When a studio no longer has the will to release a new powerset, what did we players do?

Is it still worth staying on a game that no longer has the will to create content expected by the community? do we still have to give money to that? money not reinvested in DC Universe Online...

Do we still have to give money to that? money finally not reinvested in DC Universe Online...

and yes sorry, but artifacts, capsulites or DLC or some functions are not a major content investment, the game needs major content!

Don’t make me believe that with artifacts, capsules, aggressive promotions are not enough to finance a new power, whereas at the time when artifacts and capsules did not yet exist, we still had DLC (with a period where we had 1 DLC per month), new powerset and investment on DCUO.

It’s also not like asking to have a new powerset per year, the game needs new powersets, with a suitable release rate, 4 or 5 years maybe (this is an estimate, it’s not a required time!) because it is currently becoming too boring, we’re spinning too much in circles, now!

Moreover, what is now also needed are no longer artifacts or abilities obtained in campaigns, but new abilities with existing powers!!!

Most of the reasons why we haven't gotten new power sets is because they weren't selling and take a lot of resources to produce. So cost outweighed the return. It has happened a few times over the years with other things, like movement skins.

With that said, it is your choice on if you feel worth sticking around. They have done things recently that contradict what previous development teams said were not possible. Heck, they even mentioned in a recent Producer Letter they will be looking at some power sets. So, who knows. There is no promises or guarantees when it comes to new power sets, but who knows if anything is off the table now. We don't get a lot of communication anymore, so again, your choice.

It seems I recall this has been addressed once. The feedback to us was the amount of investment in time, money, personnel, etc. did not justify making additional powersets because the player base did not actively purchase the new powersets they had previously crafted. Basically, if they (Daybreak, Dimensional Ink, Enad Global 7 AB) do not believe investing in new powersets will produce the kind of ROI they are looking for, they just aren’t going to do it.

Having said that, they could take an existing power set like the “Light” power set and change the colors of it providing different options without the need to invest in all new programming for new power sets.

I too would like a new power set, but if I don’t get one, that is not a game breaker for me, pun intended. I’m keeping my eye on far more important things they might change or take away before my claws come out.

While new powersets would be cool, I fail to see no new powersets is a bigger lack of 'content' than the fact we are getting less DLCs per year and the ones we do get are comprised of 1/2 'old' rehashed instances.

What good is a cool new powerset if you only have mediocre instances to run them in? Oh, yeah...we'll have LOTS of 'events' to run them in, but at 2 DLC a year...that will get old fast.

To answer the question in the title bluntly: deal with it. The company is more than likely going to do what's best for the company first, and if it isn't worth the cost and time/manpower expenditure needed to make new powersets then it's probably not going to happen. No matter how many different threads people try to make on the subject.

    As for this...

I don't see that being received well, unfortunately. People bent themselves out of shape when they simply thought or assumed new power sets were going to just be reskins back in the day (Rage, Munitions, Atomic, and Celestial all had that happen). I just can't imagine a straight-up, unabashed reskin of an existing power would be accepted without significant complaints.

it’s funny to read that when, you regularly ask "what power are the best for playing role X?" it answers you Rage for the tank everyone or almost plays rage, in heal told you that everyone played it so that’s the easy argument to say "we don’t want to take over again because we want to keep the money for ourselves"...

it’s a bit like if we were told we’re fed up with working lol

but in this case, why did you actually release the game?...

Meta does not mean money. I have no idea if there are any functioning census websites, but if you actually get to use one, look up the population based on powers. You would be surprised, even at end game, the brunt of them would be the F2P powers. By a disproportionate number at that. This is the numbers they see. Sure, flavor of the month can sell a respec token or two, but the end of the day, it wasn't making enough to cover the costs of the development.

Plus, you also have to look at the successful vs not so successful ones. Electric? Successful! Celestial? Not so much. Rage? Successful! Atomic? Not so much. Not saying any of these powers are bad or if it's someone's favorite, but there is no guarantee to the stockholders if the next powerset will make a lot of money or just be a niche favorite pick for a player.

"A studio" isn't an individual person, and isn't subject to faults of an individual's willpower or motivation. Anything they refuse to produce is a result of planning and approval, not "will."

Likewise, it's not their responsibility to produce anything and everything players or the community expect. I expect tournaments that reward players with $200 USD, just like Fortnite, but that's never going to happen. Believe it or not, it's not the world's responsibility to adapt to your expectations, it's your responsibility to adjust your expectations based on the real world.

