Okay, got my answer. Too much negativity here. I'll just go back and play ESO where I can solo and have fun. Not all this negativity. Good luck with DCUO.
Wish I could say the same but I'm too invested if you're not invested yet and sucked in and taking advantage of then playing another game is your best bet. If you're wondering what I mean by taking advantage of it's called Wolfpack. we already worked for our Arts and paid lots of money for them and they want us to pay again instead of making artifacts shared and don't even get me started on allies they did the exact same thing to add insult injury. You're making the right choice the direction of DC Universe has been awful to its player base
Im pretty sure ESO is more worth to spend money on. I wish I could say otherwise, but i'm not gonna lie. DC Universe Online is totally not what you expect to be. Over the years the game has chosen a losing path. DCUO is losing players left and right and it's happening for a reason. Reasons: Communication between this community and developers is completely lost, the game is on autopilot. Company do not listen to us, every request is just ignored and forgotten. Since years PVP of this game is in a wreck state, it's not updated and whole PVP community has simply quit this game. PVE content is recycled, it is made with lowest possible budget (no creativity/bad quality.) Whole game looks like it is in maintanance mode waiting for the event, namely ''game closure''. If you don't believe me, believe the people that has power over this game where they said themselves that DC Universe Online is/ well was their most profitable game... since everyone leaving i guess it is not anymore their most profitable product. Anyways despite this, all the money they earn from DCUO will not be reinvested back into the game, these goes to develope their other titles such as EverQuest/H1Z1 and so on. The truth is DCUO still exist to be namely milked as much as possible. Artifacts, Time Capsules (RNG Boxes), Booster Bundles, Allies are their main things to earn/milk from DCUO. I truly think it is a personal choice. For me, I find it beneficial to sub, and currently, my plan is to continue to sub for as long as I play this game. If you find it beneficial then it’s something you should consider if it is within your budget. I can also see where it ( subscribing ) could be viewed as a positive endorsement of the current state of the game. For me, I don’t view my sub as an endorsement. I just find it currently beneficial.
For me the big incentive to sub would be A) am I working on my artifacts/allies aggressively and B) will I be buying replays or things from the MP? If those 2 answers are 'Yes' from you, the bonus drops (more Nth and Ally favor), replays (basically like $5 of replays for 'free'), loyalty points (basically $5 'free' money), and 3 extra destiny tokens (again, basically $15 in 'free' money for seals you'll need on artis). The 10% discount would also factor into purchases, depending on what you planned on buying. For example, if you ever intended on buying a Wolfpack, you might as well sub that month as you'll get a $10 discount on the $100 purchase....Plus you'd get the $5 in loyalty which nearly offsets the sub cost for the month that month. The rest is bonus. If you planned on doing this several months, do the year and get it for $10 per month....then bail out after the period is over. It's your decision to make. The daily grant is garbage for the most part (save the Destiny tokens and a handful of Favor/Nth), and you only get the stabilizer bonus on days you run, so the more days you miss each month, the less value there. This is why as a long time sub/player, I don't find any value in the sub at this point. I have 40+ Destiny tokens, a full set of artis on anyone I care to have them, and I DGAS about Allies. I'm not spending any money in the MP and get enough stabilizers to be satisfied from Premium. NOW...if you want to ask is it worth spending $5 to become premium vs F2P...yes. Just the ability to mail stuff, use the broker and get more inventory/bank slots (including 4 more toons worth of 'storage' toons). 100% worth $5, and makes daily life in the game way easier and less aggravating. Side note...anecdote really. I had a buddy that NEVER subbed...he was adamant on NOT doing it. He would buy a-la-carte as he needed something. One month he told me he had bought a 1 week 'escrow token' (no longer needed) which was like $5, some replays (about $5 worth) and a SOC ($5) for his arti. I mentioned, 'Why not just sub for the month?' and he scoffed "I'm not spending $15 on this game". But math IS hard.
