Tell Devs Why you think DCUO is DPS Universe Online

    Sup all, ill start by saying iv played DCUO off and on for years and just got back into it recently, alot stuff has do with real life far as me not playing i really do love this game.
    Anywho on topic ,this game has no form or fashion in terms of showing a person their support role. You cant even turn into support till 10 which is ok,but even then like some mentioned you only get a ring no explination no nothing. I have come across level 30s i was helping run something and id tell a dps (a munitions) just to switch to troll toss out a POT every so often...response " Whats a troller and how do i switch?" i had to just sit there and shake my head. Sadly its really not the player i blame for this but the game.

    Also we are punished for playing support when comes to our solo challenges and missions,ya they still somewhat do able but take way way longer in support and top it off most have to completly spec different to do it in support role. Once we hit 30 we need have certain missions which revolve around our support role, such as haveing say our mentor follow us around in a mission and as a healer its our job keep him up through heals. As for a troller keep him powered and CC. Tank, have our mentor heal us somehow and job keep mobs off em. Just random ideas but thoughts to help try get people knowledge on support. I too think this would get people start see what a support role does and shoot some may even see it and be like hey this could be fun.

    And im also a vet from another game, not gonna mention which cause we all know starts hate on forums, but at endgame they actually have a "Trial" for roles even dps. Pretty much it puts u in a instance and gives u different scenarios were u gotta do mechanics to beat things, for healer you gotta position right and heal through stuff, tank it teaches u how avoid dmg,pull mobs into fire, avoid fire ex..and for dps teaches how to burn but also avoid dmg such fire on ground,mob attacks. Troll i imagine could be set up same way

    The point of the trials is u cant enter such things as dungeions/raids till you achieve a certain point in the trials thus showing u know ur role and mechanics to be somewhat knowledgeable once u enter. So say to enter a alert need to pass bronze, get raid need gold, and elite need plantinum.

    All in all great game it just really needs take a step back from this dps centric stuff and get the knowledge out there of the support roles and try encourage people to play them.

    If the devs (the people who create this game) need to be told by the playerbase that their game is entirely focused on one single role then I am playing the wrong game.

    They already know that this game caters to the dps role but their refusal to do anything about it shows me that dps-catering is their intent and after 4 years of not changing that formula, that will remain so.

    I think that this is a chess game. On one side you have the devs and some players who want the game to be played 2-2-2-2 or 1-1-1-1. On the other side you have a faction of players (possibly a majority) who are trying to figure out how to maximize the number of DPS in order to complete instances faster, i.e. 3-5 DPS for raids and 2-3 DPS for alerts. The latter have been winning. (Except for Throne and Throne Elite and some of the alerts early on like Them, Zam, Ava.) It seems as though the devs have accepted this.

    At a certain point it is no longer about the devs. As much as I have not liked their decisions with respect to WM, AM, AF2, and GU47 they cannot control player behaviour. It is a business and people have expressed how they want to spend their time and money. There is a faction who refuse to run content with 2 tanks or 2 heals, i.e. they want a 1-1-2-4 or 1-1-1-5 setup, even though sometimes when you take into account the number of wipes, the instances would have been completed quicker if they had gone in with a 2-2-2-2 or with max 3 DPS. Save making every raid like Throne or forcing groups to complete boss fights 2-2-2-2, i.e. no rewards if you run with more than 2 DPS, I am not sure what can be done about this. (Maybe get rid of WM and the power-back mechanic or lower vit or increase power costs so you require 2 trolls? Lower resto so you require 2 heals? Lower health and defense so you require 2 tanks?)

    Mechanics IMO is the #1 issue with this game. It seems like devs love to go to the 1 shot mechanic over and over and over again, to where its almost sad that they come up with all these different ways to 1 shot someone.

    Better mechanics is a must for this game to make a big comeback.

    Uh what,

    I don't get it....DPS's being carried....ok.

    The game has been Nintendo'd for far to long, so players lacking skills or on alt's with no ideal of how to use the power were able to power level there toons with great ease. 0-30 in hours to 114 2 days.

    Solo Healer has been soloing for at minimal 1 year unless they ran with a core group even longer.

    Tanks were always held to a high standard.

    DPS's too are held to this standard as a whole, groups using 5-1-1-1 to complete instance's are saying they need that burn to complete the instances we may disagree on that I guess.

    In theory as I see it,... Throne Elite Are's fight:

    2 Trolls can help the Tank with Are's and the adds but none do it. You may say it is not necessary(I agree), but it tell's me the lack of trolls knowing how and where to stun and Tanks being able to adjust targets needed to be pull + poor burn requires another burner.

    The mere fact that all those things are at play tells me that each person in there respective role are not that good at that role or they would be able to do it that way, yet most will say they are and only complete it with going with 2 Tanks for Throne(Are's) or later rounds in SM.

    My response was not to boaster or brag but to attempt to be realistic, though on these pages being called bad in negative terms one will become highly defensive due to the forum community attacks.

    Your last statement I agree with though, but I add if I had more confidence that others were capable of those sentiments rather than only having a concern about the damage done by dps's maybe we Trolls, Heals and tanks need to take a long look at our skill trees and spec our crits, role then damage and not just innates specific to healer Tanks some trolls, dom some healers, or resto some Tanks.

    We all need to step our game up, damage is not just dps's job we all contribute, like Tanks take on Troll job of CC'ing.

    I could be wrong though but if I only needed 1 other DPS for burn then I would be in that class that need only 2 DPS's for the raid run, it is an insult to bring in that extra DPS like having 3 Tolls for dox was for me, like saying I can't perform my job so I need extra help. lol

    gameplay revolves around DPS because WE as a community choose to play that way. We could easily play the game in a more balanced way. We simply choose not to in our chase for the scoreboard and ultra quick runs. The devs create the game but like any MMO it's an organic environment. Players have more of an effect on the way an MMO develops over time than we think we do.

