SP individually gained, hmm?

I was having a discussion with some league mates and they happen to come to something that I told them would bring to the forums.

One of them said "skill points shouldn't rely on a group because you don't get a group point, skill points are based on you".

They were saying also that the way the system is now is flawed because as those who return come back to a game only to find what most have mentioned before.

The game is not friendly when trying to catch up for a couple of reasons.

Players returning find that it is a game that is not so friendly, the community as it is right now on the lower levels is non existent and unskilled. When they group up higher CR players don't know basics and then there are the players who troll the lower CR groups.

The other problem is the fact that some SP are based on a group effort when the SP don't affect a team, but how you affect the team and rely on a group to gain.

One specifically mentioned when they form a group with the known objective of going for a feat with everyone knowing what they are going for, there is always that 1 guy/gal who does not care about the feat but joined the group just to complete the content.

My opinion is they have a point, coming back you do need a partner or someone to run with to help you catch up with duo's and alerts. The lower feats while getting players that maybe trolling or unskilled is always a crap shoot, but I also agree with them that the current way does not exactly encourage players to want to get SP's.

Now I know that SP has its negative group on here and I am not speaking on if good or bad.

What I hope to get out of the discussion is if SP were individual based to gain would it better?

Individual based-based on you alone...i.e...No death feat being based on you surviving in totd and not on the group... As an example.

    Let's begin.

I don't disagree, but it's a little late to change everything now.

The mistake was made when they decided to base character power on feats to begin with. Anyone could see how that system would eventually lead to the situation we have now.

Having SP based on an achievement system was one of the bigger mistakes dcuo made. They should have been based on experience points you get for completing content. Feats should have rewarded something else like styles for completing a whole section. Like BP said though, it's far too late to change anything now.

Is that really how FF 14 works? That was just a suggestion, lol

No. I was referring to how FFXIV completely changed their game to fix it after the initial failure.

Imagine a stats revamp that actually revamped the game...

Group feats are just that... requirements that people in the group play their roles and do their jobs. When one person fails, the group fails.

If any5hing, feats should be separated into categories like, “Earned over time just by grinding” and “Proof of playing ability/ability to work as a team.” The first group are basically gimmes. Everyone can eventually earn them by doing the repetitive tasks (daily grinds, completing collections, style completions, etc) and have precious little to do with actual playing skills. The second group will involve some mechanics... whether it’s to complete certain tasks in certain orders, prevent a boss from gaining special abilities, allow a boss to get just this side of invulnerable, fight different combinations of bosses, etc., and actually help prove your playing abilities.

The other problem is where they put most of the SP.

This current episode did what they always should have done. Some 1-,2- and 3-star feats in solo content, duos, etc. well distributed.

In past episodes, virtually all 3-star feats are always tied to the raids, making it uber-difficult to grab them. Solo, duo and alert content is made up of entirely 1- and maybe 2-star feats. Not a great idea to make it required to coordinate with 7 other people to get important feats. With ones like speed runs and face this boss and this boss, etc., it's not hard, but stuff like the the path feat in Labyrinth are a nightmare these days just because it only takes one person to mess it up.

SP system works just fine. I took a break of almost 3 years and i didn´t have any issues to gain SP even after starting fresh on a new PC account.

The people complaining about the system are the ones that don´t care at all to play as a team, join a League or put some effort to make their characters better.

    You are so funny.

LoL, do you not know there is a thread right now that says the event is to hard, basically for the unskilled.

You obviously know what is going on in this thread when I even said league mates, of which they have one than enough SP, to boot.

I get that there are those that don't like SP and I agree they should find some friends, but the game is full of players that are just as toxic to the game as what you imply in your post.

Seriously you have been stuck in a bygone era that has been dumbed down in the interests of players who do not take advantage of the game.

I bring to you a topic to be discussed and some how you manage to take it as a they are basically bums thread or a thread to dump personal feelings of how you feel about those that do not see SP your way.

Moving on I am not asking for a change just a discussion about it, it maybe a bad idea, I don't know all I said to my league mates was I would bring it to the forums.

Every idea don't have to be a request, but an idea could possibly be something worth looking into.

    SMH.

Well I Believe something like what I've Posted in a Thread I Created awhile ago, could Work. The Thread is Called (New SP Progression Suggestion + Upgrade Trait).

Either something like that or Similar should Work. But Perhaps the Developers already have something Planned. They are looking into ways to Add New Progression into the Game. So we will find out what that may be in a Future Update as the Game Continues to Progress.

    Haven'T read through all responses.

The game is a multiplayer game. So it makes sense that teamwork is needed for many feats. If you want to play a game alone play other games.
On the other side I agree with catching up and the community or the flawed system of SPs and how they work overall.. But having feats tied to teamwork makes sense. ;)

    No.

Group fears encourage teamwork, communication, and co-operation.

It's true that some ppl are helpful, while others are not. That's just a fact of life.

A significant, and often overlooked part, of MMO's is socialization. Meeting new people & building relationships.

If a player is only interested in feats/achievments they can get on their own, without the need to be a contributing member of a group, maybe they should rethink playing an MMO & go back to single player games.

I don't disagree but, having SP related to a group skill then applied to your own individual stats does sort of seem strange, at least to me it does.

There viewpoint was that stats that you gain are your stats and shouldn't be beholden to how others are for you to earn stats.

I also see the teamwork feats help develop more skills especially with heals, tanks, and trolls, potentially adding another potential challenge or something relatively new to content other than just going after gear.

They referenced other games I just don't see how other games are related to the topic being that is those games and that is how they do it.

But traditionally players have always levelled or go extra boost or earn power points/skill points in traditional games as an individual not as a group.

Which could be another flaw of DC, but I am not sure it is a flaw either.
  16. lordexecution365 Loyal Player

I don't believe I was asking for a change but for us to discuss it.

So OK your saying you don't want to discuss it, cool.
  17. lordexecution365 Loyal Player

I don't think that is a mistake every game has a similar system.

The true mistake was stopping the levelling at level 30.

Incorrect. I'm disagreeing with your position & providing my reasons.

You stated your position & reasoning, I stated my position & reasoning. Pretty sure that meets the minimum qualifications for a discussion.

You then replied to my comment, and I have now replied to yours.

    Yep, it's officially a discussion.