I use to say yes go ahead there is perks but I am at peace with it now and would say if you play regularly and have friends go ahead but overall no it's not worth it anymore. If you want change then vote with your wallet and as it stands now imo for me they won't get another cent from me until I see them put more effort into the game and not some TC or booster bundle but we already know the answer lol.
Just my thoughts and opinion: I will sub until the game shuts down, only because I have so much invested in it, it is the only game I am playing, and I love playing a superhero. I rarely spend any money on anything else except for my sub. I am not a scoreboard chaser, so I don't care about rushing to be at the top (gear, allies, artifacts, rotation, etc...) and I use whatever I have fun playing with, while always making sure my teams successfully complete the missions. To me it boils down to whether you want to be 1. at EEG or EEG+ asap or 2. just having fun regardless of your Lvl/CR. If 1. You are probably going to need the sub and spend additional money (maybe a lot). If 2. You can play for free or have a sub, and not necessarily spend a lot of additional money. I am 2 with a sub. Peace and DCUO Forever
It's obviously your choice, but I think it is awful that the forum community seems to mostly be okay with driving players away from the game. That said, I play this game because it's the only superhero open-world type game. It used to have potential to be more, but now that is the only draw for me. If someone came out with another superhero open-world game with good combat mechanics, I'd probably drop this game and not look back. It wouldn't even need to be an MMO as long as it had good stories and a lot of content like many other open-world games have today. I'd miss some of the friends I've made, but I wouldn't miss some of the toxic behavior that exists in this community. I feel like that last part was exemplified in the responses that led to your decision.
While I might have missed that post...who said 'don't play the game'? No one is driving the players away except DBG. A question was asked if it was worth subbing, and while most people don't believe so (myself included), that doesn't mean it's not worth playing the game. If the OP decided to do so as a result of finding out the membership has been scuttled down to near worthless...well, that's his/her decision. DBG decided years ago, that they'd rather have several micro transactions a month vs a sub from most players. If people who'd prefer to sub now leave, or choose not to participate...who's fault is that?
Not sure if you're ignoring people through the forum system or through deciding not to read some of the posts, but there's plenty of sentiment in this thread that suggests it is not worth playing or subscribing. While you and I disagree with each other on the latter, the former is an unfortunate consequence of what some (most?) players want out of the game vs what the company delivers. I do not disagree with some of the reasons many players are dissatisfied, but turning players away diminishes any efforts that might be made to improve the game going forward. MMOs survive on population as much as on content.
So since when does 'don't bother subscribing' = 'don't play the game'? I never said that people didn't say don't sub....I said, in this thread at least, only one guy responded to the 'is it worth playing' with a negative response, and that was simply the word 'No'...not some long diatribe how the game is buggy or graphics are outdated or any of the many other things people COULD say to drive players away. Everyone else in this thread stuck to the topic of sub value...and in their opinion (which is what was asked for) it's not worth paying for anymore. Lorax did a very fine post with point by point reasons why it's not worth paying for anymore, and I even allowed that for SOME people (those looking to quick boost artis/allies, or those who will be spending very much money anyway) it might still even be worth it...even if that's not me personally. No one else said don't play the game. They answered the question that was asked about the sub itself. That was the point of asking a question...to get an answer. What the OP does with it...well, can't help you there. Other than the topic of the sub...and sticking to this thread...who else(other than Black) was bashing on the game itself? I wouldn't even call that bashing as much as just speaking some truths about how the game has been managed. However it was kind of off topic of the sub...so I guess that counts.
I feel like there was more negativity than was warranted for explaining why not to subscribe in a few posts. I am also still frustrated by people talking about the EG7 investment video based on their interpretation vs what was said, though recent inaction does make that rumor mill look more accurate. I guess I wish this game retained players, but I can understand why that is a challenge given the age of the game and the systems that tend to feel overwhelming (episode augments, artifacts, allies, time capsules = skill points) when trying to catch up to or keep up with other players.
