Survival Mods is a waste

Actually I corrected myself. 38k completed a round. There were many more that tried and couldn't do round 1. I just don't have exact logs for that.

I think if you beat SM you should have gotten a 100 point feat stating - SM Survivor - making worth a bit more than a style...

The pool table also drops in OC 4 man ops.

If you don't want to run SM, then don't... It's meant as a challenge for those seeking one and the reward is only in the accomplishment.

That was all SM was ever meant to be and they told everyone that from the start. We have so many things that are a grind .. grind to get gear, grind to get feat, grind to find exobits and craft mod and now .. grind to earn prestige.

When Spytle and company put out the introductory video for Survival Mode they were very clear it was just something fun to do. There would be no armor sets available (just some t shirts for completing certain levels), no feats to grind to get and no significant payoff in marks.

The fact that people ARE obsessed with it should give you and the Dev team a heads up that from time to time the player base would like to have something to do that isn't a repetitive grind.. just fun to do. And just like everything else in game.. no one is forcing anyone to do it so if you think its boring or stupid.. DON'T DO IT.

Well in fairness some people get enjoyment and fun out of it, so it's not exactly the same as your comparison.

The people who really enjoy it, do so because they feel they are accomplishing something challenging. In life in general people should always do what they enjoy not because the reward at the end is the best, but because the task keeps them motivated and happy.

In the end, no actual video game provides anything truly meaningful beyond a sense of accomplishment
(maybe some thumb skills and enhanced visual perception)

It is suposed to give No Feats,No Marks, No Gear, No prestige... No nothing besides a Tshirt here and then,

And that's why it is a clever and welcoming idea, as for obsession, i hope you are not losing sleep over this

So it is like a Good Wine, you need a refined taste to truly enjoy it

Check points absolutely do work. Guild Wars 2 Fractal mode is proof of this. Players will gain rankings based on how far they have gotten previously. The difficulty level is chosen at the beginning by the party leader. All players are not required to be at the same level, but if they have not beaten up to that level, their reward will only be set based on their highest completion.

For example: a party leader can choose to start their group at Level 7 if they have completed Round 6. Those who have completed Round 6 can get the Level 7+ rewards, but those who have only beaten Round 4 (as their highest ever attempt) will start their reward cycle at 4. So when Round 8 is complete, those who started at Reward Level 7 (for completing 6 previously) get the Gold while those at Reward Level 5 would get the Bronze. Those at the lower Reward Level will not rank up unless they complete the rounds in sequence and their highest possible reward would be based on their highest possible sequential completion. This isn't exactly how GW2 works, but this is how I'd see it working here.

Longer breaks is not a viable option because this only serves to lengthen the time commitment. Of course the lower levels are not a huge time commitment. If the goal is only to get a Bronze, then no worries. That's easy, but once it gets to 5+ each fight gets significantly longer.

I clicked on this topic in the hopes of there being a decent point being brought up. Now I am depressed. SM was never meant to be something that people had to run but rather for the people that wanted a challenge for the sake of a challenge. If you do not understand that skill is developed through practice and the difficult of the practice then there is nothing we can discuss.

If you think that the people running SM are doing so at the expense of intentionally helping "lowbies" you are sadly mistaken. People run lowered tier content for marks, items, and prestige. They will still help out friends as needed. People are running SM for the challenge. 2 very different reasons for running 2 very different types of instances.

I was really hoping that the complaints about SM would have been more about how the prototype was done as I believe SM has much more potential than we've seen. I think SM would be much better if the rounds were quicker, the entrance requirement was lower, there were more rounds, and the max difficulty was significantly higher. It would also be nice if you could either choose your starting point or your starting point was chosen for you based upon the groups CR. I have no issue with the dev's having the same few fights and have them repeat but at a higher CR each time. But to simply say that SM was a waste because you received no feats, marks, or prestige is simply short sighted and not understanding what the community asked for.

I am not sure how this would work with SM. Can you give some suggestions on how it could be implemented? From what I've seen SM requires a ridiculous amount of time so I am all for some sort of difficulty selector/ check point.

Its for fun. Theres always a point when people are having fun.

I have no real use for the seasonals anymore, and I try to get it over with as quickly as possible, doesn't mean I consider it a waste because I don't find enjoyment out of it.

I have nothing against SM. It's fun to play and, for me; it's fun to watch others. Keyword here is fun. It gives higher

tiers something to do in between DLC's.

With that said, all the sudden I see leagues/groups rallying around SM saying it promotes teamwork, communication

and commitment. My question is why can't this same teamwork, communication and commitment be applied to

Arenas; at least between DLC's? Would they not provide challenge and promote teamwork, communication and

teamwork while also providing progression(to a point)?

Again love SM I just wish that that same zeal would crossover to something that is already in the game. Sure there

are imbalances in PVP that are hopefully being worked on; but, wouldn't that imbalance be just another challenge?

    Not hating, just curious.

I'd say for every 2 rounds there should be a check point. Check points are granted for beating both levels in one sitting. So you complete Rounds 1 and 2. The next time you come in, if you are the Party Leader, you can select the difficulty level of 2. This would start the group in Round 3. For 10 Rounds you would have 5 possible difficulty levels.

So, say you can't go onto Round 3 because of time. The group can go. Every member now has the ability to form a group that can start at Round 3.

Now, with the difficulty level, there would also be a reward level to prevent players from only grouping with higher leveled players to get top rewards. Reward levels would be granted at the same time as difficulty levels.

There's a group forming for difficulty 3, but your current difficulty level and reward level are only 2. You can join that group for experience or something fun to do, but the highest reward you could receive is the reward that would be granted in difficulty 2 range based on your reward level (so you'd be doing Rounds 5/6 for the reward of Rounds 3/4 - the Bronze) while those who already completed the difficulty level of 2 and were onto 3 would get Silver.

Skipping levels like this will not allow you to increase your difficulty or reward level. Those are only increased when completing the next Rounds in your sequence. So you'd have to complete Rounds 3 and 4 to be eligible for the Silver regardless of if you beat higher Rounds.

Uhm you know that nobody is holding a gun on your head and force you to play SM right?
  17. Jamie New Player

I'm not so sure I agree about the rewards but the levels sound interesting. What would happen in the case where a person that never ran SM joins a group that starts off on level 7 and then completes through level 9 because they were carried. Can this person now start a group at level 7? What I see happening would be that we would see shout outs for group leaders to have completed level x so everyone else could skip them. Maybe if you could only choose up to the lowest level completed by everyone on the team?

I liked the challenge myself, as it required that everybody do their jobs and use every trick up their sleeve. Any weaknesses were exposed right away. The scoreboard's importance was diminished to the point of being nearly irrelevant. I had the pleasure of seeing some outstanding players performing at a high level, which has inspired me to work even harder at improving my skills. Good times.

No, the was the point I made about sequential progression. They can only increase their difficulty/reward levels through linear, sequential progression. No increase to these levels occurs if they skip.

I'd be afraid by basing it on the lowest member's completion this would only push players forward leaving many players in the dust.
