PSA: Anti-Gold Seller Initiatives Begin Tomorrow

For anyone who missed the Patch Notes:

Chat Restrictions

• Free players are now restricted from posting in the global chat channels (LFG and Trade).
• Free players are now restricted to 5 messages every 24 hours in public chat channels (Shout, Versus, Say). Free players can still chat unrestricted in Group and League chat channels.
• Premium and Member chat restrictions are unchanged.

Well, it's a start, and shows us that somebody is listening to the complaints about the constant breaches of the game's TOS.

Oh god I hope this help.. first of all because even tonight I was seeing as many are 5 different Spammers on the LFG filing my chat box as I was looking for raid teams forming. Second because oh my GOD I have lost track of how many different threads on the exact same subject we have seen since this new AO???? whatever group started shoving their ads down our throat. it has been like every single guy that went on line and encountered the problem came here and instead of looking to see if a thread was already started ..they started their own. Hate to say it because I have been as disturbed by the amount of spam the past week but my god folks the threads about the spammers were getting almost as bad as the spammers. LOL OKAY NOT THAT BAD.

My only concern is how effective will the change be? It only takes $5 to go from F2P to Premium although I think the vast majority of the spammers would balk at even paying out that small amount to stay active.

The way people have been complaining about the Gold Spammers..... you would think the Gold Spammers stole their lunch money or something like that.

But I was truely asking if this will be enough to satisfy the people complaining??

Or if they will keep on complaining even if this fixes 99.9999999% of the problem???

So your brilliant idea is to punish innocent free players for the actions of subscribers and to end the social aspect of a social game. Yeah that's a smart idea.


Look I'm sorry that all the PS players are now having to deal with something we PC players have been dealing with for years but seriously get over it already. Is it an annoyance? Hell yes it is. Is it the end of the world? No it is not.

Use the ignore function and quit coming up with ideas that only hurt the players and do nothing to the bots.

EDIT: I made a mistake. I let my anger get the better of me and didn't notice this was something from DGC. But my thoughts still stand.

Adding, To DGC, just shut the game down now, you clearly no longer have anybody who has a clue working there. We all know that you have never liked anybody who wasn't an active subscriber but this is just stupid. This is really the solution you came up with?

Yes....because in the event these gold spammers really decide to make a premium toon, the company will get paid, and to keep their costs down, the cockroaches will only make a few spammers, making it EASY to ignore or put on an ignore list. Boom.

it takes $2 to bypass all of this. Solves nothing.

Is it really that damaging to the game?

The majority of players using trade and LFG are end tier players. Doubt many of them are free to play players.

There is a 5 message limit on shout and say, still enough to ask for help if need be. Group and league chat are still unlimited.

If you ask me this is the most democratic solution they came up with. It's good spam bots didn't bother you, but not everyone is in possession of your level of patience. They have gotten progressively worse, you can't blame people for getting fed up. The bots didn't bother me as much as some people, but that doesn't stop me from seeing what a nuisance they are.

Precisely...they can't maintain much of a profit if they try to create the same amount of spam accounts as they currently do as premiums so either they give up for the most part, or their spam becomes incredibly easy to ignore or put on an ignore list. Either way, they won't be anywhere near as ever-present as they are today...and that is a HUGE step in the right direction.

Making multiple toons on macros logging in and out? Fine and dandy until the ban hammer drops.

It is a step in the right direction. I dont necessarily like what they have done with the Free players because it limits their ability to chat freely with others, even if they arent members. And its not even their fault.

But, i cant be disappointed because they were listening and they have found a solution amd are hoping to find more elegant ways of solving this. Its obviously a hard task for them because if it wasnt, they would all be gone.

Im glad they found out a way to limit the spam bots. It just kinda sucks for the free players. But we will live lol

So, the gold spammers can pay 5 bucks to get premium but then they would get banned eventually and forced to pay again.
Looks like a cash farm for the Dev Team.
There's at least 3 to 4 gold sites that advertise so that small change is going to add up

I know you originally targeted the OP with that statement, but since you still feel that way (now correctly aimed at the company), you need to realize it is nowhere near catastrophic as you make it out to be.

For starters, there aren't anywhere near that many "New" unique players to be that seriously affected by this necessary drastic change. Second. between level boosts and and generally quick leveling these new players will make it to level 30 and if they stick around, buy something and become premium (the level boost alone would make them premiums)...opening the chats up to them. If they're lucky, they might get in a league early enough and learn a thing or two to get them where they need to be to get unrestricted chat.

Lastly...this need not be a permanent change. Someone posted in one of these spam problem threads that another game tried this method...and eventually the roaches went away....so they rescinded the restrictions have been monitoring things after. It could hopefully work the same way here. Throw up the roach fogger, wait a while...clean up, and open that kitchen again. Roaches come back, drop another fogger on them.

As drastic as this solution may seem to you, realize that anything else will incur costs that they are trying to avoid, and tactics that may be more harmful than this one. Let's give this a try and see how it works before pronouncing it the death knell of the game.
