What's a good Pftt power?

Heya, so I came back after finding out that the stats revamp thing happened and was wondering what current would be a good pftt power to use? Now I don't mean which power does the most damage since I know you all dislike that question, instead what I'm wanting as a "good" power is something that is:

-Power efficient so that while it may run out of juice doing the best rotation without a controller, I could use a weaker set for questing that either takes a long time to run dry or never runs dry.

-Cool visuals as I tend to like flashy attacks similar to Black Mage or Red Mage from FF14 or Mage in general from WoW.

    - Simple to play since as I get older, I've grown to have less patience with jobs/classes/etc. that have you doing overly complex mechanics just to something like deal damage or heal.

Personally, I was debating between Quantum or Electricity, but since everything is changed, I'm willing to try something else as long as it isn't gadgets or munitions as I've already tried those and they don't really play well into the idea of a mage type super hero. I thank you all for your time in helping me pick a power for power spamming. :)

I try to ask for advice and I end up with responses that I presume are meant to be sarcastic. Guess this is to mean that DCUO is off limits to the inexperienced or new players.

You received 5 responses. 3 of which were not sarcastic in any way. One that clearly was and the other response was to one of the previous responses. Maybe insulting people trying to be helpful isn't so helpful, ya know?

The revamp is still pretty new and there is disagreement over whether all powers are fairly equal, which I think was the intent of the Devs and that there are still powers that are above and beyond the others. I don't have an opinion on that question.

For myself, I use Fire. And the only difference I have noted post-revamp is that I have to go a little slower with the powers or work some weapon play into the mix in order to not run out of power. I have never scoreboard chased though and don't know how it compares to the others.

    -One officially non-sarcastic reply

E works...munitions works...havent tried atomic in a while but ive heard things...earth too,,,even if they nerf hammer heck you dont even need hammer in your load to make earth work...of course not saying you shouldnt im just saying earth is way more than a 1 trick pony...fire havent tried ice in a while cant imagine theyve made it weakest though...hl is all might based combo or 123 it would seem pretty flexible yes no.??..been awhile for me and light too i suppose...you have many choices...and water just came out...check out its guide...havent even looked but i imagine the testers have posted one in guides by now...water might be best pfft of all who knows??

    To Agate:
One response told me a power I had already said in my first post that I was not interested in as it did not fit with the idea I wanted for my character. Then I get Atomic Tank, which I was not including as a sarcastic response, but the person said nothing as to why it met my criteria so I can't easily just rush into the power. Then you have one saying that all powers fit what I want, with the next saying they don't so those answers contradict each other with either one being sarcastic or incorrect. Finally we have the "funny" reply.

Of those responses only one gave a power that I hadn't already excluded beforehand, but without explanation or the person's opinion given on why the power covers what I'm wanting, I can't just dive head first into it. I was not aware that the revamp was still new and until you, no one wanted to mention that. I had no clue since any info I can find is a giant mixed bag so I'm unable to get an accurate idea of things without asking you all directly. My intent was not to insult but to present a flustered player trying to gather info and being met with responses that provide no info or a response that, while meeting the basics to qualify answering my question, gave little for me to be able to consider the power.

If people had just said what you said about the revamp still being new and the powers are still in flux, I would have been ok with the answer and just continue trying out powers until something stuck. Again, I'm not trying to start trouble or insult anyone, just trying to get information is all since my own personal attempts at research resulted in either outdated info or no info at all (heck, still trying to find out what level the focus things unlock at since no where mentions a minimum level for them).

As I said in my initial post, I'm not worried about dps, I'm just wanting a simple and flashy power that is power efficient and isn't either gadgets or munitions since I've already had those in the past and I would prefer something that fits a magic or meta type of character better. If that means all powers qualify, that is fine I'll accept that answer and keep trying out each power til I find one I like, but if there are some powers that better fit than others, that would reduce the pool of powers for me to try and makes it easier to find one to stick with than having a larger pool of powers.

Simple would be earth or sorcery. You can still run them the same as before revamp. You can ALMOST use the same load outs for both sides of each power.

Edit: DO NOT MESS WITH QUANTUM as it is not power efficient at all.
  13. Jacob Dragonhunter Steadfast Player

    Water's fairly Efficient.

Combo Powersets(Besides Atomic) Are fairly friendly towards power consumption too, granted you need to watch how much power costs some of the abilities have(This is why I said"Besides Atomic" as it's riddled with mostly 300 costs) but they are probably your best bet for playing PFTT.

If you don't want to combo; then maybe Munitions. I've heard it plays well from PFTT; I can't confirm this though as I've lost the spark to continue playing my munitions guy.

Well, I didn't realize I had to write an essay explaining why Atomic Tank fit your criteria. You said you wanted something that was very power efficient, and although Atomic DPS is actually pretty power hungry the tank side has decreased power costs and it is extremely power efficient, so that's why I said Atomic Tank. It may be the most efficient power in the game right now. And I think atomic looks cool. And the combos are very easy; you alternate between two powers (atom splitter and thermochemical explosion) with two taps in between. So I guess there are some "mechanics" but they are pretty easy since it is the same combo (tap melee, tap melee) for both powers. And, I don't know, atomic is as mage-ish as quantum or electric to me.

