What is War of the Light Part II's "Gimmick"?

To date, every DLC released thus far has had some type of "gimmick" attached to it, in addition to its content. This gimmick can range from something simple like introducing new game mechanics, to releasing new Powersets that compliment its respective DLC.

Over the years, we have received the following:
    • Fight for the Light: New Powerset - "Light"
    • Lightning Strikes: New Powerset - "Electricity"
    • The Battle for Earth: New Powerset - "Earth"
    • The Last Laugh: New Weapon - "Shield"
    • Hand of Fate: New Armor/Mechanic - "Utility Belt"
    • Home Turf: New Mechanic - "Lairs", "Lair Battles" (PvP), "Mainframes", various new Trinkets
    • Origin Crisis: New Powerset - "Quantum"
    • Sons of Trigon: New Powerset - "Celestial"
    • War of the Light Part I: New Powerset - "Rage"
    • Amazon Fury Part I: New Mechanic - "Weapon Mastery" (released in a free Game Update prior to launch)
    • Halls of Power Part I: New Mechanic - "League Halls" (released in a free Game Update prior to launch)
So after reading the recent hype for War of the Light Part II, what will be this DLC's gimmick?

Due to the Devs recent change of mind to release future Powersets, Movement variants, Legends characters, etc. separate from DLCs, will there even be a gimmick at all? Could this very well be the first of many DLCs to come that strictly only offers playable content and nothing more, or is this simply an oversight or time constraint with War of the Light Part II's release?

Just a curious observation. Feel free to discuss/debate.

Probably skimming. Although much like the the league halls for halls for the power it will probably not be released at the same time.

not to urinate in your breakfast cereal but utility belt, weapon mastery, league halls were released pre-dlc as part of an update :)

  5. BumblingB I got better.

Utility belt was not and is not free. You require DLC5 to use it.

@OP, there is no "player package". Watch the SOE Live keynote. They will be modularizing DLCs and player packages.

I wonder the same thing. I assume Skimming. But it makes me wonder how this a-la-carte structure is going to work. Do you get skimming if you buy the DLC? If you buy Skimming, will the DLC be cheaper for you if you buy it in the future? I feel like this is the start of "double dipping" when it comes to DLCs and Player Packages. League Halls and Weapons Mastery were free updates not tied to the DLCs and people still bought the DLC for $10. I honestly won't be surprised if the DLCs still cost $10 but future powers will cost an extra $5 - $10 (not counting the $10 to buy a respec token).

Nothing. "Gimmicks" or "Player Packages" as they are correctly called are no longer included with traditional DLC packs. Story content, powers, Legends characters and other player additions like movement mode variants will now be sold separately so that they can release content faster. So far it's working very well and I couldn't be happier about the change.

Skimming will most likely come around the same time as the DLC, but that is a coincidence. The two are not directly linked.

Skimming and War of the Light Part 2 are completely separate items, not linked together at all.

What is the point of this post?

Utility Belts are directly tied to the Hand of Fate DLC. You can only use Utility Belts if you are a Legendary subscriber or a Premium member that has purchased Hand of Fate. Otherwise it will say in-game in red letters that your character is missing DLC, and you'll be unable to equip them.

And I already mentioned in the OP that Weapon Mastery and League Halls were released "pre-dlc as part of an update". Did you even read it before attempting to troll? :)

I've seen the SOE Live keynote. I know they will be modularizing DLCs and player packages. It was even mentioned in my OP. I just didn't know if this was being changed now with this DLC (since I assume it has been well in development prior to their change in DLC structure), or at some point in the future since I was not aware of any time frame for its implementation.

To confirm, our DLC Packs will be content-focused under the new(ish) structures and plans, like Halls of Power Part I and Amazon Fury Part I are. As noted at SOE Live, we'll continue to add Legends characters and features like Powers or Movement Variants separately throughout the year.

I really hope that the new powers will cost $5 if it's not packaged with a DLC. It would be a shame if the power costs $10+ when a DLC would only cost $15.

New styles, gear, briefs, being the stepping stone of the WotL story that leads to the big finale, the basic point of every game which is to enjoy it for play and not just treat it like a statistic because otherwise why even play if not for fun?Besides that as others have said and it seems to be restated a lot lately, there is a new structure to the way dlc is being released so that we get content faster instead of having to wait for it as one big bundle 3 months (maybe/sometimes longer) at a time.

So from now on, DLCs like WoTL II will be cheaper or same price that old DLCs even if there's no new powers or legends attached to DLCs?
If the price is the same as old DLCs looks like paying same for less. Premium players would have to pay for content, powers and legends separately...
Not really getting how would work.
Same for "trilogy" DLCs, I know players now demands DLCs more often and we consume content much faster but old DLCs looked more complex and complete that the trilogies we are getting lately.
    I prefer quality over quantity.

Btw, Mepps, can dev team someday make all of powers selling separate from DLC's (through special marketplace tokens), announcing prior that there'll be last change buy both powerset & content into one DLC, which will be cheaper before untying. Tokens will include tokens for all 6 powersets from light to rage & token for shield weapon. And Utility Belts/Home Turf mod make free, because they empower characters, just like WM. Please do that for Sake of Equity!

I too am wondering about this.$5 max for other content seems fair to me.I mean $10 for a dlc with content and a new power.Hmm....Okay sounds about right.$10 for content and $10 for a new power seperate.Hmm......Which thinking about it makes me rethink and reconsider the OPs post about what WoTL 2s gimmick is.Fun and enjoyability vs getting your money's worth. These is tricky times we's livin in mmhmm.

Edit: Double reply again my bad MT.
