New Loot System

Heh. I think it's just because it's a really big change so we all think it must be more complicated than it is. I actually thought it was a bug on Test before I read about the change in the patch notes.

One other major benefit people are overlooking is that you don't have to run content with as few people as possible to increase your chances of winning a specific style. I do a four man FoS3 run so there's less competition if the Avatar Infiltrator gear drops. I also walk in solo Ace Chemicals for the iconic drops. Under this system I'd be able to run it with a full group without decreasing my odds of walking away with what I went in there for. With no benefit to a smaller group if there's a slot open I can pluck a random DPS out of LFG for my league Nexus run. If they're terrible it doesn't matter. Worst case scenario you get what you would have gotten anyway and they get something they didn't really earn.

This is the one thing I've been waiting to hear all year. I never use replays on raids cuz I could easily end up getting nothing just cause I got beat out of every roll. This fixes that so I will defo be using replays from now on. Thx for finally making it happen!

I'm not sure if this was intended but a friend told me yesterday they ran Nexus on the test server and from the first boss all they received was a base item, no gear/etc at all. Is this a bug or is this part of the randomness of what you get?

Edit: Should clarify they did get a mark as well.

I'm thinking this isn't a bug, madaoturles. Now that I've had a chance to run some stuff on test with this new loot system, it feels worse than the old. Especially because I'm used to running with a league. Did I get something from every boss/subboss? Yes. Do I feel like getting a non-role set of legs or a weapon I don't use is better than ensuring my leaguemates get to roll on what they need? No, I personally do not. I think if we run as leagues, we should be allowed to choose which type of loot we want.
  6. Statman New Player

Gotta agree. It's not a fix to the loot system, it's an overall change to suit PUG groups. Would've been much simpler adding a 'need on role' loot style in the current looting system than implementing this crap.
  7. Deepeess New Player

Im sorry, but why do think this is crap? unless you like to set who will get what in a run,
like "if the chest dps drop, the player A will be only one needing on it, and the rest have to pass on it",
this is lot better than what we have now.
But i agree that implementing a need on current or the role you queued up only, would solve most of those problems.

With the loot system that's on test right now, there's a chance that no one at all in the raid gets something useful to them. For instance, in the first room of Nexus with all the Luthor's, I got a set of tank pants. As a troll, the only think I can do with these is salvage them. That's great, there are salvage feats, but I can run low level solos/duos in less than 10 minutes for salvage material. There's a chance that the other 7 people in my run all get a gear piece as well and that none of us get our role. The tank gets a healer drop, the dps all get support roles, the healers get troll gear. As a community, there have been complaints about non-role gear dropping all the time, and that's still the case here.

However, in the loot system on live right now, if tank legs drop? A league run, or even a communicative pug group, can ensure the tank gets them if they need them. If not, then and only then, rolling for off-roles/salvaging can happen. I haven't sat down to really figure out percentages, but the chances of me getting a specific piece of gear with the new loot system is far lower than under the old. Especially in a league run. The devs seemed to take to heart that peopled wanted "something" from running an instance. However, I'd rather one person in my group get something they can use rather than all of us getting something we can only salvage.

That would only fix half the problem, though. Certainly it would stop a DPS from rolling need on troller gear; but it would not stop a DPS from rolling need on DPS gear every time whether they need the gear or not. Those kinds of jerks do exist. I've seen them in que groups, and I'm sure most people have seen those types of players out there.

As for my opinion, I don't think a loot system change is really necessary. Of course, I've become used to just losing everything but support gear and never completing DPS style feats (since I have no desire to play DPS). That's just the norm and something to swallow.
  10. Statman New Player

I think it's crap coz I more often than not run with my league, where we cooperate in loot rolls, where we run by the standard community loot rules, and people don't need off their current role (this is what benefits my league the most). If you somehow think this isn't going to be a crappy change for people who play similar to this, then I got nothing to offer you, you clearly can't see it through our eyes. This change is purely a PUG solution where 'ninja looting' often happened. This does absolutely nothing for cooperative groups, except give you loot which more often than not you probably can't even use. As far as I see it, there's going to be no way to give loot to others who could actually use it, rather it just goes to my junk pile for salvage.
  11. Statman New Player

That I understand, but I think (an opinion based on my observations) people seemed to have a much larger issue of 'off-role needing' than people needing when they already had the gear, at least that's the way I've seen it.

As for your opinion, this is actually mine too, lol. I've given up on collecting DPS styles, even now that I'm playing DPS more often. Despite this, I was plenty happy with how the loot system was working currently, but I can understand how it could be frustrating for those that PUG groups more than run with cooperative groups (league, friends, etc).
  12. Hallows Eve New Player

Pugs greatly outnumber the small amount of dedicated leagues, so it makes sense that the devs cater to them.
  13. Whizzkid Dedicated Player

It's obvious that there is indifference here so why not just make it this "Personal Loot" the default option but allow players to change it to one of the other options like "Need Before Greed", "Round Robin" etc if there group decides.
  14. Statman New Player

True, but I can't imagine it would be that much harder to code in an extra loot setting for groups rather than re-code how all loot is distributed (I do not know this level of coding, so I can't say with certainty).

Why cater to one or the other, when you could possibly cater to both? Doesn't make sense to me.
  15. Starblast Well-Known Player

Please tell me that these new loot tables will work on the Hand of Fate Operations? I NEVER win the codex rolls. With this I may actually have a chance! The only really raid that doesn't need this new loot system is Gates. I mean, many many people don't need a lot of that gear so it would be much more beneficial to pass it on. If it at least starts from the Hand of Fate DLC onwards then I'm all supportive of this :)
  16. rymmx New Player

this will make getting rares more difficult
    smh...
  17. Helping Hand New Player

You can't get tank gear if you're not fire, ice, or earth. They made it so if you're mental you will get either controller gear or dps gear. (Ran nexus twice on test, along with the duos once each, and the alert only seen trolled and dps gear. No one in any of the groups received anything off role).
Also in your response to the way leagues do loot, as of now on live only 2 people will come out with an 86/87 piece while the rest of raid receives no upgrade. On test at the end of paradox or nexus, each person is guaranteed at least 2 pieces of 86 gear. So overall it's better ten-fold, Deadmeat has been trying to explain this but people keep getting this twisted. Read slow and carefully next time to make sure you can fully grasp what's being said.
  18. farm3rb0b Dedicated Player

I know you've been posting this for the past two days, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you're incorrect. I have a pair of 85 tank pants sitting in the inventory of my test server character who was HL trolling the Nexus raid. Tank pants. Not fire, ice, or earth. This is the point in time where your reading slow and carefully comment backfires. Don't try to put someone else down when they have proof that what you're saying is incorrect. Maybe your group was incredibly lucky, but obviously the loot is not role-dependent.

In the current loot system on live, unless your group is so over-geared that everyone is wearing full 87 gear, then the person who can actually wear that 87 drop can get it. That's how leagues run. On test, the only guarantee is that you'll get some gear, not that you can actually use it. And, weapons? So much for farming the oppressor and sentry for the rifle and bow. You better believe that tank is gonna get that rifle over the dps who needs it. ;) It's not a matter of getting it twisted. It's a matter of testing it out, seeing the outcomes that actually happen, and comparing that to the system we currently have.

I think all gear from raids should be non roll till you equip them with this new loot system based even more on luck that would be the best thing to do.
  20. Red Hood Well-Known Player

Kind of sounds like you did this before they updated the test server buddy. So knows maybe you're right or maybe helping is. Bottom line though you're trying to hard to convince people about negative aspects of something you know nothing about........mind blown.
