Should Fire just get a total rehaul?

Fire Tanking isn't horribly broken, but it's still the hardest tank power to play by a wide margin. Here's where most of the attention is needed. It is the only Tank power without a long range pull. It is the only power (of any sort) without a shield. The Immolation PI is not really used at all.

    To polish Fire Tanks:
    • Increase the self-heal of Burnout.
    • Increase the self-heal of Reignition (it's not much better than Stoke Flames as is). Make Reignition return power. Make Reignition provide a shielding effect.
    • Absorb Heat should be mobile and a super-taunt. Cancel it by blocking rather than jumping.
To give Fire Tanks more attention requires either making it just like all the other tanks with a long-range pull and a shield, or improving it in ways so that it overcomes those lacks.
    • Make fire more of a self-healing tank by buffing the base heal of wildfire slightly per target
    • Leverage the AM aspect of fire tanking by adding wildfire to the AM
    • Make fire more of a Damage tank by having the Immolation PI give like a 100% might buff in tank role (PVE only, obviously)

If Fire were to get a "rehaul" it would be the second in a short period of time.

My Fire toon can do its job on both the tanking side and the DPS side, so I don't see the need. If however you are concerned with competing with Celestial/Quantam on the DPS side, then I understand the consideration but I would suggest there are 7 other powers who would like the same.

God no please don't, it has suffered enough. Just take it out back and shoot it instead.

I still don't get why Fire isn't a DoT damage class, like Nature and Electricity. It just makes sense. You set something on fire and it keeps on taking damage.

I really think the Mass Det spam AM needs to go.

Just tweak the low end damage from mass det and allow something in the AM to inflict a burning pi or a way to keep a burning pi up as long as you're using a certain move. The tanking side should borrow the health buff mechanic of rage. Health is raised every time you use a power based on the amount of adds and your Dom. That would be better than the flat health buff they have now.

Make mass det more consistent and give fireburst a damage buff and were be good to go. Tanking I just want a long range pull.

The funny thing is originally it was a burst damage power. You would set up burning DoTs then hit the enemy with a few burst damage attacks, then have to reset up the Burning PI again. Currently the power I see most like this is Quantum and it's fantastic and fun in my opinion.

Then when the first Fire revamp happened they fixed Fireburst and changed a few powers and it became very DoT based. It was still a lot of fun though.

Now with the AM it's not fun.

You're partially correct. Fireburst was doing double damage. So, they halved the damage per tick until it was fixed. But when they did the fix they forgot to up the damage back to normal.

    • Add the dot back to Spontaneous Combustion
    • Give Fiery Weapon Burning Determination's ability
    • Fireburst should be given a buff the closer you are to the enemy
    * Mass Det should have a Might scaled low end. This makes full Might speccing/skill points desirable.
    * Fire should get a buff for each additional dot present.
    * Meteor Throw animation fixed so you can actually use it!!!!

Fire tanking already has a complete rehaul over on test, it's just not obvious to everyone yet. Fire's tanking problems are mainly due to its damage absorption model being very different from the other tanks. That breaks down in T5 due to how enemy armor piercing works. The whole thing is being changed around in the next big update: https://forums.station.sony.com/dcuo/index.php?threads/gu-47-new-stats-mods-and-flattening.249225/

I actually agree with this. The theme of fire in this game is just wrong on a fundamental level. A scientific level one as well. Fire doesn't cause explosions by it's lonesome. It is the result of explosions more than usual. Fire should have been a Dot class AM. Mass Det and other powers like that doesn't even make sense. Channeling energy into fire just makes it a bigger fire... not explode or detonate. What pisses me off is that, the current Fire is more like an atomic power. And bet atomic's AM is gonna be a hell of alot similar to how Fire should be.

Similar for me. I used to love DPSing back in the FOS days. After t5 was introduced fire stopped being awesome. Still love it, but I won't go back to it until its similar to how it was pre-OC. Miss both DPS and tanking with fire. Still remember how the fireball used to be my favorite move for both stances.

Fire tanking just needs a health buff. That will replace the mitigation that it lacks. It should get a healing increase to compensate for that health buff.

The issue with fire is that It's health bar is simply not enough in current content. Look at rage for instance. it also lacks mitigation buff. To combat that, It has the potential to increase it's health ALOT. And rage mode is always healing it back to 100%

Rage has higher potential health than fire
Rage as higher potential healing than fire
Rage crash's risk is roughly equal to the risk of a fire tank coming out of block
Rage has better out-of-block survivability than Fire

The reward vs effort dynamic is not right.

^^^^ Really odd idea, What if...

While enemies are on Fire they create Ashes. A Fire user is able to collect the Ashes and use it for damage mitigation. Sort of like collecting them for as long as the Fire user desires as a sort of shield/health buff. And then throwing them back for damage.

In Tank Mode: The shield is buffed.
In DPS Mode: The damage is buffed.

I like the AM very much. Flying around spamming Flaming Cascade and juggling everything in sight is fun. Unfortunately there just needs to be a big finisher and Mass Detonation/Firebird just don't do it.

I love the casting animation on Fireburst. The payoff just isnt there. For that amount of time and the amount of risk involved (i.e. interruptions) it should hit like a truck. Currently it hits like a dud. My dream for is for it to shoot a huge fireball that explodes with the volatility flash and damages similar to Timebomb.

MASS D should be the relatively weaker long range option.

the power back needs to apply to more powers...because if u use inferno, fiery weapon, and overheat along with the AM...u quickly run out of power...and if u get interrupted, youre screwed

    Need a larger health pool.
  19. Streven Dedicated Player

Agreed. I'd like to see more powers added to the AM however getting interrupted shouldn't be a problem if you use Flame Cascade. You have plenty of time to recast even if you don't breakout and get up slowly.

Side question: Have they ever fixed Reserve Tank?
