PSA for new players: Don't ever get radar enhancers

  1. Hexxen Level 30

It was nice to notice today that Batman ally's passive reveals all the nodes. I've bought quite a few radar enhancers when the marketplace had the sale. What a waste!

Now I have like 10 enhancers in my inventory that I can't trade or sell or anything that are completely useless apparently, since I got the Batman passive.

Honestly do feel a bit duped.

Who made you buy them items on sale?

You found value in your purchase at the time.

If you dont feel like leveling up Batman those are a alternative.

Might as well use up your detectors before leveling up batman to get the most out of your scanners

See, OP, that's one point of view. I assume you play one toon, yea?

Here's my point of view: I have 3 main toons and another 4 I care enough to at least moderately deck out with things.
For one, which toon would I put Batman on? But that question alone is redundant since both ally favor as well as those catalysts for them are tight enough that I won't even bother leveling Batman on any of them. In the meantime, I have amassed 82 such Radar enhancers over the past 3 years through means I don't even remember, so I'll stick to those when I really want to hunt specific collections. Investigations and Briefings are all fix, so I'll just consult a map for Metropolis and Gotham, any episode equivalents I'll find eventually.

There you go, I'll stick to Radar Enhancers :p

Also, I wouldn't really recommend new players to waste resources on Batman, let alone for just that feature. There's a whole lot of other allies that actually benefit them much better.

I still prefer Radar Enhancers. I'm not into wasting resources to built Batman high enough on 29 toons. It was super helpful to me since I started the game and I would still recommend RE to anyone who asks.

While I've toyed with the idea of leveling batman for this reason, the level 10 legendary favor cost and catalysts don't seem worth it just for this ability. If he had a particularly good combat function, maybe, then I could swap him between combat and passive if I wanted to go hunting, like krypto if I wanted to go bit farming....but Krypto costs much less favors, so it was an easy spend....and I can get radar detectors cheap or technically for free from Dr Fate....Ally favor is not cheap.

I'm glad you are happy with your investment, but honestly, how often are you collection farming? I know I've got a stack of radar detectors I've had for years that I'll pull one out the first day of a DLC to find the new nodes...but after that I just go off memory.

BTW...you should be able to give the detectors to an alt and set them off farming one day...unless you are planning on leveling batman on alts....or have no alts.

It's easy to level it to level 6 and leave it there

It's even easier to not, then use a radar detector from the stack of like 50 I have.:)

Sure, if you have them., otherwise I was just pointing out levelling even a legendary ally to 6 isn't particularly cumbersome, in fact realistically it's only level 9-10 that's a pain, those last 2 levels are as much as the first 8

I honestly wouldn't know. I'm not leveling any legendaries till I'm at 996,000 or so ally favor, so I can make my best informed decision and they won't pull the rug out right away with the new hotness the next month.

Just in the interest of science, what's the difference in a level 6 passive Batman and level 10? Longer range? Multiple collection drops? I know Krypto has more yield per exo with higher levels (up to 5 bonus I think) but what's 7-10 on Batman bring?

Not on at the moment and forget, but im pretty sure from memory it just makes you collect the node faster, so pretty trivial hence, stop at 6.

Also they'll always pull the rug out given they don't let you feed allies you can almost be certain better ones will keep coming out to monetize them
  11. Reinheld Devil's Advocate

Yeah, but like artifacts, I'd guess at some point when we have a higher level of choices SOME choices will stay near the top. Similar to Trans, Strat, Solar, Quizlet and EOG....most of those are pretty valid regardless of if a new one comes out. HOL bot has stayed pretty constant, and BWL seems like he's generally useful in most cases.

I know there will always be some new one that adds some useful change/improvement, but I'd rather make my choice from the greater pool AND make sure no nerf will be retroactively applied to the 'big' thing (looking at you Venom Wrist Dispenser) after I invest in it. I'm guessing when I do splurge, if the latest ally is the 'OP' one, I'll wait till it simmers a bit and doesn't get a post launch clipping.

Honestly I just really have no big interest in allies. I've got the same ones I had launch day or soon thereafter. I don't really care that much to try and play 'keep up' with them. Not being maxed for ally favor is probably just more an excuse than anything....but it is the thing that will MAKE me pay attention when I get there.
  12. Proxystar #Perception

    That's probably already true.

You basically can't go wrong if you just chuck a krypto in active for single target or superman for AOE, Shazam was good too but they nerfed him after a few days, so you could argue they've already engaged in a bit of bait and switch, but hey everything's subject to change so 'meh'.

Depending on how you play Aquaman passive (for pet dps) Batman who laughs are both pretty solid they'll only really be replaced through power creep.

The trouble with waiting and although I entirely understand why you'll be doing it, is that that mentality leads to never making a decision ever, because no matter when you jump in there's still always going to be something new.

This is a transient video game, enjoy it while you can, it's not hedge fund universe online and saving that Ally favor for retirement isn't doing you any favors.

I can count on no hands the amount of sleep I'm losing over it. I care not for the scoreboard, and really....that's the only reason I'd pick up ANY legendary, save maybe the Tank ones if I were doing + content. None are 'needed' above and beyond my gear, SP and a full compliment of artis. All of which, if I had buyers remorse, I have an outlet to correct the issue. When the overage of 999,999 starts being wasted, I'll confront the issue head on...or heck, maybe I'll just gear up a few more farmers with HOL bot and oracle? Who knows.

In either case, I doubt the one I'll work on first will be Batman, even to level 6. A) I don't collection farm that much anymore (almost nothing in the OW has value at this point) and B) I do have the detectors still...so I'd be running that pile down first.
  14. Proxystar #Perception

If you're tanking I wouldn't underestimate the value of Lex Luthor, you're effectively missing out on the benefits of another artifact there.

Even superman in passive for tanking with a shield upon breakout for the entire group.

These are solid allies I don't particularly see being superseded outside of some massive power creep.
  15. Sghoul Well-Known Player

The Batman Ally is a prime reason I wish that ally levels passed across the account. Since the sound is often busted, it makes finding those things so much easier :)

I will say, to new players, neither Batman leveling or Radars are particularly necessary. Getting to Max CR is way more beneficial than the feats and collections. Now, once you are max or near max CR, they can be useful.
  16. WilderMidnight Steadfast Player

I'm only leveling the Batman ally on my main toon. Going to break him out at the start of new dlcs to get the briefings and investigations and then he's going back to his cave. Leveling this guy up is too much work to do it on more than one toon.

This frees up any Radar enhancers I may have or get for use on my lower tiered toons who still have b and e's to complete.

Don't see this as a bad thing.

Can't wait for the next ally to give off exo locations...just as I finally complete the tragic feat...

i ranked him to 6, just for the abilities, and i attached it to a armory for head-cannon RP xD

I have about 200 something scanner already.

max kryptos passive and get batman to rank six and your exo/collection farming will improve greatly
  19. Reinheld Devil's Advocate

Yeah, but can you say that either is required for reg or standard Elite? And I did say the tanking ones were the only ones where I can see a substantial benefit, past scoreboard chasing. So yeah...those are the ones I'd probably start with, when I get started, vs a pew pew pew ally.

What a waste? You get free radar enhancers as a new player leveling up. Why did you have the need to buy them when you get them for free?