But this is all stuff you either knew (I mean, you either think it looks cool or it doesn't) or would be right there if you looked up atomic information.

Electricity is extremely play from the tray friendly, does great damage and looks really cool

    Renyruu,

I get where you are coming from (I think!) and it would have been nicer if you received more explanation about answers. It just doesn't mean no one wants to help. Plus it now looks like you are getting some better answers.

Fire was very much a 1234 kind of power pre-revamp and can still be used that way with the modification I listed above. I still use it in end game stuff (except raids. I haven't done much there). But, I am looking to see what might be even better and, at least for fire, I think there is still much discussion on what the 'best' load out and rotation might be.

It will be your call if fire is 'flashy' or 'power efficient' for you. I find it so in my limited experience.

I will try to answer any fire questions you may have. You may find some more answers in some of the new power guides getting written in Oracle's DB.

Yeah, if you want easy, earth DPS is pretty easy right now. If you liked AM era ice dps, you'll like earth dps.

    To Headliner:
I apologize. I'm not expecting eassy long answers. I was thinking more along the lines of "I recommend power X because you can do Y with it and attacks A, B, and C look cool to me." For example, if you were to ask what FF14 job I would recommend, I would suggest Red Mage because it gives you moments where you can melee while still being a caster and Impact, Verholy, and Verflare are some of the most visually impressive spells of any job in the game. Nothing fancy, just your personal opinion on the power is all.

Also, I've never tried AM ice. During AMs I was Munitions and while I enjoyed the limitless amount of power I had and the ability to use nothing but my powers, the power itself (being a gun toting hero) just didn't appeal to me as I had hoped. I've always enjoyed being a caster or mage type of character more.

    To Agate:
I understand. I know I may be coming off as aggressive or hostile, but I'm honestly not trying to do so. I do appreciate all the answers given and am looking through the powers, though Earth and Sorcery have me a bit worried since I do vaguely recall those powers were weapon dependent with that AM system so I avoided those powers (which is what had me as munitions during the time of AMs, but in the end munitions just wasn't appealing to me as a power). Trying to read through individual topics on my own only leads to a mass amount of confusion with so many conflicting opinions and complaints that it makes it hard to really grasp how a power plays so I'm left in the confused state that I find myself in over trying to find a power that works for me.

As for fire, I can also give it a test run. As far as flash, what I'm looking for is abilities that have actual visual effect to them. For example, I'm currently trying out Quantum and while it's first ability (Inspiral waves I think) has a visual effect to it, the third ability (can't remember it's name at the moment) seems to have nothing at all. Sorcery, which I just started has a great looking first ability with it's beam thing, but it's next one Soul Barrage only seems to trigger it's visual effect half the time while the other half is just no visual at all until it hits something. I had a similar problem with the Hand Blaster's charge attack where on PS3, I use to see the ball being thrown all the time, but now on PS4 I see nothing and yet the animation still plays out. I don't know if this is a problem with the game itself or because I'm playing on PS4, but it becomes a bit of an annoyance to have a power start visually great and then start getting powers that seem to have no effects to them. As for power efficiency, I just want to at least be able to do quests while never touching a weapon or having to stand in a safe spot while I wait on power to refill or soda to cooldown to restore power.

Electricity has some cool effects and dps is pretty straightforward. It is also pretty strong now.

I actually really like celestial dps. I think it has some of the best visual effects in the game and definitely feels very "mage ish". The problem is that it involves a lot of combos and can get a little complex. Once you have it down, it is well worth it (imo), and again, the visuals are probably my favorite.

Celestial is a good PFTT power and has some nice visuals - Wrath of the presence/Consume Soul, Plague glyph under enemies and haunted (the combos can be a bit tricky to get used to though as a new player)

Nature - if you like plant effects, Harvest = man-eating plants, briar puts a thorny patch at the feet of enemies and serpent call wrap your targets in snakes. Not to mention you can transform into a dog or a wolf (or a bug in healer stance)

Ice has some very nice visual - Wintery Tempest covers the ground with ice, Bitter Winds surrounds you with chunks of ice and Artic Gust sends freezing air from your hands

Water - another great visual power. Shark Frenzy -sends a water shark diving at your enemy and on impact a huge splash, Ebb- sends a wave out to pul you enemies in and push them back out again and Aqualance spears your targets with watery tridents. On the healer side there is (cant remember the name) a massive pool with jelly fish that heals everyone around you. There are also 2 great super charges - sea creature and whirlpool.

Mental and Quantuum also have really good visuals however these powers are not really balanced atm and are pretty power consumming and although you will have a great look power you will soon become frustrated with its power outage

I've only mentioned a few here but there are others - my advice would be to play them all and have fun. DCUO is very very different from FFXIV and so are the graphics.
