What did farming Skill Points teach you.

A lot of people are complaining that Skill Points should not matter. Or that they are not as important as people think they are. The truth is that farming Skill Points actually teaches you skills. Like in the Karate Kid. Will Smith's kid learned how to defend himself simply by putting on and taking off his jacket. Sometimes farming seems dumb, but if you do it anyway you will learn something from it. Let me give you an example of why Skill Points do matter.

In the War of the Light Part I DLC, there is a feat called Efficient Generator Disrupter. During the Lantern Strike Team operation, you need to disable all three construct generator beacons at a construct generator within 2 seconds and you have to do it 11 times. It's only worth 10 feat points, but it taught me the importance of communication, patience, timing and trust in your teammates. That's a valuable lesson to learn that continues to pay off to this day.

Who else can remember a feat that gave them a skill that made them better at this game?

Oh my God, can you at least use the original Karate Kid references?! D: Please. That wasn't even Karate, it was Kung Fu.

Also, Skill Points don't teach you anything other than how to put time into the game. Players can have really good amount of skill points and still don't know how to play. Look at me, I have over 300 and I'm terrible!

Style feats probably helped me. Instead of thinking of it as tedious to rerun old content over and over, I used it to learn roles better. When I was learning to tank, heal, or be a controller, I'd hop into older content with lower gear on and run it for styles and as a learning experience. With the changes, I probably have a bit to relearn.

I think there need to be more incentives to communicate in this game. I rarely see anyone talk anymore. :(

It taught me patience for the style feats ... and the hard ones taught me how to tank/dps better

I just mentioned this elsewhere. Most of them are just centered around replaying stuff over and over. At least that's the majority of the options I have left when I look through that website in my signature.

What I have learned with my 205 SP. They teach you how to make a video game with a small amount of content last 6+ years.

Yeah can we get some team communication feats? " During the blackest night, wipe without quitting immediately after, then ask your team for guidance"

Well, those no dying feats and no using soder/supercharge feats whilst leveling up taught me how to win fights utilizing the health barrels, blocking and rolling, and my moves/shields that migrate damage.

Speed feats (done at tier) taught me how to work as a team to get content done efficiently and how to battle heal.

The feats about avoiding beams/lasers/whatever taught me to be aware of my environment and avoid death whilst still beating things down.

The grindy feats for doing x number is solos/duos/alerts/bounties taught me that rewards are given to those who dedicate their time and energy to their character. (Oh and how to complete said content as a healer helped me perfect my loadout to in not only to keep me/my teammates alive, but also deal damage at the same time).

The Leader of the Pride feat (Catwoman solo) taught me that sometimes thinking outside the box can give you great results.

Honestly, I've learned so much from getting feats in this game I do think that whilst SP doesn't necessarily make you a better player, obtaining them can.

farming skill points teaches you nothing. The ones that requires to to do a certain things in instances does.

Sorry, I think you would have to look at each individual skill point and determine if there was an in game skill acquired from obtaining it, for example:

Style feats, probably only teach patience which I wouldn't necessarily consider skill

The flash back duo, in under 6 minutes, was a bear for its time, but helped foster faster rotations and load outs that could be carried over to other parts of the game, it still may be one of the tougher feats of its day.

First, could kick you for insulting the ACTUAL Karate Kid movie. That crap show with Will Smiths kid, SMH.

Second, nothing. My 198cr 108sp earth alt got two feats last night. I couldn't stop laughing, really. So I'm in SJ jackhammering away when the 50x feat pops. Then on ultra, the 100x hit. And of course I got a skill points, 109, from it and did the power thing like I leveled up. You know how annoying it is to be broken out of your rotation to level up?

Anyway, my little alt here proves all these threads that skill points mean nothing. You can even, currently, spec into your weapon, movement, and play type. Put ZERO points into crits, precision, or might. Nothing changes. Cause skill points don't matter.

I will concede that there were some hard feats, but after Fridays gorilla crap, I figured everyone got the hard feats out of the way.

    Depends on feat.
Example FOS2 speed feat teach me lot of things when it was still new. Breaking 100 barrels teached me nothing.

Ive literally never replayed anything for a feat. So its strange to see that said. Mind if i ask what feats are centered around replaying?

To the OP feats like EO, deathproof, stuff of legends, grannys gold star, and so many others taught me teamwork, to pay attention to mechanics, to spot mechanics like what to look for, to discuss strategy on voice with other players, being social with other players, etc, etc. I could make a bigger list but really kinda sick of even discussing all of this tbh. People always wanna cite feats like 5k reapers and say sp take no skill. There are a ton of feats like that but also a ton that you have to be skilled for.

Not literally replaying, but rerunning 100s of times

Well thats true. I guess my point is ya dont NEED to replay for em. Are some feats super grindy? Yup. All MMOs have stuff like that.

Farming skill points taught me how to find exobytes faster and how to mindlessly kill paradox reapers.

Why does anyone farm skill points? Just go after feats you find fun or a challenge to get and a sp will just happen. It cracks me up that y'all believe you have to have skill points. You do not. Do they help a little? Yes. Do they max out your toon? Yes. Are they required to know when to block lunge or move? No. Not at all. The difference between a 320sp dps that dies non-stop and can't be picked up because they stood in Dr fates mat and a 100 sp dps who moves out of it? The 100sp toon actually helps you finish the instance.

    But on topic here...

My sp taught me when to move, how to be efficient, play with others for a common goal...and patience for players who need to have it explained to them "skulls are bad" and "if your character is being hurt...find out why and stop it."
