Ninja change to Legends - Kriptonian's Laser Beam

    This wasn't a "ninja" change to legends; it was clearly in the patch notes but you guys must have missed it:

    "Non-field damage over time (DoT) effects with durations longer than five seconds have been shortened. Abilities that cause full damage instantly as well as applying a DoT effect have had their DoT damage reduced."

    Non-field means they are either narrowed cone or single target attacks and they all clearly have channeling aspect to them which makes it longer than five seconds. Unless they actually meant to add the empowering channeling mod rather than "shortening abilities". The way you guys describe seems like they just slapped on empowering channeling mod...

    That's exactly what they did. They aren't interruptible and give 30% damage mitigation just like the mod. I don't think you understand what you quoted.

    I'm watching Aidden Warren stream right now against a Bizarro and seeing the effects of it in action.

    So no, it was not in the patch notes.

    EDIT: Just to further clarify this, they did reduce the damage of almost every DoT in legends which is what you were referring too.

    Also I did just have Aidden use Supergirl and use Heat vision. So this is definitely confirmed by myself.

    Its what they did, they put empowring channeling for all Kriptonians Heat Vision skill, and this cannot be found in patch notes, making this a ninja uptade.

    I can, I shall and in the Future will have done!

    And I'm trying to get a read on how much damage it's doing (little difficult from a stream when jump cancelling keeps happening) but it does seem like it's dealing somewhere around 4-5 hundred. This isn't confirmed though because as stated, it's hard to tell.

    Yea its true that swings some balance out of wonk esp with bizzaro, thats why a proper panel is needed to discuss ideas that they wish to implement that are major changes. But lets see how it goes first and look at how the balance of pvp is going to go with these changes.

    What I think happens with them is Jens puts in a request to change something, but the changes to remove safe damage was decided by other devs. So its possible they just don't communicate very well. And then Jens says this, then another dev puts it in on top everything else that the other devs are doing. It's quite probable thats the case.

    It's 25% mitigation and CC immunity for 3 seconds but fairly balanced out with the mega nerf to all DoTs. The other damage absorb powers have 75% mitigation. While you're standing there channeling this, you're a sitting duck to weapon combos that hit for more than the power.

    Also, Bizarro has a different power (Heat Breath, not Heat Vision) and didn't get this change.

    It's not even a proper panel that's needed at this point. What's needed is the developers to be upfront about these sorts of changes in the first place. It took less than a day before people noticed this change. It's not like they made some tiny adjustment to the damage of one move in particular that would hardly be noticed unless observed very closely. This is a huge change that completely has altered the effectiveness of a power.

    Also (and I have yet to test this) but according to this thread freezing breath wasn't effected. Does this mean that the entire power heat vision was adjusted? Because if so that means PvE and arena's heat vision could have been altered.

    Really? I could have sworn I saw him be interrupted. Either way the stream had a bit of lag which is why I was hesitant to confirm a bunch of that stuff.

    That's possible but poor communication isn't exactly a point in anyone's favor.

    Hmmm, if thats the case heat vision in arenas would be pretty op. Hopefully that is not the case. But testing is needed really. I've no time due to work :p

    PvE heat vision was not altered.

    The buff itself, while I am not a fan of it, it isn't overly useful. While I was using Superman and Sabigya was using Bizarro we testing it out. In the timeframe of heat vision Sabigya was able to take down about 23% of my health and I took down about 10% of his.

    They severely reduced the damage of heat vision. Its does pitiful amount of damage is still not worth using.

    It might be something to use if you just want to stand your ground do damage and plan your next move. Maybe it also provides stun resistance.

    Doubt stuns are impacted. Check out Empowered Channeling if you want to see the main effect that seems applied now. That's been explored heavily in PvE and PvP since it's the only useful hand mod if you're a fire tank, for use with Absorb Heat. You're seriously tough against regular attacks when that's running. You still need to be careful about stunning and control effects.

    One use I can see is aiming for a pause long enough to reach a cooldown. You might even get a rotation where this is alternated with something effective with a longer cooldown. And if you're near a soder cooldown, getting some damage reduced time where you can't be interrupted could save your match. All this can be very helpful when you're trying to hold a PvP node too, gives your teammates more time to get back to help.

    They can try, they are still open up to attack. They may decide to use as just another way to start the burning dot.

    Oh, never mind, I did not realize it mitigated damage as well.

    In PVE, could this be useful for a Tank if you could take that much damage while it's activated? If so, a Kryptonian loadout seems more viable.

    In PvE, a fire tank with Empowered Channeling who uses Absorb Heat is pretty powerful. The Defense boost helps mitigate incoming damage, you gain the benefit of the power (which is self-healing against burning foes in the fire case), and you throw out some damage too. In some situations, it's even better than blocking, because you don't have block breaks to worry about. The main situation I still find that useful on today are the first and last Nexus rooms, where you're facing multiple bosses that throw regular block breaks at once. It's a long range taunt too.

    Legends with empowered Heat Vision aren't getting as many benefits from the power side of that. But the boost to Toughness from Empowered Channeling is really big relative to the normal PvP toughness numbers. I tend toward Legends with familiar mechanics from my PvE play, and I might even go buy Zod now that he has this one. (Probably just practice more with Supergirl instead)

    It's a nice change, but still not worth using as the damage per second is a joke now. More of a novelty change than anything.

    Still, I hate how they make changes without patch notes
