The Joke that is Skill Points

It's really all about the CR in this game, then power, then SP is a far third.

With the flat increments the SP give, you barely feel the effect of your skill points, and with the disparity of dps powers(quantum/celes over everything) and tank powers (rage over everything), skill points gets the back seat in your overall "effectiveness" behind CR and Power choice.

Make skill points bonuses be a percentage rather than flat numbers, makes skill points matter again.

I agree but Skill points are still very useful. Obviously each individual SP barely matters, but say 100+ make a big difference over the base 15 you get from leveling to 30.

Their importance is constantly overstated though, I agree.

They should make the stats a percentage increase instead of a flat number. Would make skill points more desirable.

Get two of the same power, both with the same cr. Give one 200sp and the other 50, then tell me it doesn't affect your effectiveness that much.

That is the point. Skill points aren't meant to be a massive advantage, just a slight edge, and that is how it is right now. They are perfectly fine.

Not the point. He was commenting on how it's less important than what CR you are and what power you choose. If they're the same CR/power... what does it prove, other than that he's right?

When WM was added and we got 3rd tier skill points, everyone rejoiced. They were a huge upgrade... only not as much as time went by. Come next tier, they will become even more of a trivial addition. I mean, yes, to have all the skill points, you need somewhere in 400, right? I had a thread before WM and it was trolled to heck.

I think everything should be percentage based. It doesn't even have to be in a whole percent. Currently, DPS one is 25p/m for each point for 3 points. Make it like .33% for each stat, to where 3 points equals 1%.

Actually, that's a good test and easy to accomplish on the test server. You can also test the effective dps of your powerset while you are at it. Win win. :)

Right now i would like too see where we have to really need Skill points as of the moment with The nerfs of power the upgrades of the power backs

its kinda hard too see why we even need skill points anymore.

Give me 77 sp and Quantum, and have the other be 210 sp and Earth, let's see who wins.

Spoiler alert : Quantum wins by a million

No. The same power same cr are the control points of my comparison leaving the sp as the only variable.

I agree 100% with the op. Skill points just do not give a big enough difference to really be effective. Unless you have 60 skill points more than another player, you can't tell a difference. 180sp vs 210sp is no real difference what so ever. People don't even really care about so anymore. People will get to 140ish then that's about it. If they change it to boost percentage wise or increase the numbers of the stats that so give, then sp will actually matter and people will be more motivated to go feat hunt. I only have 162sp currently and I have no incentive to collect anymore. I've beaten throne many times along with every other raid in the game easily. So in this game are a joke tbh.

Yesterday, I was running numbers after a piss-poor HoH run where I had to Solo troll. I would check and recheck my skill trees trying figure out how to increase my Vit, without sacrificing Power Critical Heals and plummeting Dom. The only conclusion I came with, was that I had to start remodding gear from Vit/Dom to full Vit, otherwise there was no way I'd increase my Vit to a more satisfactory #. Unless, of course, I acquired more SP. I do understand that SP may feel worthless, but I really disagree. It's could be the difference between a very well-rounded character and a character that is mediocre.

As for powers and such, I have this friend (which I am getting tired of bringing her up lol), I've seen her spend what must be hours respeccing and experimenting loadouts. She recently switched to Ice from Quantum, and her DPS numbers were already off the charts (tanking she was also very good at). She maximized her damage as Quantum, and shared with me her loadout. Two things were clear, she didn't only have the SKILLS to come up with ridiculous power combinations, but the SP to make it work. Not only did I feel I didn't had the skill to replicate her power use, but because of the huge difference between SP, I'd find myself short of power, before completing the rotation. This is a person that boggles my mind with explanation on how to use powers (clip the first three, jump cancel the 4th power, skip, turn, flap your arms like a chicken and then quack.... Yes, that strange and complicated....). SP does make a difference

Its is always about about skill points. If you run into anyone that thinks differently, just add em to ignore and move on. Those players that don't believe in the importance of skill points should be black listed. #SkillPointsAreLife

Yes, but your comparison says nothing to MentosTroll's main point, which is that SP are less important than Power choice. So all you'd be proving that SP has some effect, which no one is actually disputing. It would be interesting to see how significant the difference is, compare the same player, same character with 200 SP, 150, 100, and 50. But it wouldn't answer this thread.
