in or not. Obviously, some things are easier than others to implement. This may or may not be one of them depending on the recent team change. No one thought we'd ever get new powers, and yet here they are... rolling out Iconics almost monthly.

Part of the problem is that there are those who think the devs taking in feedback and acting on it means "the devs should do exactly what I say they should do." No middle ground or understanding that the devs have their own plans, agendas or mandates they may have to follow first.

We have a say, but our say is not the be-all, end-all voice that some think we have. We are A voice in the game, not THE voice, despite how it may be wished otherwise.

...and now I've used "voice" enough times in a row that I started wondering if I was spelling it right. LOL

I agree, that's why I essentially said it's up to them to decide if it's a reasonable change/addition to the game.

The people that tend to speak for the devs, or essentially tell people not to give feedback at all, are just as bad... if not worse.

Im just waiting for the power balance/tuning or whatever they announced in the producer letter. If it is not substantial enough, ill just stay away from the game and not return.

The gameplay loop has been the same for a literal decade. No innovation in the slightest to divert players from the "Do weeklies, do dailies, stop".

Give players the chance to just run survival modes, actual hard content, non rehashed content, content that provides no more meaningful items anymore. Hell, we cant even farm XP effectively as its time gated, rng dependent and given to you by doing 1 simple action in the game (killing a enemy or gathering a node).

The MMORPGs like TESO, GW or even Final Fantasy totally prove you wrong, it is precisely the games that listen to their community that win in success!

DCUO has ignored this for a long time and now we see all those who happened to DCUO today, it finally seems to start doing it, only now (finally by false pretence, I would say), but it’s too late now, the harm was done by daybreak, now, they are hammering the remaining players as if it was up to them to pay the settled pots..
