Question about DCUO Longevity

I'm hearing a lot of conflicting arguments and I was hoping maybe a few of you could help me make sense of the lines between the lines:

Is the game dying or isn't it? Keep it 100% real, please.
I've been playing off and on since we got a beta version for PS3 and am having a great time with it on PS4. I take a hiatus for a couple months each year to focus on work, real life responsibilities, to focus on a title I've been anticipating, or just because I'm burnt out sometimes... but I always come back. I enjoy myself too much to just walk away forever.

But it seems like I'm seeing some people write the game off as "in it's sunset stage" even in topics that have nothing to do with the game's future plans or longevity. I'd like to see the game stick around for a while.

    Thoughts?

Sometimes "sunsets" are the most enjoyable part of a day...they just don't last very long.

I don't think a company would put time, money and resources into a game that has no future.

I don't think it's dying. For every player that leaves, a person somewhere has probably just discovered the game.

Elitist, forum snobs that say their dumb friends have left the game is nothing to go by.

I don't know whether or not the game is dying.

I do know that a lot of people in this forum have already quit the game and would like the game to validate their decision by failing. It took me a while to figure that out. I still don't understand it... :(

People have been saying this game is dying for years now but its still here. Stop worrying if the game is "dying". Just enjoy the game. People come and people go in these types of games. Its part of the life cycle of the game.

Fair point, chief. It just seems like we're losing more than we're gaining.

Huh! I hadn't thought of it like that.
"Well, I'M leaving, so nobody else should enjoy the game either!"
Pretty sad state of mind IMO.

Well, I kind of have to worry. If the talent pool shrinks we get less people to assist in raids and whatnot. I do enjoy the hell out of DCUO. There's just SOOOOOO much negativity around...

In response to your Sig, are you on USPS and what faction ?

I'm in USPS and a Hero. Though I'll probably work on a villain once Atomic drops.

Well, if it's dying I'll be the last one on the ship, then....giving green power bursts as my HL Troller AND soon giving some boss Atomic radiation, close-up style.

I honestly don't see the game dying. Some of the older guard has left, upset by GU 47 and some other minor (IMO) issues. Seeing some returnees to the game, and some new players.

I don't play it quite as much anymore due to life commitments, but I'm still online almost everyday for league support.

I supremely doubt DCUO is going to be discontinued. So long as there is active, continued development on the game and the publisher has said otherwise officially or taken action to sunset the game (by discontinuing recurring subscriptions, preventing new subscriptions and purchases, and notifying lifetime and year-long subscribers of their intent), what people say on these forums or in-game is, quite simply put, "noise".

When someone on these forums with a Green Name says something different, then become concerned because they are, generally speaking, the only ones here with any legal, official standing to make a comment.

So the general consensus of the thread so far is not to worry and I probably should stop listening to these bitter (or misinformed) negative Nancies.

And yet... part of me wants to know why the hell so many people both in-game and on forums think that this place is done for.

    Thanks for your input!

I run a lot of old stuff for fun and to find style pieces I am missing. I meet new people all the time who are brand new to the game. I try to help them out as best I can, but it seems like we have a lot of new people showing up all the time.

If you enjoy the game so much then all that negativity shouldnt matter at all. I personally never have any trouble getting into raids or getting help from people. Dont let all the negative nancies get to you. This game is going to be around for a very long time.

The game is dying? Depends on Pov, I don't think the game is dying but brutally injurred and slowly trying to repair itself, you just can't say the game is doing good the way PvP is right now, and we have to wait a year for the mid range mechanics and there's no telling if that will break the game even more,

Recently Atomic powerset was leaked, many wanted orange as well as green, but the Devs has chose to base it 100% on Firestorm leaving thier other subscribers out who wanted green, all I have to say is they sure would have made a better profit with this powerset if it had pleased both audience.

Sad to say but IMO this game has been dying a slow death since 2012. Nothing lasts forever

A little story for ya Raccoon....My first mmo was Everquest on the ps2. The game was amazing btw. The first few years of the game, we got updates that unlocked new areas, planes, realms etc. Had a class mastery system added in about 5 years into the game. A couple more updates in the following year. After that, we got nothing for almost 6 years. Sure, we had the same holiday events year after year, but other than that, Nothing. But....people still played it because of all the people we met on there. We loved that game. We gained 12+ years of memories in that game. Then we get an announcment that in 30 days, the servers were being shut off. Was a very very sad day for everyone.....My point is this....enjoy the game. Its going to be here for quite some time.

Part of me looks at those individuals like people who get married for all the wrong reasons. Everything is great initially but then they become bored, then jaded, and rather than accept this was a bad idea, they stay in the hopes that things will mystically become better. Only, instead of becoming better, those players become more and more jaded and start wanting the game to fail so that they don't have to be the one to walk away.

These are the players who blame the game for their friends leaving (although a lot of them left because they found other games to play or something else occupied their time). They blame the game because the mechanics changed, or because the powers are shifting, or because there isn't enough content, or because they don't like something the Creative Director said, or something.

There is no logic to it because, after all, Daybreak will tell us when the game is dying because they'll be the ones to kill it much like Paragon Studios did with City of Heroes back in 2012 (cite the City of Heroes wikipedia for the gory details).

Also, there are still other stakeholders in this game aside from Daybreak who might have a say, namely PlayStation (because this game still makes them money), DC Comics (because this game gives their properties visibility), or Columbus Nova (who just invested a whole lot of money to buy the company from Sony back in February).

Again, if any of those entities leaked anything regarding the future of this game (and they haven't) I would be willing to raise concern here but, as I've said, anyone else who is not officially vested in this is just making noise.

You are asking for a definitive answer for an abstract/subjective question from people who can and will never know the true reality of things.

The game will continue until the plug is pulled, even the majority of DGC employees wont have much of a warning on when the end comes.

As for what people say and do, that is just standard behavior of the gaming community. Every single game has those dooms day/chicken little types that run around the forums and in games saying "the end is near", "the sky is falling", you can only take it with a grain of salt. Now I'm not saying there is never any truth to what is said just that its rarely the whole picture or truly that dire.