    A nice incentive would be having 2 armories instead of 1. With 2 armories, people could change from dps -> support role, or support role-> dps builds with ease.

    To put it bluntly, the devs have better things to do than babysit us to make sure we're all playing nice with one another. On top of that, there would certainly be some that would look at any solution put forth by the devs to rectify some of the problems mentioned in this thread as heavy-handed or as hand-holding, and those solutions would take a while to make it to the actual game.

    We're there every day, in the game. We can act quicker to help rectify problems created by other players. We can teach those willing to learn off-DPS roles. We can actively discourage imbalanced groups and encourage the more balanced set-ups.

    You're right, fixing the poor behavior will not be easy, but BOTH sides of the equation need to put in some effort. There are things the devs can do, but there's also plenty the players need to do as well, starting with cleaning up the mess we made ourselves with some of our behavior. If you see something you think is a problem and can do something about it, step up and do something.

    I've said this before in similar threads, and I'll say it again: players are in the best position to help other players and solve player-created issues. We have it within our power to make a difference. But if a player sees something they consider to be a problem and can do something about it but does nothing, saying things like "It's not my job" or anything like that? As far as I'm concerned they've lost all rights to complain about it.

    And no, I'm not trying to single anyone in this thread out with that last paragraph. It's just one of my little pet peeves that can bring out my soapbox. :D

    I truly believe letting Quantum trump for so long has brought even more DPS to the table, it's all you see now!

    Dpsuo reasons and solutions-
    • Not having the option to switch roles during tutorial- give us the option
    • Both Ams and Wm increased damage were it became gamebreaking for all roles to compete- Mind you the gears in PvP are more Dps oriented, because of the absence of support specialized gears- bring back the support gears
    • The innated stats are less support oriented- Like Dominance 3 pp x6 is really low, I feel the innate trees should be the Am to support roles since Dps has both Am and Wm.
    • instances need more trap healing, power solving, crowd controlling for such time, and distracting 1 shotters, which is lacking in instances.
    • These burns from powers and weapons needs to be toned down to become balance with tanks, trollers and healers

    Honestly, I find the damage role to be the least attractive in the game, especially now, thanks to the AM that made many DpS powers extremely boring to use. It's not really the fault of the developers: the culprits are the players. People that approach the game with a scoreboard chaser mentality, a prima-donna attitude and without the will to play a more strategical role. Button smasher that enjoy steamrolling through the content without too many headaches, letting others to take the fall if something goes wrong.

    edit: a possible solution would be to incorporate the DpS side into the support role, meaning that a Quantum, for instance, would keep its damage and its rotation, but it would give power back while doing so. The same for Nature, doing DoT and HoT in the process and so on... the power itself would define your role in the team.

    as a fire tank i assure you i DO NOT WANT ONE TROLL BEHIND ME. i want 2 with plenty of power to cc and to also STUN THE CRAP OUTTA ALL THESE ADDS. i guess you know you can drop a troll and a healer and add dps because you have no "real" dps. why not cut out fire and earth tanks or make their life way harder for imaginary speed. one wipe just one and you lose the faster run. a good troll is keeping damage off the tank with stuns, keeps all group members safe with stuning stray adds and of course juice all of us up.

    solo trolling lol nature healer in your group? what powers were your dps as if we need 2 ask? if your solo trolling throne your not trolling as id feel confident with. IF YOU CANT PULL YOUR WEIGHT IN ELITE GO GET BETTER. sounds like alot of dps cant handle the burn

    Reread what I said, I mean try not to feel as though every person is attacking you then read it as an opinion, which is mine.

    I don't shout for specific roles nor CR, but on occasion when in a hurry will shout for players that at least know how to play.

    With that said take what you wrote and apply it to your argument then reply to yourself because it is what I said reworded.

    But fire tanks are already discriminated upon, because only really good fire tanks succeed with 5-1-1-1 setup.

    Correct,

    An the Developers embrace it an profit it from it as they see fit. Via, Two years of 90% DPS updates & changes.

    Its not just the community.

    Its the the developers themselves making the decision to continue and cater to the DPS aspects of the game. Its not having a tutorial for support roles and being DPS coming of the ship. There's many factors (WM,AM, High Health enemies, etc.) in this game that will lure you to like damage and only wanting to do more damage more then many other MMO's. The community will never change unless the game does.

    What happen to NPC's like Wing Armors and Omac Bots.

    Now its nothing but Lantern's with weapons, and Harpy's flying shooting arrows, an Guards, and Hoplites staff stunning you to death.

    Most of the reasons why I feel that this Game is centered on DPS has already been said.

    i surely hope however that they at least put in a tutorial for our support roles early on. Because if and when they ever decide on that new platform(Xbox) we will get a influx of players not being taught by the game about how to do the support role for the power they chose.

    The whole "Dominance=Aggro" controversy is just one example of the lack of information this game gives about roles. Aggro is hardly explained at all.

    The roleless buffs of course don't help the issue in alerts, but in raids you still see at least one of each role so no roleless buff occurring in raids.

    No real mechanics are in this game to challenge the support roles particularly healers with the amount of resto we have.
    I've mentioned things like player debuffs that reduce our effectiveness (reduce healing or power healing) to make us need an extra support role every now and again. Or a defense debuffs for tanks. These debuffs being applied by either special adds or bosses. The debuffs should be significant enough and not just some minor inconvenience for when you are healing. No, in fact, let's say healers or allies get a healing debuff and it has such an immense effect that you NEED a second healer. That's the situations I'm talking about. That's what I've been waiting on. But no, it would make instances too hard for 5-1-1-1 groups!