I would just like to make an analogy here. Imagine your favorite sports team consistently failing your expectations and yet out of love and past experiences you continue to buy tickets, watch the broadcasts, and hope that there may be a significant playoff run so that you can see even more of your favorite team, and support anyway you can because the product is your favorite. At what point do you honestly say, you know what this just doesn't cut it anymore, I love my team but there needs to be significant improvement, or at the least it should cost me less to support an inferior product on the field? For the people being honest with themselves and setting realistic expectations, they won't be let down because they already know the bar has been set low, and it has been laying there for a long time. And moreover, the team owner doesn't mind the inferior product being presented because they still fill the seats and sellout the arena with losing streaks. I think honesty is the best policy even if it hurts your feelings, the truth is better than the alternative. I appreciate people not blowing smoke and I appreciate people saving others from possibly making mistakes they themselves have already made.
That's fair. When I started to play this game, I envisioned fighting alongside our mentors, the superheroes I grew up reading about and watching from the comics. I thought they'd be in the streets with us, and while they do fight in many raids with us, it's always felt a bit flat. I thought allies would maybe bring that vision to life, and I was a bit disappointed by the combat side being a few seconds long in most cases. I tell that story because it illustrates my overall frustration with the game: it has so much potential that has unfortunately been squandered at so many different turns. I also remember when keeping up at endgame required getting gear and enhancing it with a system that was replaced by the origin augments. To keep up now requires gear, origin augments, artifacts, allies, and episode augments. The grind to maintain it all has made me think that when my subscription lapses in February, I'll probably let it. Then I can go back and play the older episodes I missed at my own pace and play other games in between. I will have no reason to chase the latest carrot.
You see, that's all people were trying to say, if you are new, they have already dumbed benefits down so much one won't have to sub but for some very specific reasons. Let's not forget you can spend 5 bucks and be premium for life. And on top of that you can sub at anytime of the month and still claim rewards from days that you logged on. It isn't so much that it isn't worth playing as much as it isn't worth that investment and as you said chasing that elusive carrot on that cosmic treadmill that seems to pull further from you everyday (or every six months when they release a new episode with preexisting assets and mechanics.) I am on the verge of cancelling my subscription as well if they do not release the Batman Anniversary Emblem by the 21st. This one particular thing is the final straw for me. That straw can be anything to anybody, but don't allow yourself to be consistently let down and yet still put up with it with no push back.
I didn't personally see it as negative towards the game as much as towards the sub...which, sorry...is not really any good anymore except for those who can really benefit from the additional drops/destiny tokens and other 'discounts'. To me a sub should give you more than what you can get either by grinding more...or by shelling out a few micro transactions. We used to have that...we do not any more. As far as the EG7 thing, I watched it when it first came out and it definately did have a 'they are in maintenance mode' feel, even if those exact words were never said. Which, for the game that generates the most money for the division...is disappointing.
https://forums.daybreakgames.com/dcuo/index.php?threads/to-sub-or-not-sub.332573/#post-4651391 Along with other negative comments by that same person. Oh, and also Budokai, who at least was nicer about their criticism of the game.
I play this game off and on and have for 13 years. When I come back, I always like to sub once. If you want to try locked powers, GET THE SUB AND MAKE AS MANY TOONS AS YOU CAN WITH THE POWERS YOU WANT. The powers don't go away when your sub runs out, so you can still play on those toons with the locked powers even after your sub runs out. The other stuff is cool but not necessary.
Yeah, I mentioned that guy. Point was MOST responses were about the sub and lack of value now...which was the original question.
Yes, most of the people who answered were being informative. It's always a minority who just whine about how the game is dead or unplayable. But those are the ones who can ruin the experience for others. I've learned to ignore people who are full of negativity, without posting anything constructive, but I know some people have trouble with that. They probably would not have appreciated the actual toxic atmosphere in the shout channel, in HoL or Little Bo, if they were to play the game. (shrugs)
