    Spontaneous Combustion:

This ability was recently changed from an AOE burning move with ticks, to an AOE burst move.

    My question is:

Now that you have 2 identical moves: Spontaneous Combustion and Detonate, will you balance them?

As of now, they both do roughly the same damage with Spontaneous Combustion being AOE. Thus a player would never use Detonate.

Anyone else familiar with this issue?

Spont is our best move now pretty much.
Wildfire and spont go hand and hand the aoe range seem to be the same on the 2 powers

They are not identical at all.

Spont. is AOE with a 45% modifier and still has it's procs after the initial damage. it is superior in AoE situations and more beneficial in most situations due to the 45% modifier

Detonate can probably net more damage in a boss fight... maybe. less power more assuredly and faster animation.

    I agree with TO btw.
Need to run more tests on the damage but certainly less power for similar or the same damage on a single target

The difference is the AoE. AoE powers in this game are wonky IMO. When hitting a single target most of your aoe powers will hit for the same as your single target powers. But depending on how many targets you hit the dmg per target goes down on aoe powers.

In some instances that have mechanics that require you to do dmg to 1 target faster then another you would want that single target option. If you are doing Nexus and want a specific combination at the end you will want to use more single target powers then just spaming aoe powers.

Basicly it is there for a reason.

As fire against single targets WM is needed to do good dps, but as far as multiple targets the AM is most useful but it does drain the power. Personally I prefer to use both WM and the AM, it saves on power and the damage is still good.

That's the thing - I did test it.

They do the same damage on a single target.
  8. TrueOlympus New Player

if so than Spont is still more beneficial. 45% mod
  9. Opamp Committed Player

    That's what I'm saying.

I couldn't wrap my head around it so that's why I posted this thread. Maybe other fire users could weight in. Why would they design a power which is "strictly better".

I understand that Detonate deals more damage than Fireball - but Fireball applies burning, and Detonate needs a burning target to deal more damage. THAT makes sense.

Having a single target move that doesn't do more than an AOE move (with the approx same cast speed/cooldown) is just silly.

    My three conclusions are:
    1. The devs made this decision without realizing it makes detonate obsolete
    2. The devs did realize the change, and figured no one was using detonate
    3. The devs figure that SC should be better since it's at the bottom of the tree, forcing less people to skill it.

Detonate is a 35% mod. and Spont. Combustions is 50%

for some reason SC wasnt hitting for crap with WM for me today. in the 2k range with the locked in 60%, fiery weapon and enemies on fire. yesterday i was hitting around 5k easily. anyone else seeing this?

one is available with two PPs, the other requires 5.

my impression is that detonate does a bit more dmg on single target
