The responses on whether to subscribe or not are so far coming from two long-time players who likely already have everything or have given up on the game being successful, so you are dealing with some pretty hefty bias. I personally found it worth subscribing as a returning player, so I would expect new players to also find it worth subscribing. The daily rewards are helpful for catching up on style feats, artifacts, and the new ally system. Are they necessary to catch up? Probably not, but they do make it several times faster to do so unless you play several hours per day. As to whether it is worth playing this late in the game, I still find enjoyment in my playtime most days. There are some frustrations of late with less communication from the game's staff, some odd client-server latency issues, and a very annoying chat bug where new messages end up out of order, forcing you to scroll far up the chat log to see them (fixed 90% of the time by exiting the game and restarting). I would recommend playing for a couple weeks and seeing for yourself if you are finding more enjoyment or more frustration when playing. You can always subscribe at the end of the month to get the daily rewards, and it will also give you rewards going into the next month if you subscribe between the 22nd and 30th. TLDR: Play on a trial basis for a couple weeks and see whether you feel it is enjoyable to you and worthwhile to subscribe.
I was subbing occasionally, mainly for the replays, the 500 MP points, and the extra inventory/bank/shared bank slots, and when I needed to get something off one of my locked toons. Or once in a great while when I reallyreallyreally wanted the members-only style or the day 21 reward, from the daily rewards.
Daily rewards are garbage. But I do consider a minimum of a few months to prepare the account as basic. a) with the coins you can buy an armory (basic for the dual role/double specialization) and increase the inventory and bank space a few levels b) with x2 nth metal and favor (depending on time) you can reach a minimum in artifacts (3x120) and allies (3x6), a character like this can already face any challenge (hands/experience aside) c) create 6 characters with any power you want, whose function will be to store objects for your main account, but over time you can upload them. And you may prefer to use payment powers rather than 6 free. d) if you are not impulsive, you get a few tokens (4/month). Do not use it on metal/ally, its use (I consider) is exclusive to always have preservation/completeness seals whenever you require them. e) I repeat point A (at least for me) having a good amount of space is vital to have a fluid game I was legendary for many years, now it's no longer worth it to me, I leave the financing of the game to those who accept the scam of the capsules/artifacts. But if it catches me active I usually put 3 months for a new episode and 1 for the anniversary.
Open access to all episode content used to be one the main perks that I subbed for, that was removed and given to everyone. Among the existing perks of membership: Marketplace Legends Avatars: They aren't making any new ones. You could save up Marks of Legend, sub up for a month and buy all the ones you need from a vendor. Marketplace Powers: You could just buy whatever powerset interests you. Alternatively sub up for month and make a character with that power and your character won't lose that powerset when your sub expires. Shield Weapon: Do you even use a shield? Not a necessity but you can buy it outright if you wanted it. Skimming Movement: Also not a necessity but you can buy it outright if you wanted it. Replay Badges: 150 badges a month is one of the real perks DBC/Loyalty Points: 500 marketplace cash a month is another real perk Character/Inventory/Bank/Broker Slots: They never give you enough whether you are subbed or not and you will be purchasing extra slots from the marketplace regardless. Unlimited In-Game Cash: This was another perk I used to sub for and now you can get this perk for spending $5 in the marketplace. Send Mail: You used to be able to trade cash and items. They removed the sending cash option completely due to an exploit. Trade: Items and cash. You got to ask yourself if you'll ever use this when the broker is the safer option and free. Voice Chat: You get unlimited access by spending $5 and also Discord exists. Text Chat: I would consider unlimited text a perk if you use the chat box. League: If you wanted to form a league you could sub up for a month and not lose access when your sub expires. Item Restore: Broken and you might use it once in a blue moon. Daily Login Rewards: 3x bonus on items you may or may not use. Various Discounts: Another perk you can take advantage of. Stabilizer Fragments: They never give you enough whether you are subbed or not and you will be purchasing extra stabilizers from the marketplace regardless. Honest opinion if you're going to sub, save your money and sub up during sales and similar events where you can take full advantage.
Instead of asking people if it's worth it all you need to do is look around or watch some YouTube videos. You'll actually say to yourself man it's a great game it's really a shame what it has come down to over the years. We've gotten the same direction for every episode with nothing really game changing not even an investment from eg7. If you ask me I still buy membership because I feel extremely bad for the direction of the game. it doesn't deserve to go through this. it is a very awesome game it's a shame that it has gone in this direction for so long. I would hate for it to shut down because of the direction of the game that the last CEO took jackster. I believe his intentions were great by making the game super free to play and insanely casual. but that doesn't seem to be what eg7 is looking for and it has caused a player base that isn't sticky they spend when things are new and don't stick around, that's not a good sign that's called a very fragile MMO according to eg7. DC Universe Online is in a very fragile position if you enjoy the game you should at least be a member. I'm excited to see how the population is for episode 48 Knowing damn well episode 48 was their last chance to change direction
When it comes to a sub you need to ask yourself if you can benefit from having it. You can just pay the $5 to become premium and unlock all access to chat, more character slots and access to all your in-game cash. I wouldn't say subbing is a necessity anymore in all honesty. As others recommended, you should play the game for awhile and see if you are interested. The early leveling system (1-30) is honestly nothing like end game, so when you get to level 30 and start working on your combat rating, you will notice a major difference in how you do things. So I don't think you should relay only on that, but play some of the end game stuff too (You can try Episode 47 now as there is a event version for new\low CR players.)
Heehee you wanted to come here for that answer you could of easily watched a YouTube or asked Chat Gpt. Are you really a new player or something else hehehehe.
