What will "League Halls" mean for players who don't want a 'Real' League?

Keep in mind the game is being developed as it was intended to be, as an MMO. They aren't going to change the game into a first person super hero game, not to say it wouldn't be neat to have such a thing, this just isn't that game. Since it is an MMO, and leagues have suffered and lacked in a lot of ways over the years due primarily to not having the tools and content necessary to truly make them special, it is only right they take some time and finally upgrade them.

Many hate PVP, so should we not continue to develop that aspect of the game?

Many hate PVE, so should we do away with that aspect of the game?

In theory, one could say many don't like anything about DCUO, so just stop developing everything?

I am amazed by the few that continue to believe this update is so "terrible" for the lone wolf players. Does it do a lot for them? No. Of course not. That wasn't the specific target audience for the update, leagues were, it will do a lot for leauges as a result... In time, I'm sure additional content will be developed that those lonely players will get more out of, EVERY UPDATE CANNOT CATTER TO LONEWOLVES...some are going to be for PVP, some for PVE, and this one is, well for LEAGUES.

My only complaint is the 700 item limit for decorating. The hall is HUGE and we have folks in our league who LOVE to decorate!

Someone just needs to edit the audio so that the dialogue is:

    "Where am I?"

    "In the League."

    "What do you want?"

    "Your Skill Points."

    "I am not a number, I'm a free man!" ;)

That is very optimistic, "glass half full" way of seeing things. I'm glad some people are staying positive.

You do know tho Pro bonuses aren't that great right? You really wouldn't be missing much if you didn't have them.

Can I borrow a few of them for decorating purposes only? :D

No one has asked for DCUO to be changed into a single-player game. I am looking forward to GU39, it will have League Halls and many features for managing Leagues that have been wanted and requested for quite a while.

I was simply addressing two concerns with my post, which you have chosen to ignore:

    A) There have been a lot of genuinely hateful responses in this thread, where a subset of players have literally been told to stop playing and go play a single player game.

    B) I can sympathise with the complaint about the Proficiencies. Is it really necessary for there to be stat boosts in order to get people to join leagues? Really? Leagues already provide inherent benefits to players -- if a subset of players do not enjoy being in a league they will already have a more difficult time progressing. I really do not see why there would need to be stat boosts and name-calling of "lone wolves" in order to increase league participation.

It isn't official though, it was one of the few whispers that happened in between :p
And I can just imagine the guys in mine. They will tell me to not decorate ...ever! :( I will ask if I can get a square where I can at least place a rainbow. They are so mean some times xD

off topic here, but can anyone tell me how much prestige can you get max in week?, i know as league can have most 400k but there is another limit how much you can get in a week?

I contributed a few ideas way back but I'll repeat them. Essentially they all boil down to sync'ing abilities for a larger impact. One would be be that orbital strikes could build on each other. The first strike would do normal damage, the second strike would get a bonus, and each subsequent strike would get a bigger bonus. Another could be if a troller stunned an enemy then AOE's would get a bonus. Essentially anything could be done that would generally require a team to work together rather than each player do their own thing. The bonuses would only apply to league mates though and the same process could be used.

If the intention is to make leagues more rewarding then the reward should be from leagues actually working together. It seems to defeat the purpose of league halls is someone can create a league, disable league chat, recruit a bunch of solo players and get the same bonuses as a league that plays together and develops teamwork.

A.) Because its a MMO, not a single player game. When the DEV's and many others have attempted to explain why this isn't the end of the world, players will still be able to do and accomplish what they want to, these individuals have refused to accept that. To use your term, they elect to ignore much of the sage advice that has been given to them. They bury their heads in the sand, offer no concrete solutions for their concerns, only continue to fuss and complain that someone, somewhere, may benefit from this more than they do. Last time I checked, no game ever developed was for a single person to play. These players need to realize that many things are developed that benefits them, and sometimes it is others whom have failed to receive the benefits... they were fine with those. They have their handouts already. I, as a league leader, have waited almost 3 years for this content and features to be released, and I am not alone.

B). I cannot sympathies with their concerns at this time. The proficiencies are very small, hard to obtain, and offer very little advantage to be honest. I have openly asked on multiple occasions for alternatives to the proficiencies, I have yet to be given any type of response. The league halls themselves are going to be hard to acquire, the proficiencies, even more so. These individuals actually argue against your point that leagues are beneficial. They argue leagues take things form them, treat them badly, and hinder their development of their character as they see fit. They are anti-social, in a social team environment game. So why offer proficiencies at all if they are weak? They are a goal, and incentive to obtain prestige, they give leagues and league mates something to shoot for and try and obtain. Don't like them? Then give a viable alternative solution, otherwise realize that many things developed over the course of the games life, were not intended for everyone in the audience.

