Dcuo has been around for along time now, we've got tons of DLC seasonals and lore added since the games launch... But one thing that the game is missing is an original character! We've yet to have a encounter with a character whom originated in dcuo! Picture the possibility of A Dlc not bound to certain lore! A quick easy lil episode / event could be a new character just showing up and causes issues around gotham & metropolis Or a new hero has joined the Justice league and villains are tasked with taking him down Or even a original dcuo rivalry! A DCUO take on a bman vs joker relationship! It would be awesome..it could be awesome..
It would be difficult... it would be complicated. Whilst it would be cool, the game doesn't really delve into the backstory of characters anymore. It used to touch upon it with those awesome comic book cutscenes but they aren't being used these days. A new character being created and chucked into the game just really wouldn't work. We'd be fighting a random guy with no proper story, or at least there would be a story that couldn't properly be told through the game.
Not exactly sure how that would work since WB and DC Comics have not just input into the game but even the ability to veto what can and can not be used.. Classic example is how long it took before the DEV team was able to let us have green auras. It wasn't a case of not being able to code them .. DC took a long time before finally signing off on allowing them in the game. Now considering that I have serious doubts the DC Comics is going to allow the Dev team to create an NPC major Hero or Villain and build a whole DLC around that character. Heck we can't even get all the characters available in the DC universe into the game.. Where is Miss Martian? Where is Aqualad? While we see most of the Teen Titans there are a few characters from the TV show Young Justice not in game because WB and DC don't want them here. Same with Green Lantern.. Ever watch the animated TV series? Where are AI and Razor? I'm not saying its a horrible idea but I have my doubts we'd ever get everyone to approve of it and get it in game. Hey on top of all those Management people that would have to sign off it creates another issue.. Who is going to write up the background and draw this new guy? With the established Hero and Villain NPCs we have that has already been done by DC. They create a whole new character no one has ever heard of or seen before and the writers and artists have a ton more work to do JUST to create the character much less designing an entire DLC around him or her.
LOL Only if it involved picking his annoying butt up and tossing it into the river. (that is a river between mainland Metropolis and Stryker's Island right?) Oh I should clarify it needs to involve a situation where heroes or villains can pick him up and toss his annoying butt into the river. WHY? Because he ticks off anyone that hears him. but, they dont have too... they could make a contest and have the players design the character using DCUO and maybe write the story for them.. i mean, have you seen some of the design that people come up with? they are much better than whatever DC came up with..
And did we bother to read all the stuff above that line? Because that was just a throw it as another possible obstacle to the idea. Any new character would still need to be approved by DC and WB before winding up in this game. Now for more history. For years players on these forums were bugging Spytle and Mepps to get Backsied into the game (an actual established DC villain) and at one point Spytle flat out came out and said it would be a long time before that happened. We did finally get him in the game but by then Spytle was not even the boss here at DCUO anymore. Took that long to get all the approvals .. And that was for an establish character already a part of the DC comic book universe. While it would still need to be accomplished I seriously doubt WB/DC would let the Devs just start creating their own major characters.... The game is called DC Universe Online and the DC Comic and Warner Brother logos are easy to spot when you log in. Still not saying it could never happen but I can just imagine the meeting where that idea gets discussed. Three different sets of Management and three different sets of LAWYERS are screaming at each other for days, weeks, ....MONTHS? and in the end very possible still no answer. Think about the potential legal battles... What is this new unique characters name? OH nope can't use that. Marvel had a character like that in ONE episode of one of their comic books back in 1961 .. Stan Lee's lawyers will have a field day with us. What are the characters powers? Oh no... We already have 10 different heroes and villains using those same powers try again What did you just say? OH God no Thanks to Stan Lee's lawyers we can't even whisper the word "Mutant" in the halls much less refer to a DC Character as being one. What does his /her outfit look like? Oh no back in 1972 we had a costume just like that on (pick your DC Comic Hero name here) sidekick. Try again The legal battles alone could take us into the 2020s
well i guess this mean DC need to copy Marvel... because from my time in Marvel Heroes Online, it seems like the game developer of that game get a lot of creative and licensing freedom... just recently i got a notification of them adding in the costume for Guardian of the Galaxy Vol.2 in the game... meanwhile we cant even get CW Supergirl anymore and no news if they are adding anymore bombshell costume..
Yeah sad but true. Still not sure what the huge hang up is between the game and DC is. No idea if they ever revised it but at one point we were told that one reason for no Young Justice exclusive characters was DC had a stipulation that unless a character had actually appeared in the actual comics they could not appear in game. Which makes you wonder since Miss Martian has appeared in comics, So has Aqualad ( and yes I am referring to Kaldor who also Appears in Young Justice) and so has Bumblebee. Now since we already have Beast boy, Kid Flash, Night Wing, Robin, Starfire, Cybog (okay he was a titan not in YJ), and Wonder Girl (both versions Donna Troy and Cassie), plus Batgirl the question is exactly who in Young Justice has not been in a comic book and why exclude only a couple of them? Moving on to another favorite of mine Aya was originally created for the animated series but became popular, sort of just like Harley Quinn, and wound up in the comic books as well. Now Razer, the Red Lantern that rebels and joins forces with Hal Jordon, is also a product of the animated show and I can't seem to find anything showing he made it to the comic books. But the underlying question here is WHAT makes the difference? Isn't it all a part of the DC overall Universe? I realize there is a difference between the comic books and the movies/TV series where Warner Brothers also has controls but .....The WB logo appears on the loading screen as well so if placing a character from a movie or TV shows advertises that movie or show an possibly promoted more sales of DvDs or folks watching the movies and shows on say Amazon or Netflix how is that not a good thing? Like I said it all boils down to lawyers and a pile of red tape. I would love to see more Bombshell stuff as well. It actually surprised me that after their debut we didn't get Bombshell Christmas Posters that year.. I KNOW they exist outside the game online.
The Overlord in the HoD duo(for heroes, not sure what it was for villains) was kinda like that, even if it was only one short appearance. Plus, as others have mentioned, Titantic Trenton, and the two street villains--something like Captain Kruel and....Iron Kurtin?
Did none of your toons ever look in the mirror???? Every player character is a character originating in DCUO. Whenever they enter content, they become part of the story - that's pretty much the concept behind games like this. Really, the devs already do the most terrible job imaginable when trying to depict the lore, don't cut them loose drom that last leash. "Not bound to a certain lore" DLC? What the heck is the license there for, then? I totally dislike the idea of that writers being around here creating an NPC toon that will/may become part of the DC lore even further down the franchise. Mor "DCUO" focus? Let them make more content focused on our own toons. As in, becoming main characters and stop being some glorified gophers like the toons currently are.
Not to mention all of the wonderfully ridiculous names in the Wayne Manor Duo like Mister Fisticuffs, One Pun Man and Bionic Bro. As far as the OP goes, I also seem to remember a contest where a player character could get drawn into the DCUO comic - which means that some characters might just be more 'real' than others.
Actually you do meet a guy in the Superman rescue duo who claims to be exo-enchanced...and hes always itching to prove his powers are better than yours...he lasts about 5 secs tops...if you beat him but allow his robot gaurds to survive you get a feat too...closest thing this game has to your idea...
