DC is absolutely not strict about licensing. There are so many absolute garbage items on the market made by companies nobody has ever heard of with DC character logos etc slapped on them.

If you think Warner Bros, who is the actual shot caller here, is going to pull a disney over loot boxes, you're going to be disappointed.

By the way, the game's rep is a successful 7 year old console MMO that is still making a profit.

That's not me blowing smoke up anybody's ..... those are just hard facts.

Licensing is like printing money for DC and WB. There's no downside for them. Unless the product is dangerous or has an actual bad rep, and not just one being pushed about the forums, it's gonna get the license, simple as that.

It amazes me how people always are so quick to believe "he said she said" garbage passed along by others that barely know anything about the original topic rather then going directly to the main source. Even if you couldn't find where Mepps said the license extends well beyond 2018, he makes numerous references to the longevity of certain things in game extending for "years to come," or "will be updated over time." Or "in the distant future." He wouldn't make those statements if there was a worry that the game would shut down next year.

It's amazing what you can learn when you just peak your head in and take a look at the staff post tracker every now and then instead of believing everything the YouTube crowd says.

There is no such company. If at the end of a fiscal year the numbers are red, no company will pay their own backs because the consumers loved them.

For dcuo i think they are strict unless they turned over a new leaf. How long did it take for them to release a green aura because of "lore" reasons. There were even some episode ideas that people would suggest on discord that the devs said they did have ideas but could not go through with it.

Also i wouldn't say successfully running for 7 years. Running for 7 years for sure, but successful is false too. I really dont know anyone that would consider end of 2014-2017 midway as a successful time for dc. If so they worry me as much as people who have blind hatred for the game.

Like EA for example? Like Bioware does with it's SWTOR community?

I agree with you that there are some things that if implemented would be super awesome. But as long as we don't know any intern structures and stuff from Daybreak we probably can't judge. We don't know why some things aren't implemented if a majority of the (forum) community wants them. And I am sure it's not always about money they make.

We tend to see only the 10% bad things and not the 90% nice things. I really enjoyed the episodes of the last two years gameplay wise. I didn't like the costs of gear. When I look back the first thing I remember is always the marks I had to grind. There were seasonals, we got craftable OP items, new feats, some of them were just gifted to us. We had a few sales, they showed us that they actually can implement new mechanics and not only rehash old ones. It's not all that bad or we wouldn't still play it :)

Remind us why you play again? It seems to me that you have a very dark view on the game and it's development. I am not sure I understand why anyone who detests multiple aspects of a game would still play it oO

But to be honest: No company needs to be transparent with what they are doing and why they are (not) doing things. Usually when a company announces a new "thing" it's never too early or late.

Success in business is demonstrated by the bottom line. The game has made a profit for 7 years in a genre market of video games that see many games fail in the first two, and did it on a platform that's not that friendly to mmos in the first place.

No matter how you feel about the game's condition between 2014 - 2017, it is a success in business terms, which is all Warner Bros. cares about. If you honestly think the licenser cares about how players on the forums felt about the game for that time span, you're kidding yourself.

Actually the green aura was a licensing issue. They didn't have permission from DC to use it. Obviously it was lifted. Had nothing to do with lore.

Whaaa!? That counted as licensing issues?

I knew we had different aura but the green which became a ordeal when someone asked. I wouldn't think a green aura counted as a license since we already had light powers out which is why i said lore.

What, like EA or the company that runs destiny 2?

Unless some super rich dude that wants to make no money comes along, that's not gonna happen.

Yes, but remember we were never green lanterns. They did a fancy dance around some of the rules. Like not actually having a ring, just a lite finger.

None of us really know the ins and outs, but I will say they made this aura happen. One of the fights it seemed they did for us.

There's a big difference between the two things. If their license were up and they couldn't renew, they would have to shut down. Plain and simple. Delivering on "promised" goods...priorities shift, and unexpected roadblocks pop up. They don't communicate everything with us because that is how companies generally operate. On the other hand, Water and 4th color option were announced, and they came eventually. Take that as you will...
  15. Wiccan026 Loyal Player

To back you up I don't think they announced water would be in 2016 (and also if they did, well everyone just remember Spytle was with the company when water was announced sooo things change) nor do I recall a date given for the fourth color option.

The devs always will have to keep things until their ready, that's true for most games if not all. The only thing people can truly argue though is if they don't like their "treatment" of those in charge or how things are handled and if you don't, well wouldn't it be easier to just leave than give money to something that you're not really into.

Companies that buy games generally dont care about the customers at all. They are in the business of making money. If they are looking to buy a game then they are looking at how they can make the maximum profit out of it. If that means spamming microtransactions until the game dies they dont care because they filled their pockets.

Though some people may not think we have it good, let the game sell and the forum will be full of threads remembering when you only had to pay for stabilizers and replay badges.

Show me one game company that is trying to make money and not being a *****? We have it good compared to other games...-cough EA....-cough Bungie...

Is this thread seriously still going? Why do players still post on here and still play anything DCUO if they want this game to die so much?

Threads like these just make me want to stop visiting the forums sometimes just due to the sheer silliness involved. You know well enough that Daybreak isn't gonna hand over a valuable asset like DCUO to another company, you also know well that they aren't going to pubilcly reveal anything regarding the DCUO license, we are players; we shouldn't care about that information, and we certainly aren't entitled to that information.

The amount of asinine post and self entitlement in this thread just boggles my mind.

Actually there is a list, but im curious why is everyone using EA and Activision as an example? There are other companies that will cancel out your argument you know.

You do realize SOE and Daybreak are the same company right? The only thing that changed was the name...but and you can't reason with someone like me? BAHAHAhAHA you are funny
