I decided to make my Quantum DPS into a troll (42 CR 30 SP). I JUST switched to it, and only have Controller PVP gear, and that makes me feel like a hypocrite, because I hate when people wear pvp gear in pve, but it's all I have. So, what are some tips you amazing trolls can give me? I have heard to always keep PoT up and use your de buffs, but what else?
Look in the database on the forum, there is tons of info. Only run duos and solos at the beginning. Remembering POT is very important and if you can keep your duo partner up, then you are ready for alerts. My loadout is Tachyon Burst for POT, it also lifts the target in the air for several seconds depending on your Dominance) I use Singularity for defense de-Buff. This Roots the target, and pulls in other targets for crowd control I use Alcubierre Wave for damage de-buff. This pulls targets that are behind you forward and applies the de-buff to the target in front of you. Now, I like this for the crowd control aspect but you may like Warp Barage better, it is more of a single target but the range is less. My supercharge is Event Horizon. This is awesome, it creates a shield around you and seven teammates and it greatly increases your power and the group's power. Last, and certainly not least, is Temporal Extortion. This is your power dump and it also gives a might and precision bonus for a short time. Very important to use this when your Healer/Tank gets low on power, and if you can spare it, your DPS. That leaves one more space. That is up to you and weather or not you want to put most points into the Space or Time tree. I use Gravity Well, very good for crowd control. SO the role of the Troller is complicated. You are expected to be the battery, crowd control and de-buff the boss/adds. Many say that they don't de-buff adds but I'm here to tell you some people will get highly upset if you don't. The choice is yours. I de-uff them with defense so they go down easier. If you see one DPS trying to kill one ore two mobs by themselves, throw out that defense and damage de-buff. You are also expected to pickup fallen allies. Just pop your hield (i'm sure you use the shield when you solo) or Quantum Tunneling to pick them up. All too often someone has already beat me there, but I always try and typically throw Event Horizon down. I would recommend using a ranged weapon. I like the Bow, but use any weapon that you can rack up the hit counter with. All you need to do is get to say 20 hits. Just enough to keep your power bar midway. Also, if you can do this, when you throw the POT, time it so you throw the POT again when the fourth tick gives power. So you will give power in ticks for 25 seconds. At 20 seconds the fourth tick hits, so try to throw POT out right after and you will get double ticks. This is very difficult but if you just keep POT up your group should be fine. Don't spam your powers, have fun and remember that Trolling is a thankless job. I like my Troller because as a Troll, you do not get the damage penalty that Healers and Tanks get. I also like soloing, it makes it easier to survive.
Oh crap I forgot the Healing De-Buff! Ok I use Anomaly, it costs less power than Gravity Bomb, but has less range. You will only pull this out on occasion (PVP, and certain bosses that heal). Ok, so I think that is all.
Thanks for all the info, I think I have the same loadout as you, except for the shield, didn't think about picking up allies. Thanks for the answer ^-^
T.burst, t.extortion, singularity, g.bomb, q.tunnel, event horizon T.burst: pot that CCs 2 targets Singularity: def debuff with nice CC G.bomb: long range targeted AOE stun, spamable, heal debuff The rest is pretty self explanatory.
Hypocrite!!! Sorry couldn't help myself... As important as it is to give power -out, always have a bit ready for you. Your priority should be HEALER>TANK>YOU>DPS PoT keep the bolt up & learn how to double tick. Try not to override if not PoT controller.. Insta-power DMG & DEF Debuff keep these up on bosses You'll hardly ever use healing debuff in PVE. Only a few instances need these Having a shield in your loadout to p/u teammates is VERY helpful. I also always carry PDF's in my utility belt. Can't help you with loadout though, I only played Quantum for about 4 hrs. before going back to HL.
Sorry if long winded, I didn't know how much you knew. I would suggest doin the solos and duos before any alert. It is very easy to get that first tier of PVE gear and you can practice different loadouts etc.
