Im kinda stunned. Havent been able to play consistently and decided to make a couple of new characters. So i got to tier one and have been trying to do tiers on my atomic tank... and i havent been able to finish one. Mostly cus of 2 reasons 1: High levels in low tiers. I dont REALLY find this as a problem. its gonna happen. But when it happens like for like like 15 times out of 20 or so its just like, wow. Only reason i have a real problem with it is cus i like to, idk, get a feel for my role. Cant really do that if im carried all the way can i? So i just simply leave and try again. 2: Inadequate teams. Not saying that im better then them, But like, wow. In some cases its people who go afk and some people who dont know how to use their roles. others who decide to not fight in the boss fight and ...for some reason hide. I mean i was in wachtower containment a while ago and came in to a half finished run with 2 dps and a controller. They were stuck on the big robot spider thing. Then i, the tank joined, and after 15 or so minutes of grueling repetition we finally beat him. It took that long because the dps was insufficient due to them using there weapons 80% of the time and their powers about 20%. they didnt kill the mini spiders that kept restoring its health .it was...rly tiring. Point is, this game really needs a better way to people about there roles. Cus with the amount of highh crs that join low tiers these people wont even have enough experience in there respective power and roles. Some without a doubt start to depend soley on those high tiers entering to help them. then we get high cr players who dont know jack squat about thier roles or powers.
Hell, some people don't ever learn their role. I was in dpr 2 days ago with an ice dps who was using her weapon and only her weapon. She would pop 3-4 powers and she got ice armor and just ised her weapon until her ice armor wore off. I asked why she's doing that and not ag and I get shot with "shut up dude she's only been playing for 2 weeks". This "ice" dps was cr149. I quit playing until they kicked me. Her friends apparently wouldn't teach her so I told her and I only teach if someone asks me or they are lower level and they ask me. I EXPECT people to know their roles when they are in end game content. If you are learning a role then group with league mates or friends who'll help you out and guide you while you're in that instance.
i did make that thread, about you know making that side mission before you get to 30 to teach players how to do their support role.
Devs wont support that. The time complexity of it and the gravity of the mission per role takes a considerable amount of time. So much so if they wanted such thing they would have started working on it last year. Plus at the most it would only teach the basics. For healers it would be simple things like a priority heal and shields. For tanks it would be simple things like single target taunt and 1 particular group pull. For controllers it would simple things like recharge and PoT. ^ The problem with this tutorial while it would take alot to make. It is also very lacking. The healer one does not cover HoT, and AoE heals that effect NPCs. While the tank one does not go into each detail about how dom is magnified nor how shields are calculated, nor how the tank powerset actually mitigates damage. For controlling it does not cover things like debuffs and when to use them or how they affect different types of enemies. And the game doesnt even teach dps how to perform their AM. Thus reason why you see dps who are in the 150+ who dont even know how to use their AM or even WM at that. WM is not taught because the new player doesnt have enough skill points at launch to perform such. Most new players dont have enough SP to spec into WM until they are in T4 or late T5. And if there was a detailed tutorial it would have to be updated with each powerset they add. Honestly at this point in time. Depending on what power you are, there best bet is sending people information with AM, WM, and detailed role information via the mail at certain levels.
You have to ask yourself. How much information is available to the players in game? At the beginning? At lvl 15? at lvl 30? at CR80? at CR160? As much as I hate to say it. Stat clamping the on duty menu is needed and walkins need to be implemented. However that wont happen anytime soon because devs depend on high CR players in low level content to carry the new players to endgame so they can buy the latest episode thus increasing the endgame population.
I have to state just recently I got an email with links to the this website where some of these links had links to YouTube for explanation on said role/power. I was WOW! that is a step in the right direction. But that is only if you sing up to get the email. Now if the devs did this for level 10...Player automatically is warp (unless in an instance, once he or she is out of the instance the warp would happen) to a training area to learn said role. What POT is etc..Player powers and SP would be unassigned and the game would direct the player on how to allocate both. Same can be said when they hit level 30 for DPS role and the AM. This needs to happen to improve the gaming experience. I was in BN with a 150+ DPS who was Atomic that was not using the AM but was using a bunch of Iconic powers and was behind me as the healer in damage and he was just happy not to be last. I sent him a tell and a website URL to checkout to get better. Two days later I get a TY from said player. This game needs a better way to educate the player base.
They also can put Booster Gold ( or any of them ) in this tutorial and they give you instructions to heal, troll or tank. He would fight with you together. Or make it separate from this tutorial start from Lv30..
But we all know that people all want to skip EVERYTHING in the game as it is. Do you really think anyone would even bother with a tutorial? I already asked this once, and I knew the answer. It is not worth the time to even write one, much less integrate it in the game. It would be the biggest waste of time that this game offered. Basically, if people cannot ever read the most basic things in the game and complain about a popup menu, then there is no hope that they would ever read a tutorial. Remember, people complain if a raid takes more than 20 mins.
Tutorial is probably not the best idea but we need something for this " problem" . The developer alone knows what is possible or not, make it simple but/and informative.
oh the devs tried adding a blocking/breaking mechanic tutorial in the brainiac ship but removed it because people were "struggling" and left the game before bothering to learn to play the pretty much most basic mechanic in the game. this signals that the devs would rather fill the game with ignorant players than weed any out. money money money MONEY... MONEY.
o, so thats what happened. i was wondering what happened there. Honestly, in all seriousness, that was a horrible decision. Even though it didnt really matter in pve, still a poor decision. it was better then nothing. Also if people SERIOUSLY coudnt even understand that,,,,then they should real reconsider some things.
Sadly as it is, it's true. A lot of people don't learn simple mechanics as block breaking. I fought multiple lowbie toons in arenas, and I won simply because I kept on the node and held the block button.
You started the post with an intro that you went back to do this with new characters, and that you were stunned to see the results. But, I don't see anything new that wouldn't've been the case when you leveled your first character. I don't disagree that the game lacks a lot of information not only about how to play but, I'd add, it also lacks information about the basic elements you see on the screen. At the same time, I fail to see how leveling an alt nowadays would be an enlightening experience unless you were leveled by a friend the first time around.
yeah its bad I remade a toon the other day pretty much long range my way through. At that part where it used to teach you about blocking (just read the screen so I don't see how people missed that) they have no shields now and the room afterwards there seems to be a Bot missing the one at the other end right before you get to the exit to the next room. And the damage seems to be beefier too. I still think it was more than players not knowing how to get out of their area. It is just the best excuse, but I don't know the data but can only guess that lol.
Well the data is skewed a bit, since I know a lot of people that have characters in the ship still, only to hold a name. They have them saved for when a new power comes out, or they feel like playing a canon. So it might look like they are stuck on the tutorial for 3 years, when in fact, they are not even trying.
the devs would honestly rather have people uninterested in learning basic mechanics [who they IMAGINE are spending money but lemme tell you... if you can't learn to block for the game??? you're not ******* spending a dime on the game] than exclude them. CR ruling all is same thing. you can coast on someone else's work, get the gear and "be LEET".
this was the dev's reasoning for pulling the tutorial. the chase for money absolutely cannot be stopped by someone actually having to learn and become part of the game.
THIS. because the game caters to players not having to learn or invest anything in playing... you get a lot of button mashers, "shut up and play", "i have a life", and "i'm only here while mommy/wifey fixes dinner because i don't have money to spend on another game".
