So i would first like to say its great to be back and i love this game. I last played when Amazon fury 1 had just come out, I say this just to give an idea of when i last played super heavily. After i had to leave and now i am back. Anyway, my question is, What is with the new mark system? I think it is a massive step back. I recently decided to start doing feats and i wanted to get older styles i missed and i am a bit confused as to why the old marked styles cost as much as the new ones. Correct me if i am wrong, as it has been 2 years, Wasnt the older stuff cheaper then the newer stuff? I dont see why this change was made, its really weird to see that these old styles that will give me no stat increases costs the same as better gear. Can anyone give me an answer or reason? I am racking my brain trying to figure this out and maybe im not finding one because i do not know the inner workings of this game but i am really confused on this is all. The only reason that even remotely comes to mind is Styles skill points but even then i would imagine that is not a big enough reason to make this kind of change. TL;DR= Why do newer styles cost the same amount of marks as older styles?
I think it was to slow progression and allow the devs some breathing room. There were problems with the mark system players had to run a lot of content to keep up with rent. Leveling an alt was a little easier when it came to style feats but, then came feat purchasing with replay badges so you only have to do it once unless you really want to. More money for the game in the form of replay badge sales, less time for players grinding old styles for each alt. I can't say if the new way is better or not, running content to make rent isn't as frequent now.
Basically, The mark conversion costs of T5 were huge. T6 was going to be even bigger. T7, which is about to end soon, would have been bigger still. The numbers were becoming unsustainable. I believe there was once a huge bug that took place, possibly around the time you last played, where they said the mark limit was being increased to a quarter of a million or something like that, but then a bug prevented it from happening. On top of that, it was quite intimidating if you didn't understand how the system worked (more MOT for completing higher tier stuff). If you're only getting like 10 marks for completing an instance and you see the next set of gear is valued at like 500 Marks per piece, it can be confusing and off putting. So they decided to go with the single mark system, making it consistent across the board. We lost out on Catalysts being cheap as hell and also styles became considerably more expensive too, if you didn't earn them at the time. But they also introduced a vendor where each style piece from the previous tier's vendors cost only 10 Marks. Not ideal, but better than having to pay full prices for pieces of gear that are no longer useful to you. I'm not sure where this vendor is located on the heroes side, but in the villains side it's near the Legends vendor in the Pit. I assume it'll be near the Legends vendor in the Watchtower, too.
Lol, don't rack your mind too much friend. This is one of those things that myself and many other players that I know think is absolutely ridiculous. Albeit some of the older styles can be found in a vendor for purchase at the reasonable cost of 10MoV, the fact that rest of the style-only items cost the same as their usable (ie equipable/relevant) current tier counterpart is ridiculous. Imho once you surpass a tier the previous tiers styles should be found in the 10MoV vendor. TL;DR= There is no good answer, styles shouldn't cost as much as their equipable/usable/relevant gear counterpart.
On the Hero side - Pve style vendors are in the Aqua cultural center between meta and tech wing, and in the testing center under the meta wing. Pvp style vendors are in the hall between meta and magic wings.
Good memory friend, lol I had forgotten about all the shenanigans during the mark transition. I have to say all though they could sure tweak a few things overall I do not mind the new single mark system. I think that they definitely overinflated the costs associated with mainframe items (and don't get me started on rent...), but otherwise it worked out OK. I do feel strongly though that styles should by no means cost as much as relevant gear.. BTW, those style vendors on the hero side are located in the Watchtowers Aquacultural area
I have already purchased those where i am currently, but i am curious now, lets say i hit i higher CR and tier, will some of the pieces that currently cost 40 or 60, drop down to being 10 because i am "further" or will i still need to spend 40-60 marks when i hit cr 160 or whatever? Its just weird because i remember and really liked being able to do a high lvl mission and basically with that set of marks i got go and buy almost a full set of older gear (which didnt give me any stat boosts) Now i am struggling with my desire to get higher CR, or try and buy all the old gear i can before moving on.
Lol I used to love that as well. I'm not at home atm but I believe that the reduced cost style vendor (10MoV) allows you to buy select styles up to the t5 level as long as your toons level is t6 or higher....I may be mistaken though. Personally rather than spending bookoo marks on styles, I find myself thinking "meh, they'll be in the 10mov vendor someday". Lol
As you noted the Marks system was revamped, put to a single Mark system (something they had tried before but now got it right). This happened with the infamous GU47 mid last year. This was needed for the continuation of the game. It set all prices to a standard same value so there is no worries about over in flatting Mark prices. They also lowered the amount of Marks rewarded to what was T1 levels, to match the new prices. Sadly they also lowered the cap to 100 which made there be a need for the horrible content relevancy. The relevancy was also a way to cut back the high CRs in lower content making low CRs cry because they would rush through stuff (it didn't work and they have been crying again for the past few months). The Mark system on its own is fine, standard rewards and prices across the game is done in other games with no issues.
