I just want a general idea of why skill points are important in DCUO like what benefits will they give me overall?
  2. Drake Malice Dedicated Player

They arent important, they give extremely minor increases to stats when you have huge numbers of them. They are most useful in order to get multiple Weapon Masteries. People have just fooled themselves into thinking they make you noticeably better at the game so they use them as a "measuring stick" when doing high-tier content

ok thx for clearing that up

You need to get enough to fill out your Crits. Beyond that is just extra frosting on the cupcake.

They matter up to a point, around 77, that can get both WMs if needed and some stat boost............after that the impact falls off dramatically.

Yeah, cause +75 Might & Precision PER WEAPON is completely useless  Not to mention all the + on Crits and Weapon Mastery (and that's just for DPS).

OP, don't listen to this kind of response. Some people are butt hurt about skill points because they don't have a lot and don't feel like putting in the effort to get more.

so they are really just important for DPS's? ok now im really confused
  10. TybeeTahiri Devoted Player

    Nope.o_O

I said "Crits" which refers to Crit Damage, Crit Power, Crit Healing, etc. Not DPS specific at all.

It's a new member asking for help and guidance. If you don't like it, don't open the topic. Sour grapes.

Well, kinda. While you are correct that they give relatively poor statistical increases, they are not unimportant or have had their importance over blown. Let's look at the math of the matter for 2 seconds:
You and I have the same gear.
We are both top Tier 6 fully modded with Tier 6 Expert mods of the same type.
Now, we are both the same power, same role, same gear.
    You have 159 Skill Points
    I have 100 Skill Points

Regardless of the roles we are or the power we are, you will be 'better' at your role than I would.
The reason being you would be able to support your power and role with higher Resto, Vit, Dom, or Might/Precision.

So let's say we are both Trolls.
Our gear puts us at (made up number) 10,000 Vit each.
With the extra 59 SP you have you would easily be able to give back more power and do more CCing than I would.
You could have the ability to have several hundred Vit more than I would (this is taking into account that you would be buying the larger boosts at the bottom which are normally associated with Weapon Mastery.

Another way SP can be very useful is for a DPS. The Crit Chance and Crit Damage increases are not small. They can take a middle of the road DPS and make him a scorecard topper.
I do not in any way shape or form condone the Scorecard. It is a horrible thing and doesn't really show you anything.

I guess what I'm saying is, while the community may blow the SP thing a bit out of proportion, they are not, in any way, truly pointless. They are the icing on your super powered cake.

Ha! Please....I'm sorry but that measuring stick fails in comparison to combat rating. That name alone is enough to give erections. Need proof check the gu47 and the **** storm about how it's reflecting cr and they don't like stat clamping. Or that the mod boost don't effect cr. You never have to look far to see a thread talking about some idiots not giving people a chance because of cr or worst discrimination. But good try.

The most famous argument is: sp don't equal skill and that's fine and dandy when it comes to styles and races but I'm sorry ur a bloody idiot if you think stuff like epic odessy or no hands/feat, or the one piece feat just drops on your lap

The more skill points you have, the more stat innates you can get. Therefore higher skill points = higher stats. For example, one of the innates at the bottom of each weapon tree is +35 might and +35 prec, and you can put 3 points into it, so 105 might and 105 prec total.

I'd have to check in game, but I think I have 6 sets of those innates right now. So if i didn't have those innates, I'd lose 630 might and 630 prec. That's a pretty significant amount in my opinion. That's also not even considering the other smaller innates I spec'd into to reach the 21 point prerequisite to get those big innates at the bottom of the trees.