Objectively false, based on a misunderstood statement made in 2021. Every live service game receives reinvestment of funds, because that's what operating costs are.

A DLC isn't major content investment? Ok, well thanks for letting us know your opinions don't align with objective reality this early on in your broken up wall of text.

With that same logic, new powersets are just replaying the same game with a new power bar rotation, and aren't major content either.

A lot of your arguments are invalidated by looking at an EG7 financial report. Their monetization efforts haven't suddenly given Daybreak a huge influx of money - Daybreak's revenue has stayed fairly flat since the beginning of the year. Increased revenue options doesn't mean increased revenue.

Additionally, citing the mini-DLCs that had virtually no content and in many cases shared maps with other mini-DLCs means nothing. And believe it or not, they weren't getting any major "reinvestments" at that time either, they were still operating on a budget that wasn't influenced by profit margin or sales.

In closing, you're idolizing a time when the game was so unsustainable and poorly managed, SOE as a whole was sold off because it wasn't profitable enough for Sony to keep it, and each of those "1 DLC per month" was effectively 2-3 instances, and the majority with zero open world content whatsoever. And you're trying to use that as claims of investment into the game, after you started your entire post by saying 'DLCs are not a major content investment.'

Now that you know why your entire argument is flawed(and quite contradictory), work on coming up with better justification. If you do well, you just might convince someone that actually has decision-making power related to this game. But financial spreadsheets have infinitely better argument for the future of a business than a random gamer does.

For someone like yourself, the best option is just moving on. You won't get what you want out of a game that you're burnt out on and completely bored of.

Not only that but they are going to release a power set that you don't agree with and then at that point what's the point.

Do you think what they are doing at the moment is good for the company? From a rational perspective, i believe that what they're currently doing is in no way good for the company.

They're losing players and this brings them even more diminishing returns, which also explains why there are so many pay-to-win aspects in the game.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter how much pay to win you'll pump up into your product, this won't bring you profits... even tho this will even work as a nail in the coffin, because pay-to-win has always been pushing players away.

Unfortunately, this is what happens when the management is shaken, this is what happens when panic breaks out in the company, because that's what happens even though no one talks about it.

They know they've failed in many aspects and that this is the end, their plan has failed.. they won't get back the millions they've lost by adding more and more pay-to-win.

People keep posting asking for new power/stats clamp removal or Dcuo 2 every single time they announce something.
Of course, those people get tired and mad, since instead of just having fun and enjoying stuff, they get angry at every single post because their expectations are too high or almost improbable.

There is no pay to win if everyone is stuck at the same point until the next episode, no matter if you put cash in or not.
The free player gets a stabilizer, and you have a second-chance vendor, so the capsule argument is pointless.
People mostly pay to grind less, not sure how getting a higher score point in a stats-clamped game is possibly a pay to win.
Again, all you get to be with max artifact/max allay max skill point is just a higher score on board, nothing more, no matter if they achieve stuff more easily, or they have more cash than you do in the game. Everyone is stuck at the same point until the next episode.
People literally pay to play less. That's it.

Power for what? There’s no He-Man sword involved here.

Who has more power: General Mills or Cheerios?

Yea, they had to get another team to work on powers. It could be that they had to pay another team to help and that the devs of the game don't exactly work in that field, or it is a lot of work for some that can take on the work but it's not in their expertise.
There were two of the whole team that worked in pvp while others helped on what they can.
Probably what would make it easier is now with Switch 2. Is improvements on the powers work on visuals, if that's something's players would like to see.
Doctor Fate Legends AOE Circle Judgement visual is really nice.
Maybe improvements on visuals qol, being that players having to turn down the effects to be able to see better.
Or customizable effects options, where can adjust effects quality and effects fade individually.
Would require a new Window UI, could add it to Effects tab in options.

Players should collaborate by sharing ideas that could offer alternatives to what we’ve been asking for, but the studio currently cannot deliver.
Since developing a brand-new powerset seems to be out of reach right now, an alternative could be to implement iconic abilities from the different heroes and villains we already see in Legends PvP, as well as from PvE bosses. This shouldn’t be too difficult, since these abilities already exist in the game — it would mostly be about adjusting and calibrating them so players could acquire and use them.

Considering the lack of fresh instance development, the repeated use of the same environments for alerts and raids, and the trend of "new" content being recycled from older material, this would be a smart step forward. It would bring a sense of innovation to a game that desperately needs it, while leveraging assets that are already available but not yet accessible to the player base.
