First off, I will list my loadout then explain the benefits:

Rage Bringer - Severe Punishment - Eviscerating Chain - Ire - Violence - Ferocity

Rage Bringer is obviously your main pull(cone), as well as your most useful power to buff your health. Your Health Buff as Rage Tank is equal in importance to Rage mode, never forget this. Severe Punishment (Rage Mode) self explanatory. Eviscerating Chain is your single target pull as well as your rage crash cancel. Ire, and Ferocity are your immunity/breakouts, Ire giving a heal and Ferocity a prec buff. Violence is your AoE taunt as well as juggle/knockdown.

The benefits of this is using two breakout/immunities for the most part. My rotation is essentially, I use a pull/taunt and clip with Severe Punishment. Throw out some weapon combos and rage bringers for damage and a health buff. At 50% cool down for Severe Punishment you will use one of your Immunities(it really doesn't matter which), followed immediately by Eviscerating Chain(full combo). Block for the remainder of your CD (if needed... or throw some rage bringer health buffs... blocking is more healer friendly). Repeat, but this time you will use the other immunity at 50% cool down of Severe Punishment. If you keep this up the CD of your immunities should always line up so they are available by 50% CD of Severe Punishment.

The advantage of this is that when you use the immunity at this point you are essentially immune to any kind of interruption/block for the duration of Eviscerating Chain so you will always be able to pull this off without risk. Also, I find when timing a Crash Cancel at halfway it will not always last long enough for it to cancel the crash, resulting in you relying on other signals or a different timing for using it. If you cash the immunity first, it times perfectly for a crash cancel to instantly follow and grant crash immunity at the correct time.

I have used this in all T5 raids since CR 96, even running low SP (though I was a little heavier on Rage Bringer spams to make up for lack of gear), without fail. You will have plenty of PP remaining for Iconics, and you will also have specced into Without Mercy which if you wish you could swap it out for Violence as an AoE pull/juggle. Violence to me seems more consistent on holding Aggro than Without Mercy so it is what I ended up running with.

I hope everyone enjoys, and has fun Rage Tanking with much less risk.

I should add that Dominance is your primary stat as rage tank. When buffing your health it buffs by 2/3 Dominance per power used per enemy. IE:

    Dominance 1500, HP 5000,
1 Enemy, you use 5 powers in a 12 second period(12 seconds from the first power cast):
    1000 is 2/3 of 1500,
    1000 x 5 x 1 = 5000, 5000 + 5000 = 10,000 HP.

    5 Enemies, 5 Powers:
    1000 x 5 x 5 = 25,000 + 5000 = 30,000 HP.

Real time you will probably have an easier time buffing with base HP being around 9-10,000 and Dom higher than 1500. Also you tend to get quite a few powers off in my rotation.

Nice loadout my friend. I hope more rage tanks read this and learn more on the mechanics of rage tanking because I really get tired of the idiots in the game shouting for ice tanks only in LFG. I personally am constantly changing my loadout depending on what raid I am running and a lot of times I will even change it multiple times in one raid like in nexus having to tank all the luthors in the first room, the adds in the hallways, then tanking a single luthor in the buff and nexus room but I can see how this loadout can be used in all situations. I switched from fire to rage and it is the best decision i've ever made on this game not only because the dps side is so brutal but because I finally enjoy tanking once again especially the t5 raids. My main loadout is without mercy(cuz I was once a fire tank and I loved backdraft), ire, ragebringer, severe punishment, eviscerating chain as my rage canceler, and bloodlust just in xase I do crash(which is rare for me) as long as bloodlust is active I will only take 50% of the crash which isnt enough to kill me since I keep my health stacked so high. Poor fire tanks, they took their ability to stack health away just to give it to rage.

thats the loadout i use. sometimes i crash on purpose just to see if i can die anymore... it doesnt happen.

That said, I forgot to mention that violence is also a rage crash reduction (for in case you crash), and I tend to keep it on cool down as well in a boss fight. It's also similar to fire's Enflame in the animation/effects. Thank you though, and that is kind of why I wanted to post it. Rage tanks as of now have a bad reputation that I would like to see fixed soon. Personally I feel rage performed correctly has more potential than Ice easy. I never liked ice as it was too easy, fire I loved, and earth just wasn't my style.

