I'm on the long path to maximize my pvp cr (if i'm not mistaken it's just "only" 1000 battles and each day i'm closer hehe) and there i have found people easy to win, people with pretty similar level than me (or almost let's say a hard battle), people with we could only have a tie (no one could make enough damage to the other to kill), people clearly better, people that even when are clearly better use heal barrels (it's like you don't need it to win me, why would you use it?), people that struggle on the first round and on the second win me easily or people that use henchmen (that i guess is some kind of error). My personal struggle is against control powers (mental and gadgets), it feels like antifighting, like someone puts a stick on the whell, it's really annoying, with other powers i lose too but it feels totally different. The worst fight was yesterday when i felt overwhelmed by a mental (grrrr) character that totally beat me, i inspected him to now what level he was (100 was my guess) and it was just 10 (ten, diez, dix), is mental that strong against a cr97 (punchline gear) fire? Because it let me perplexed, well i guess some powers works better against others, i'll keep going on my path to 101 and getting better. PS: Maybe i should pick that purple cola... PPS: Sorry for all the long text, have a good one and if you can queue for pvp 4vs4 or 5vs5 or 8vs8 it was funnier the few times i got in there than the 1vs1.
Mental and gadgets are one of the 2 most unbalanced powers regarding pvp. Which is why you see that massive difference.
I think Atomic is the strongest for 1v1. You can use combos the entire time and they can’t be countered. The controllers can stun you sometimes but there are no weapon counters to get blue or time for extra damage. This is the power I used on my journey to 101.
In my experience, PvP skill does matter still, but certain powers can overcome the skill gap if it's not large enough. Mental and Gadgets have some sort of Stealth which can easily do 30% of your HP, even more if they're well geared and specced. That's just how the powers are, and unless you are massively better than them you will probably lose. IMO Legends is a bit more balanced, in the sense that none of the characters have that massive of an advantage, and skill matters (a bit) more. Also you get a Batman character for free if you're a member, and he's already one of the better characters for how simple he is to play. Other strong powers are Rage, Atomic, and (to a lesser extent) Fire Tanks, as well as Water and Electric Healers (I think most Healers could be good but really only seen those two). They can be beat if you're good enough, but have some sort of mechanic that just makes them extremely hard to kill 1v1 if you can't overwhelm them. And well, if you really want to win, and you can't beat them... you'll just have to switch powers.
Invisibility > stealth, Mental hits way harder than Gadgets, has better stuns and has reflect. Gadgets is good, but I don't use invisibility majority of the time. Cryo-field, amazonian deflection, personal shield, hardlight shield, cryo foam and vortex trap give me better results. Atomic is fantastic, it's definitely the toughest tank to fight IMO. Fire takes a while but can usually be overcome. In terms of healer powers, Nature definitely irks me a lot more than any of the others. The stuns are great, as are the DoTs. Now lets talk about the hidden gem, Hard Light. Last year or so, I've seen it a lot more in pvp, and the people playing it are great with it without much actual skill. Definitely worth considering.
I read they were better but i didn't think it was so much, well it doesn't matter even losing i'm progressing so i'll finish the path at some point. I want to win of course but...personally i wouldn't change powers just for finish earlier the pvp. Is it? Then i have been lucky because i have won some atomics with my fire (while we were at the same level or closer), better for me, i hope they continue losing against me. By the way, what do you think is the best order to buy the gear? I was buying in the order that appears on the shop (chest, legs, head, weapon, shoulders, arm, waist, feet, back, face, collar, rings and trinket) but i compared the stats of all jewellry (face, collar, rings) vs the chest (it was the same amount of fists) and if i'm not wrong the stats of the jewelry were better so maybe is better start from the cheaper items to the expensive ones (so face, collar, rings, trinket, arm, waist, feet, back, head, weapon, shoulders, chest and legs). What do you think? I mean, i'll still lose against someone with better gear but maybe i could struggle a little more.
Have you ever used any CR calculators? A google might point you towards sourcewall.com, it should have a breakdown of what % of your CR a piece makes up. I think Chest, legs, head & weapon contribute the most (12% each), but don't quote me on that. I would pick the piece that gives best stat jump each time
I didn't know that thing exists but...i believe it's more for PVE right? In PVP i think it's pointless because you need all the gear to rise to the next level, that is the reason i looked at the stats and seemed better going for the cheaper but...maybe i was missing something, in any case (if my mind serves my rightly) the CR with only the chest was 11 and the CR with jewellry (necklace, rings and face) was 15. PS: In PVE what i do is to start changing the piece of armor with the lowlest CR, since i didn't have any calculator hehe.
Yeah but the stats differ per piece. I just checked, on my 101 set, the chest and back have the most, at 1200 Toughness (main PvP stat), compare that to the neckpiece which is only 500. All the stats attached to each piece scale with the % they contribute to your total CR. So if chest contributes more to the total CR, it will have larger amounts of each stat. Yes you need the full set to ascend to next level, but I would always buy the piece that gives me most % gain first.
Probably it's me not that i'm not able to explain myself or maybe at level 101 the prices of the pieces don't do worthy the comparition i'm doing. You don't have to compare just the chest against necklace but the chest vs necklace+face+ring+ring, in cr97 the chest is 2000 fists and necklace face and rings are 500 each one so you were spending 2000 fists for just a piece or 2000 for four pieces which give you a little bit more stat, but maybe at 101 is not the case. Anycase it doesn't matter, i'm almost close to finish the android gear and i was still beated by people with lower gear than mine and also i was able to beat people with better gear than me so the difference is really small at the end.
A couple of days ago i finish the path to 101, not easy at all specially with the cheaters (very annoying, like that "lo....." from this last days, i wish someone could put a cane or a stick between him and his keyboard/controler so he couldn't reach it and the rest could play and get our fists marks at our own pace). Now i just have to end the "epilogue pvp path", i mean to get the rest of pvp styles.
