This is not a hate thread on the game, I honestly think the game is in the best place since GU 36, but i'm worried for my PS4. A lil back story 1st, I started playing DCUO as soon as it went free to play on the PS3. It was extremely fun an for awhile I never had bad issues, but as time went on an more things were added, eventually it would completely freeze my PS3. Eventually after it crashed way too many times it pretty much fried my hard drive to where it couldnt play pre rendered cut scenes. imagine a scratched DVD how it like to sputter, but this was with downloaded games. Some games forced you to watch these openers an it couldn't get past this initial cut scene, rendering the game literally unplayable. Now on PS4 it does not crash anywhere remotely close to the PS3, but from time to time it does. An if a game crashes on PS4 it doesnt freeze the system an require a hard shutdown. It will bring up a blue screen with an error message. DCUO rarely an I mean rarely ever goes straight to this, an most of the crashes are when I go through a teleporter. This teleporter crash however is unlike any other crash i have seen in any PS4 game, it will instead fade to a black screen an i literally can not do anything for a good 15 to 20s an then the blue screen will load up. For a little while after these crashes i could just restart the game an everything was decent, but maybe a month ago when i reloaded up DCUO from this teleporter crash it loaded up fine nothing looked wrong, untill I got to the character select, it had like a fuzzy look to it, best way to describe it is imagine how ppv channels you hadn't bought looked years ago before we had HD TV's, or like you use an antenna with a bad signal to watch TV. I immediately closed the game to try another game. Sekiro, and it was messed up as well. It even crashed but froze for a few secs an really worried me. After a full on restarting of my PS4 it seemed to be fine an ever since then if DCUO crashes I will fully restart my PS4. I really cant afford to get my PS4 messed up an replace it, so now im paranoid to play almost anything because the fuzzy issue really stuck in my mind an thinking how my PS3 HDD was kinda ruined, I might give up DCUO for good. I just want to know has anyone else who plays PS4 ever experienced anything like this an if so any later issues?
Boot your PS4 in safe mode and rebuild the database. See if that improves things for games other than DCUO.
That's crazy. If DCUO crashing screwed up my PS3. I would have never played with a new PS4 but that's just me.
Hmm.... I've had similar issues with my PS4; however, I've not had the *crash to black* issue in a couple of years. To resolve that type of crashing issue, I've had to re-position my PS4 so it has more room for airflow. I also clean my PS4 regularly (once a month) by gently dusting the outside and using compressed air for the vents and ports. The PS4 doesn't get as hot as my first PS3, which I have lovingly named "The Backwards Compatible Heater", but it does get quite warm if it is in an enclosed space or there are items that are very close to it. I still get those *blue screen* crashes, but they do not happen as often and are very random. Questions: Which PS4 do you have? I have the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro (got them for my birthday). The Pro handles crashes a lot better than the Slim. When you start up your PS4, does it make a very loud revving up noise or is it barely noticeable? Do you run apps while playing DCUO? Sometimes this can cause your game to *crash to black* so I've stopped doing that, too. For example, I've tried to use my Spotify playlist while playing DCUO and I was getting those *blue screen* crashes much too often. When I stopped using it, the frequency of those crashes stopped.
i couldnt say, it doesnt happen all the time, maybe like 2x a week or so, plus im so use to seein it i usually pay no attention to it an skip right past it i have the original ps4, had it since maybe 2014/15 an the fan is not loud on statup but does get very loud on certain games, like dead by daylight, God of War, an Monster Hunter I dont run an other apps, only spotify but during DCUO i dont run anything
Hmm... Ok, your PS4 is a little older; however, it shouldn't have much issues with the game since you can play God of War, which is a much more graphic intensive game. Server stability aside, I wonder if it there is an issue with the heat sink in your PS4, because what has happened to your PS4 (especially with the fuzzy display and the immediate crash afterward) has happened to me during game play on my old PS3 (the heater) and I had to eventually retire it for the newer one because of the manufacturer's defect of the heat sink. The big difference is that with that old PS3, I had to actually wait for the thing to cool down before I could do a restart. The issue could also be with your hard drive; however, it is probably hard to tell since you may not hear the hard drive spinning out of control or the fan going nuts. Have you tried fully uninstalling/reinstalling the game? If not, then think about it; at this point it couldn't hurt. If you have a PS Plus membership you can back up the DCUO save file to the online storage; that way you can uninstall/reinstall without fear of losing data.
I personally walked away from the game for completely different reasons ... But evaluating your case, I believe you should not stop just because of this! First of all, the PS5 is coming very soon and it will automatically be compatible with any PS4 game! With the difference it will be a much better machine! Second, because this type of error can be a defect in the game installation, data, or even something that can be solved easily with the support of the game. Third, that you clearly like the game, since in no time you complained about it, and yes just this error. Fourth, Always have the option of you play on PC! I started on DC on PS3 but then migrated to PC. And it was on the PC that I played until 2017, when I left for sadness with some "politics" of the game ...
Sounds more like this is just a personal ps4 issue. If it is, then whether you play dcuo or not eventually your system will continue to crash with further use. Since we know little about your situation, just as Myandria said, I would make sure it is well ventilated, don't stack it too close to another appliance that adds to the heat, clear out the ventilation and hope for the best. Good luck to you.
How old is your playstation? It shouldn't come as a surprise but they don't actually last forever. Short of an actual hardware fault what you're probably experiencing is data corruption or fragmentation of data held on the hard drive. You should back up your game save data, which i actually believe ps plus does for you, but double check, you only need to do this with games that store data locally, dcuo isn't one of them outside of screenshots and possibly local settings which you can always redo anyway. You should then rebuild your database like instructed or just format and reinstall all your games fresh. It's possible the harddrive may also just be faulty, these are easily changed in a playstation in fact you can even just use an external one as well from memory, i don't personally though, but i play dcuo on pc in any case.
it killed my ps3 too...thats why i went to pc...and lost all my initial acct goodies like the no1 cape and batdrone
The better question is..... CAN you stop playing DCUO? Some people can't quit cold turkey. In regards to having system or technical issues, you may not be left with a choice. Unless that choice comes down to not playing at all, or switching and starting all over on PC. I would imagine you have accumulated a lot of progress on your PS4 characters. And we all know those can't be transferred to PC. So essentially you would be starting over if you moved over. But would you really want to do that? I imagine not. Which returns to my original question. Can you quit it, as in cold turkey?
Since video game addiction is a thing now. (Guess ima junkie) theyve got help for that to kick the stuff lol
i dont recall every crashing on my PS3 or PS4. nor on PC for that matter. and i have the original PS4 not a Pro. although it does breath heavy at times when playing taxing games like FPS games