I doubt that information is readily available at this time and it may never be... I know that prestige will be harder to acquire the closer a league gets to the cap.

I'm not gonna lie, I don't like the idea of the stat boosts that much.

My league isn't huge, with "40-50" members, nor do we want to start mass recruiting in order to get the full benefits of league halls. We enjoy playing with who we have, and with other people with the same mindset. We recruit anyone who's capable of having a good time and could cause a few laughs. We play when we can, and when we want to.

A league should be meaningful. League halls are going to cause many small leagues to feel as if they're missing out. It'll cause mass-recruiting for all the wrong reasons. I don't think everyone has fully thought of the possible consequences behind these buffs, but I'm also guilty of not fully thinking of the positives behind it, if any.

Another alternative could be that anyone IN a league, receives a set amount of these buffs. I'm sure the devs can implement additional Prestige sinks.

In the end, we'll adapt. No big deal. :)

My league is much like yours. We may foucus a little more on the recruiting end but not a mass recruitment. We will still vet each one.

Actually I had forgotten your post, and I apologize for that... the only problem I have with this particular idea is that I think each DLC should remain separate from each other. Not everyone is legendary or has access to HT, as such, trying to link a benefit from one DLC to another just wont work.

I do like the idea of team work, and league participation together, somehow enhancing what a league is capable of doing. I fear it would be scrutinized much harder than the proficiencies though. You're rewarding an automatic bonus to someone, versus working hard to obtain a small bonus. Using your same argument, an individual could join a league for a raid, to get your bonus, and then leave when the content was completed. That fails to build anything for a league, and people still are able to take advantage.

So are you really justifying the hateful comments telling people to leave the game? Really? It's an MMO, so it's OK to be abusive towards people?

A viable solution would be to simply not have proficiencies. As I already stated, the League Halls and new tools for managing Leagues are plenty enough to make me very happy as a league member. Why do you need stat boosts in order to make being in a league worthwhile?
  17. TheRealDeathern New Player

They are modest at best, certainly not a huge advantage when you take into consider the time and effort to get them. You may be better off actually chasing skill points...

I will be removing a few inactive players and maybe, replacing them with people whom elect to still play. Our roster has ballooned a little larger than I personally want it. Mass recruiting just isn't going to happen for us. Like you, around 40 - 50 members in my league, some with multiple toons, and we elect to keep it small (relative term, the figures I saw said we were about average size league... ), regardless if we get the proficiencies or not...
  18. Feenicks New Player

That's not a viable solution. The bonuses are a small (very small) perk for being in a league. It will cause no major issues. It's impact will be soooo small that a viable solution is not needed.

Have I been disrespectful or told anyone to go play another game? No. So you have your answer.

Do I have to have generators, teleporters, exobytes, mods, plans, new gear, new encounters, new styles, pvp updates, pve updates, trinkets, or anything else that has been developed?!??!? Every update, or development, has a target audience, and a benefit for those players. When last laugh came out, it was purely for PVP folks. This one is pretty much for League folks. I'm sorry non-league members are upset at that, but they have several options available to them if they want to cash in on the "big advantage" of being in a league. No one is forcing them to join, and no one is keeping them from joining, so electing on your own to not take advantage of a certain available option, and then complaining about it, seems pretty silly.

these have been added for a very specific reason; the devs realize there is a sub niche of players playing who are entirely focused on min/maxing their playstyle and hyper competitive. they don't want to make friends or be social they just want to "win". the proficiencies are designed to address their mentality. it creates a numerical argument for them to join leagues too; they will literally be at a [small] disadvantage by choosing an antisocial playstyle.

MMOs as a business model rely on their players grouping and bonding and forming relationships. when players bond and form these relationships and friendships in the game, they are far more likely to continue to play the game. players stay subbed and play with their friends. when they don't build those connections and just log in and out, they don't stay long... they log in, eventually get bored of the game and then leave the game.

incentivizing leagues is good for the game and will work towards combating "churn" and attrition. it's also good for solo players because it will aim to convert them into group players and in the process give them a better experience from the game. it is much more difficult to progress in this game as a solo player than with a regular group, so bringing these players further by virtue of showing them the value of groups commits them to a longer play experience but also shows them more of the actual game than what they would on average be able to experience on their own solo. only the most dedicated focused solo players will stick with the game and experience it's endgame content. it requires much less effort when playing as a regular part of a group of friends.