I just got out of paradox on my troll toon and we had a rage tank that mustve rage crashed 7 or 8 times on the first two bosses making it extremely difficult to close the tunnels. The group began hating on this guy so much that he left the raid with only two tunnels closed. Figuring the raid was ovee since there was only 30 minutes til shutdown I was about to disband until they started talking about how horrible rage tanks were and how they would never run with one again. I got on my mic and offered to switch to my main toon and tank for them if they could find a troll to replace me. As luck would have it, they had a troll in their league willing to help so I switched to my main.

After they invited me, they immediately saw my red ring and started crying and wanting to kick me. I told them if I died even once I would give them each $100K but if I didnt die they would have to pay me $100K each. Thinking it was a sure bet they accepted my challenge. Not only did I not die, but my health never got below 80% without my rage mode instantly healing it back. At one point, the entire raid wiped on the warrior except me and I had enough sodas and a supply drop to keep me powered until they got back. When they all returned, I had the warrior and about 5-10 adds in a neat little pile around me going crazy with my swords (who needs to block? Lol). Needless to say, I left the raid $600K richer (one guy left the group and didnt pay up, he is now on ignore).

Afterwards, I logged back on to my troll and invited the former rage tank we had to a group. He said he was changing to ice or fire because he was tired of people always giving him ****. I gave him the OP's posted loadout and evwn walked with him into nexus (just us two) and coached him on how to use the loadout and fed him power until he finally figured it out. He got to where he was surving for 2-3 minutes at a time before his health would finally deplete to nothing. He thanked me for making him feel "beast" again and told me he would tank anyghing anytime for me for teaching him about rage. The best part was hearing him laugh and get super excited when the luthors couldnt kill him even without a healer there to heal him. Moral of my story, rage is beast and help people whenever you can, I now have a beast tank to tank for me whenever I need him. DCUO gets better all the time!!!

Very nice. I started a league that is based on helping others and this kind of stuff is what I try to do when I can, and my league is the same way....most of the time. New members still need to get use to the ideas lol. I read this loadout and tanked A&B for the first time last night. We wiped a few time while I was getting use to the loadout and getting it into muscle memory but by the time we got to the last room it was smooth. We had three people in the raid that had never done it two were raven gear with some mods. We did not wipe once. The most important part of the loadout I think is having both ire and ferocity on your loadout. The rest I think is up to the player but those two are key...IMO

Regardless of power type I believe all tanks should have both immunities and breakout trinket on their loadouts. Not only does it save your *** but it keeps everyone else in the raid on their feet as well. When I tank I play my Rage toon very similar to yours with the timing of Ferocity/Ire, only difference is I keep pve trinket on cooldown and prefer Remorseless Recovery to Violence (with RR, Without Mercy, and Ire I can keep myself healed in T5 content without using Severe Punishment). I have a slightly different loadout (E Chain-Ire-Ferocity-Without Mercy-Remorseless Recovery-Severe Punishment) but it's good to see Rage toons that do more than just dps.

Also both Violence and Without Mercy (almost all tanking powers really) grab/hold aggro the same way (15 meter radius from powers target point), so don't let aggro stuff stop you from using a power. Only exceptions to this are single target taunts (usually first power in tree) and single target pulls.

Once you get it, its beast. Looks like a good loudout but I don't know if I could give up Without Mercy.

I'm glad my loadout is helping already. I do agree, the two immunities is what is most important in this loadout, especially for rage. That was my entire goal was to help people learn a little more about rage so they could take their own Tanks through anything they wanted. It is an extremely useful power set to tank with, with not many drawbacks once you figure it out. There is a lot of community hate on rage atm for tanks especially, and I want to see that changed as well as see other tanks learn their potential.

Well then use without mercy instead of Violence. They are essentially the same move with small differences. Without Mercy probably a little more useful for piling up the adds so dps's can burn them, but everyone has their own preferences.

I use pretty much the same loadout, minus Ferocity, add in Without mercy. I use Violence with Severe Punishment. Have zero issues tanking anything. I use straight DOM expert in all my blues giving me about 2100 Dom. Rage Tanking is so much fun.
  13. Shad0wReap3r Committed Player

Awesome. Obviously this isn't the only way to go as a rage tank, its merely a less risky one. Having both of the immunities gives you the option to cast them every single time before you use your rage crash canceller, which leaves you almost invulnerable to any sort of interruption while using it. I just realized though I should have posted this in Oracles Database but ah well.

I know this is a super old thread but thanks for the loadout. I just made a Rage toon and once I'm high enough I'm gonna switch to tanking and use this loadout
