Whats Going wrong in DCUO [from a player of 4+ years]

  1. BumblingB I got better.

Yeah, tanks in the vanilla 4man content of OC were non existant. It was because you got a huge buff to your own stats to compensate for lack of tank. With the way one shots were happening even in that content, people opted to run that way. My league would run with a tank, because we had several tank only members, who are now gone.

I also agree, I really wish players would stop thinking OC was a God send and the epitome of challenge. Challenge was FOS2 or T2 Inner. OC was spike damage and adds. Which is interesting that the OP mentioned that as being a down point of current content. I agree with a lot of what Proxy said, but I will never agree that OC was EVER good for this game.

In regards to iconic gear, I think they have been pushing less farming method to impliment them. IE, styles are in collections, investigations, and briefings. I do miss the time of Abra's chest, but eh...

The only diff maker in the dox video is where the clip lands because the game slows durring ads spawning and the timng gets thrown off a bit. If he was doing it by hand he would have looked more like the WT video the whole time as lag in the WT is way less than Dox was back then. And a camera recording your hands only req a camera and I see plenty of people stream game video and selfie cam so thats not a valid excuse if its working opposite of general logic (should be harder to execute in the raid).

Streaming and recording is not the same. Recording takes a higher toll on your PC performance especially if you have a lousy HD because it slows down your PC immensely. Streaming is mostly on the CPU, but recording is on both the CPU and HD. Huge difference dude.

Lately, there seems to be two groups of end-game players: those who spam replays to gear up immediately and those who don't. Those who don't are regularly excluded by those who do because of CR, losing out on the chance to get gear.

Replays most definitely have an effect on progression.

I want to offer a dissenting opinion.

I remember clipping, OC and difficulty a lot differently.

Clipping was only viable for a few Powers, and at the height of OC, exclusion and discrimination against Power-sets was equally at it's peak.

Clipping also was an energy vacuum. Controllers at the time had to do their hardest to keep up with the demand.

Healers went through an extinction event, as you can't heal one-shots.

You had to have Expert mods to get to CR levels where you would be accepted, but those were expensive and rare. Plans and gear only dropped from the raids you wouldn't get into without the gear you didn't have because you couldn't get into the raids.

The enrage timers in Nexus called for big time DPS, and LFG was only asking for specific Power-sets.

The story of OC is still one of the best, I love the lore and the alerts and Iconic Solos were awesome. The raids catered to the top percentile, though, and a vast majority of players couldn't complete them. That means 'fun' was only for a few, frustration for most.

Often people here are calling for higher rewards for higher risk, but when you get a Throne Elite glitch, you see that the same people calling for a 'challenge' only want to stand above the rest with their gear, and don't want to 'work' for it.

Today's system of raids, alerts, duos and solos is much, much better.

If you really want a challenge and content to cut your teeth on, I propose to make Elite raids and even alerts really, really hard. But keep the rewards the same as they are now. Elite gear with the same item levels as regular gear with a spiced up style and a title to go with it.

Anything else would again divide the player base. We still haven't recovered from the last toxic spill.

But you aren't looking at how the macro is built. According to Omaar you build your macro for the worst of lag. So at your peak lag in a raid you get a parfect clip ie. the ads spawning. In times of low lag you will be a tad late and thats okay because if you build for perfect conditions then you will go too fast in times of spike. The way that Dox video is exactly what I experienced macroing K007 in Dox by following Omaars instructions (on PC side, idk how to macro ps3)

My only issue with the R&D stuff, is that it DOES take a while, especially if we are forced to craft certain items. Those 2 scrap boxes are a little too frequent for my liking and being forced to use my scraps on items can be rough.

I just crafted my first piece of gear (a face) for 500 scraps. Like you said, it took 6 weeks, but it was a piece I was forced to craft. I'll have 2 more I'm forced to craft next month too (for what I assume will also be 500 scraps). I run every piece of content I can for salvage every day and I'm not even ahead of the game.

I really want to see those pieces return as drops and allow me to craft actual pieces of gear I might not have gotten. Then I think it'd be fine.

What's wrong with dcuo? Better question is what isn't wrong with dcuo...

