Subscription with Loyalty Points!

Has there ever been discussion around potentially making it where you can use Loyalty points to purchase your monthly subscription? When I think about this, a few games come to mind:

    1) Although not an MMORPG, Fortnite allows you to accrue 1,000 V-Bucks per season if you subscribe to the Battle Pass for $10. So essentially, you but the initial Battle Pass for $10, and as long as you are diligent with your V-Bucks and don't purchase marketplace skins, etc. and get to level 100, you can pay for the next season's Battle Pass with your V-Bucks you've earned from playing.

    2) Neverwinter - Through gameplay, you can actually make enough Zen/Astral Diamonds to use in order to renew your monthly subscription.

I'm just thinking that although it takes money out of the pocket of Daybreak immediately, it may actually be beneficial in the long run. Players are playing more in order to get their sub for free and I'd assume most would spend money on other things in the game (i.e. replay badges) to make sure they got their monthly sub "for free".

I may be way off base here, but it's working for Neverwinter and its DEFINITELY working for Fortnite- as they made an estimated $296M .... in the MONTH of April.

Fortnite is a new game packed with kids. Dc is an 8 year old game not packed with anything. They’ve enough trouble holding onto the current player base as it is. They are in end-game stage. Milking the remaining customers until no longer viable.

If people stopped buying all the gimmick stuff - the doors would be shut in a heartbeat on this game. It could never survive on subs.

They are not going to do ANYTHING that involves the company losing money for long term gain - Because they don’t see a long term.

What makes you say they are in an "end-game" stage? people were saying that years ago when they merged PS and PC... but here we are years later...

People are always saying that crap, the same people who continually stick around a 'supposedly dead' game, with the usual 'excuse' of "Just want to see if anything has changed"

He's not in a good league and has to rely on pug runs. Also he recently made a couple threads about how slow the queues are for lower tier so in his mind that equals dying population.

Not working for DC. The two games mentioned are apples while DC is an orange. ;)

Well... yeah! That’s exactly what constitutes a dying population. Unable to do things you previously could due to lack of numbers. Before I stopped playing back in February, queuing was hard, But manageable. Now - not one week has went by that I’ve been able to run all the content I’ve needed or wanted. That’s still asking on LFG etc.

Also... there’s nothing in place to entice back older players, or new players to the game. There’s no fixing of portal bugs, amongst many bugs that've existed for years. When I joined in late 2014 - you couldn’t see the ground in central hub there was that many people kicking each other up and down. The devs still participated. Little Bohemia just looked chaotic with the amount of people. Now you have 17 people stood in it daily, who rarely move. LB has about the same number. It’s a chatroom! As I type this - the shout chat in the WT has moved once in about 30-40 mins. Some girl asking for a league.

Gaming companies seeing a drop in numbers or sales etc will address these things. They’ll want to understand what’s going on, why are numbers dipping? All that’s done here - is put new shiny mats, auras and artifices into the game to milk the remaining customers. So yeah... I can very firmly saying with great conviction that there’s a very dying population within DCUO EU servers. Can’t talk for the US.

Dunno if that was aimed st me; but I’ve just returned after being away since February (well... returned a month now) I certainly don’t return to see what’s changed. I got bored with other games - came back because I know it passes time with grinding (or it used to) I subbed like I always did, 3 months worth. It won’t be renewed! as there’s nothing to keep me here that doesn’t involve spending rlm (which I’ve pumped obscene amounts into this game) I enjoy playing - but can’t get to play what I want/need mostbthe time. It would be insane to continue. So... I’ll get my monies worth from my sub, and mosey on.

I will admit that Fortnite is a stretch to compare - but Neverwinter is very similar to DCUO. Aside from gameplay, etc, its an MMORPG that has a monthly sub.
  12. TheLorax 15000 Post Club

If the game was truly dying they wouldn't keep pumping out new episodes, game mechanics, new NPC's, paid voice actors etc. The population is there they just need to add those new shiny mats, auras and artifices to older content and entice people to go back. But we've gotten this thread off track and no one here has personal access to DB's finances to validate their opinion.

Sounds like you need to find a league man. Get into an active one and you will be able to run content whenever you want.

Yes - I would like to actually discuss what I posted in the OP... has there ever been a discussion regarding what I asked? Or do they simply reply with the canned "not at this time"?
  15. TheLorax 15000 Post Club

I don't think anyone has ever asked and I'm not sure how what you are suggesting would fit for PC. Their membership benefits are different than console.

Didn't Mepps just mentioned a few days ago that the event content (i.e. scaled episode content) is the content with the lowest queue times and the highest player participation?
The players are there, they are just not that much into Endgame Content.

I haven't talked to many of them but there are several out there who just like the DC universe, like the stories, switch powers from time to time and just like easy and visually appealing content.

It is save to say that the competitive scene in DCUO has been in decline over the past few years. I remember how many active leagues loved the challenge of Origin Crisis but since then several things drove them away. Mainly (that's just my perspective though) the reasons were the ease of content that followed OC. Sure at some point there were time capsules but I don't quite believe that they were the main cause. Compared to how easy normal and some elite content is in my opinion (from a competitive point of view), this has would bug me more than some statpoints I can get from Time Capsules. What can I do with my many SP when I don't even need two hands to finish content?

The casual scene though? I'm not sure. There are plenty of players out there and queue times are in fact fast(er)-ish (cool word) for all the dlc events.

As for the OP's question: It would be....okay I guess since I really can't remember when I last saw a DBC sale. So if it would make purchases easier (I heared some countries mostly accept only credit cards - not sure if true), I wouldn't even see an issue. The amount spent to get DBC is similar to what you would spend on an X-month-subscription. But maybe they would need to adjust the pricing of DBC or make it so that DBC-purchased subscription does not give you RBs and DBC...

An idea I always thought Daybreak should implement that other games utilize are Subscription Tokens. These tokens can be traded/sold to other players via in-game currency or items. The reason this is a win-win for Daybreak and the Players is because the players will dictate how much these tokens are worth as far as in-game cash/items are concerned and Daybreak makes more money per subscription because they would charge $4.99 more than a normal membership cost. It would essentially work like this:

    Monthly Subscription - $14.99

    or

    Subscription Token - $19.99

Players could then trade these Tokens to other players for in-game cash or items and upon consuming the token they would get 1 month of membership added to their account. I could easily see this being limited to platforms though (PC can't trade/sell these to PS players and visa versa). However, in the end, it generates more revenue for Daybreak while also allowing players who want to play for free (essentially) do so, as they could farm out the money needed for a token each month.

Hey now - i'm not doing ALL of Daybreak's job unless I'm collecting a check haha. Some of the stuff they're gonna have to figure out.. :)

Ther must be a reason why DBG added Krono to Everquest 2, but nothing similar to PS2 or DCUO.
  20. LadyLightning Issue Tracker Volunteer

Krono costs start at $16,99 and max out at $17,99.

They can't be bought with DBC and I don't think they grant DBC.
