Retuning players, new players and Events with Progress long-term?

These events with progress are going for a while now and looks like its here to stay.
We got 20 days and 10 days versions, the 20 days is 3200? cash with Buyout and 10 days is 1600? it is 160? cash a day (? - for iirc)

Feats, styles, emotes, currencies etc. tied to these events, so its pretty much a have to have thing to get stronger and better in the game (most of it at least), not just simply styles for looks and currencies to get things faster.
Of course the Buyout is optional and we can get all of these for 'FREE'.

And here comes the long-term thing, what if someone misses out a few days here and there? Or a whole event because not playing for whatever reasons, maybe cant play. A returning or a new player who was not around when the event was running... Everyone has to pay 3200 or 1600 or 160 cash/missing day from now on, or just simply never be able to get some of the core elements like feats for skill points etc?
(not sure if its just FOMO or that on steroids or even worse)

It might not seem even a thing while we all are regularly playing, and do progress, but once a few days or more are off its much different.
Seems like a mandatory/obligatory engagement thing while a few years ago we could mostly catch up if we havent played for more than a few days at a time.

    Typo in the title:
Returning players, new players and Events with Progress long-term?

While it is absolutely Fomo, it also got me away from chasing feats as im not able to 100% the game anymore which allows me to play other games more frequently. Since the current content isnt my cup of tea anyway its a nice QoL though probably not for their revenue at least regarding me. :D

this is a MMO, unless you been playing since day 1, you just have to accept you'll going to miss some timed event. For example, I missed the CW Supergirl skin which I really want. I also wish I can get the cosmic material, I never bother to get it in the past and now when I finally have a character idea to make use of it, I can't get it anymore.

such as the life of a MMO... you are going to miss stuff.

    Absolutely agree with this.
I don't really get the argument (which could well be a problem with me, I find human beings difficult to understand sometimes.)

'DCUO' says "If you do 'this' (or part of this and make up the rest with 'x') you get this bonus"
Person 1 not only has the time to do 'this' but has the inclination to and completes it -> gets rewarded.
Person 2 doesn't have the spare time to do 'this' -> doesn't get rewarded.
Person 3 has plenty of time to do 'this' but decides to do something else instead -> doesn't get rewarded.
Persoon 4 has some time to do some of 'this' and make up the rest with 'x' -> get the bonus
NOBODY got penalized, those who met the target got a bonus. What exactly is the problem? This just seems to mirror everything else in life.
If you're obsessed with every last SP or cosmetic or other benefit then maybe you should chill. I'm by no means a mental healrh professional but maybe you should check in with one. If you're not then it's c'est la vie - on to the next.

No, these events are absolutely NOT necessary or required for progression.

    Styles/Emotes: Cosplay FOMO, nothing more.

Feats: With over 700 skill points available from permanent game/episode content, they know they can switch to one-shor skill point events for additional FOMO that ultimately has little actual gameplay value, but does make good number p**n.

Marks: Replay badges still exist, or you can run content for marks too.

No...they are not required or necessary, but they ARE progression. Any single SP can count as progression...even if it's going from 700 to 701 SP. By definition...+1 SP is progression.

If the rewards were simply cosmetic I'd 100% agree...but they are not. And they are not for the sole reason that DBG knows that +1 SP is more of a motivator to some than any cosmetic or title or whatever, would ever be. So while we can scold the drunk for being a drunk, isn't the bartender who advertises 'free beer' a bit to blame for the issue?

This post does make me think though, as we seem to be accumulating tabs for the events, at the end of the 'campaign' or whatever we are calling 1 year's battle pass (shhhh...it's not a battle pass), will all the 'buyout' buttons be live so the uber FOMO people can spend 100's of $$ to clean up all their missed events? I'd like to say no...that past events would be 'past' events, but my experience in this game says yeah. We'll see some catch up 'opportunity' where we can use buyout on any missed events, and gain whatever the overall reward will be for the campaign (assuming there will be one...it sounded like there would be).

That's a lot of words for "But it's a single sp that's absolutely not necessary for newer players to actually worry about or spend daybreak cash or real cash on if they miss too many days, but is used as FOMO bait for a community that are FOMO junkies."

But I do agree with you. Adding a single sp does suddenly make it huge for progression addicts and elitists, I mean who doesn't want a single stat to be 1% higher?

However, as it pertains to the original question and post, no, it is absolutely not necessary or required for anything other than obsessive completionists.

I don't disagree, although at least 1/2 that post was more speculative on how hard they'd monetize the full year. We'll find that out in 10 months I guess. For the record I'd never advocate spending IRL money on the game in any case.

And who said 'huge' progression? +1 is +1. If the total is 2, THAT would be huge progression...you just doubled....if the total is 901, yeah...still SOME progression, however slight.

It's kind of like when you have that first $7 an hour job when you were a kid and you get a .15 cent raise. You are ticked...you think about quitting...you complain to your friends and co-workers about it....but yeah, you still want that .15 cents, and will take it vs saying "nah...that's not worth my time, I'll stick at $7 an hour, but thanks".

Skill points are at the top giving power with gear, arts, mods etc. it has to be achieved only once, not changing like gear. Yes, 1 SP is not the world, but as i wrote 'long-term', also means things adding up. So 1 SP here 1 Sp there another 10 from the ops event etc. half here another there...
if anyone specs their sp properly it gives a meaningful stat boost, there are also thresholds in it, instead of listening to every single yt video about sp, it is not that hard to try on the test server or just gain a few more and try to spec multiple stats to the full. well i actually tried and thats why im telling, not just speculating and chopping and pointing fingers
and i dont care of the other rewards like styles, emotes, currencies. feats i do care, since those give sp
and not even looking at leaderboards or scorecards or whatever, not playing for any of those and such.
and i personally know many players who exactly on the same page in this case, so it is easier also to talk for more players/in their names too.
only replying here cuz 2 out of the rest comments are hostile and not even at the topic, cba. no wonder the game is like this with these kinds of players around
and i know that quite a few feats i wont be getting, but that also adding up, and is getting worse and worse. at least there are the possibility for the rest of the feats and sp to get. not locked away and no way/impossible to get

Yeah, that was kind of my point. +1 isn't much, but it isn't nothing either. Add a years worth of +1s and some outsiders +10 and some TCs +1 or 2 each and it starts to add up to +20 or 25. None of it matters much a point at a time, but at some point a new player might become a vet and a casual might become a completionist grinder, in which case some +20 or +25 SP WILL be an itch they can't scratch.

We don't know if any of the recent 'event' SP will ever be available in alternative methods either. Maybe as a 'past years rewards' in the vendor or something. So if the pattern sticks, +20 becomes +40 or +60, and unlike those hard to get, but possible TC SP's, maybe they are gone for good.

Of course this is all speculation that the game will still be around in years....and that the current Dev team will continue with current plans. We know from past experience that things can change quickly and quietly around here.;)