Kaiser may not have used macros but he was also not using just his hands either. I'm sure you can still find THAT video out there

I loved running Fos2 when I was at tier. If the group did not play their roles there was no chance and it made you feel good because you knew what you were doing. Now anyone can go solo it if they do not mind warping to rally to clear the two sides.

I think it'd be really useful for the community to see a picture of how the R&D system and Gear Episodes is put together. Pictures (when done right) are great :D

A while ago I tried to knock something up, but ran out of time and didn't want to run the risk of getting the facts wrong when trawling through all the posts in the thread.

Roughly, I got to the point of (WARNING THIS MAY TOTALLY WRONG!!!):

If anyone wants to correct/finish it off.

That way it'd be a handy reference to see what could be crafted/bought and when.

Personally, I like the system and think it's a good start - I would love to see it expanded further!

The problem aren't the replay's badges itself, but the way they are implemented.
Replays badges were there for the people to catch up, but it developed as a milking cow in many ways, for the player base and as a revenue for DBG.

I wonder if people still spam replay's if.

    A. loot only drops after a fully finished content.
    B. vendor gear was the best gear in game and the main gear chase.
C rare/elite pieces only were craftable

I really get it that RP are here to stay, just reinvent the current model and bring back people who left these game for RP model.

Devs, Actions speak louder then words.

Until we start seeing more changes for the better. An development of solutions for the problems we consistently point out about the game. Like some that the OP pointed out. Nothing is gonna change.

Thanks for buckling down on DPS balance and Cross Platform.

However, Skill Points revamp, Support Role tutorials, and many other aspects need to be done ingame. Just pointing this out.

Regardless I feel the game is slowly pushing towards the right direction. Trying to be patient.

OC was not the best time. The time before it was. OC drove away a mass of players, lol! We never recovered from it either!

another point is the drops are on an RNG meaning any expected outcome is pointless..
it is possible to get the drops in two weeks time or could take 6 months times...
seeing as how the rng could go well for you but also drop the same gear over and over again..

You make good points, but the way you write them out bothers my O.C.D lol, sorry :p
    Nonetheless, I agree wholeheartedly.

(We all make typos and use improper grammar and such, even me  but it drives me bananas when it's so much)

One other thing though- aside from loot drops, there's also the marks which you use in the vendors.
People would still milk it for the marks, someway somehow.

Now, as far as marks go, with the current system, vault tickets are definitely the biggest problem.
Buy enough vault tickets and you can get as much vendor gear as you want, without running a single instance.

    Epic thread. +1000

Regarding difficulty and gear progression: I really liked that in T4 and T5 we had some hard raids and feats that we could gear up for over a longer time. Since WotL1 whenever we had slightly hard content we overgeared it either right away (most of the time) or with the next DLC's gear. I guess the 3-month gear replacement isn't going away anytime soon but I do wish we had some new epic piece of content that would be tough for a year and keep us wanting better gear, loadouts and practice to beat the hardest version, instead of just farming marks to progress to the next cycle of farming marks.
Elite gear doesn't move me at all, I don't care for elite affinity mods or whatever bonuses that gear gives if there is no content I would need it for and if I can replace it with trash gear after a maximum of 3 months (assuming I get that gear on day 1).

About combat mechanics I already wrote up my opinions as response to Deranya's great open letter.
Summary of issues with the past 1.5 years of updates:
I understand that there are groups of players who hated clipping or just like WM or AM more, but I don't understand why clipping (and WM after it) had to be killed completely to make them happy, and why some of them try to crush even the slightest suggestion to make classic combat viable again. Diversity is great, especially with these three very different playstyles that appeal to very different groups of players. No need to cut any of these three, better just bring them in line to make them actual alternatives like they were promised to be.

I'd comment on the other points (PvP, RBs, tradables, SP) but you already covered them quite well. I appreciate all people who take the time to provide highly constructive and insightful posts like these without resorting to misinformation, fallacies, catchphrases, personal attacks or youtube attention "horsing".

The DLC itself doesn't drove people away, it was the decision to make the best gear in game a loot drop locked behind RGN loot table.
    that combined with the replay's.

There is a difference between a mmo business model, and gameplay/mechanics/power sets and community.
And the mmo business call drove people away.

But hey let's agree we disagree
