impaling thorns is range? I always thought it was melee.. what am I missing here?

Thank you very much for this guide. I started this game specifically to be a nature healer and this has helped me leaps and bounds. I've been doing so well in my 4-man groups so far (low level obviously) and I've been referring to this as I level up and learn more about the game.

    Thanks again!

You are probably thinking of Thorn Burst (used to be Thorn Shield). It is a spiky sphere that radiates from you. Impaling Thorns is a channeled trait with thorns sticking in the NPC (or this is how it is intended to be). The animation misleads you in the range. From the animation you would think it would be a close-mid trait but can actually be used at full range. I believe it is the only finisher without a beam so is that where the confusion came from?

While I personally think the information here is useful don't be put off with your own experimentation. Guides generally show you optimal usage of the powerset (even though the discussion does show you several other ways to play). In every MMO I have played I have used guides as reference but never as "I must do it this way approach." Try to find your own way to play too. I am sharing this just in case you are not already thinking about it :)

Oh yes for sure! I've been tweaking my loadouts a little differently as I learn more about how things work and what skills suit my taste. It's just nice to have that base to work up from. Reading the skills in game I was a little more than lost I'll admit (What's pheromones, do I care about those?) so finding this was a wonderful start on my adventure. Now I've been feeling a lot more confident when I get into groups for Alerts. I always hate that new player feeling.

Yeah I think the animation is what has confused me all along. Thanks for the clarification.

Hi all. This is a great guide i recently started up with DCUO been trying out all the powers and finally picked up nature and gave it a shot and its actually alot of fun :). The thing is im really not much fan on this WM stuff i know to be competative you need it from what everyone says but it think it should be more about what you have fun with and enjoy and just find a league that you all know and feels same when they game i mean ya i know you need to do awsome dps but i believe it still can be achieved without just WM and 2 abilties like everyone does i that just seems so dull to me lol. So i was curious of a good loadout that has some nice aoe to it to use thats might based and i could build around. I had looked at the DoT build and been working on it but iv also been looking at like a terror build. With Impailing thorns, serpents call, chaotic growth, vorocias plants but i dont know what else to put on the load out honestly. I was thinking adding maybe hive mind and neo venom boost or robot sidekick but unsure.

I know nowhere near a great load out but i figured use serpent call set up the terror effect, then vorocias plants to benefit from it for some good aoe dmg and impailing for burst same with chaotic SC but as far as everything else im unclear still got so much to learn on this game so any advice/tips id greatly appreciate and ty. Great guide Sore :). See you all in game!

Before you put WM off completely, maybe there just hasnt been a weapon you've come across that you enjoy using yet. If you'd like to go with the traditional stacking of dots, i wouldnt bother with the terror side of nature. There's a lot of setup when it comes to stacking dots and in the heat of battle, you can not always keep them refreshed. You may need to pick up allies, get knocked out, or obtain an objective. Before my switch to WM and terror, i was using: Vine Lash, Briar, Swarm, Harvest, one of the supercharges, Hive Mind, and Carnage. The weapon i used was a shield.

Rotation(if i remember correctly): hold range, vine lash+clip w/ carnage, hold range, Briar+clip w/ hive mind, Hold range, swarm, full weapon mastery combo, harvest.

After harvest is cast, i just kept swarm, hive mind, and carnage on cooldown as much as i could while throwing harvest at the end of just about every WM combo(shield is a very long combo). Hope that helps a bit.

You will be able to get off more than 1 Weapon Mastery combo unless you use Martial Arts or Shield ranged. 3 for 2 step combos and 2 for 3 step combos. Also you should really consider dropping Hive Mind for Savage Growth. If you don't you might as well use a Terror based rotation. To keep up with Terror you need all 3 Poison Spores and Swarm.

But yes in general Weapon Mastery can be thought of as any other weapon combo. The basic idea is to fit at least 2 combos inside of your 11 second refresh window (you need to refresh by the 11th second even though they last for 12 seconds). Nothing much has changed for Nature with Weapon Mastery. The only difference is you will add in different kinds of combos. If anyone liked Nature before Weapon Mastery they will like it afterwards given that they find the weapon they like using. :)

with both chaotic growth and carnivorous plants being a 50% supercharge now which one out of the 2 would you nature guys say is better?

I'm making a terror based loadout and im a stickler for making every point matter, which means grabbing and using one of those supercharges in route to voracious plants. I plan on testing them both later tonight but I wanted to see if i could get a recommendation before then.

Chaotic Growth. Carnivorous Plants really did not get any changes other than the cost.

Here are the changes about Nature SuperCharge on GU32

when I use Chaotic Growth, I put everything in place to maximize damage, I'm able to crit about 24k on the first hit & I have already seen hit of 18k on next ticks :p I have a little over 5100 might

cool. also is anyone here using savage growth to dps? seems risky.
  15. Superskull85 Devoted Player

Yes you should be able to easily get it off. Bosses do far less dangerous attacks than many thinking when approach from the back. In fact in the new content you can use melee if you really wanted to. I find that players in general are scared of getting close to a boss if they are not Tank for reasons that are for the majority of bosses is an invalid reason. Don't get me wrong there are some bosses that have deadly close area attacks but even those have openings allowing you to use Savage Growth. Players just need to get over this mentality of "close = dead" as for the most part this is largely untrue as long as you attack from the back.

A group I was in last night had someone confused at the fact that another group member was using Savage Growth. That same person laughed at a Healer using Harvest (which I secretly did that run) when both are valid options for the respective roles. The person in question did not realize how safe it is to use Savage Growth, that Harvest as a Healer no longer spreads other players Poison Spores and that Harvest is just as good as Blossom's largest group heal without the side effects. He actually didn't even know Harvest heals to begin with.

There is a lot of unfounded ingrain of misinformation in the community. If you have an idea try it for yourself. You'll be surprised how well it might work and how wrong the perception is. :D

P.S. You will always want Savage Growth. You will need all 3 Poison Spores and Swarm to keep up with someone using a proper Terror loadout. Do not skip on using any part of Nature's Awesome Mechanic if you go that route.

So is there any reason then to use Blossom over Harvest as a healer?
  17. Superskull85 Devoted Player

Blossom is easier to get to compared to Harvest power point wise and it does give greater healing due to it also has a single, bigger heal on yourself and the lowest group member. Blossom can also clip out of another heal while Harvest cannot. In addition Blossom costs less Power. Harvest costs more but applies a set of Pheromones (shared with Metabolism) and equals the secondary heal of Blossom. You can target better with Blossom because of the difference.

So yes Blossom is still useful given your build, speed and single target requirements.

Thanks for the detailed response. Basically it looks like it's all situational as to whether you use harvest of blossom.

So i've been out of the loop for a bit but the best loadout for the new raids seems to be SG, VL, Briar, Carnage, Harvest and Swarm. The terror and VP loadout is ok but 3 poisons and swarm definitely do more damage. And weapon of choice for me is Hand blasters to explosive shot.

    Whats everyone else running...just curious.
