I've just started playing again for a month - not sure if it will go beyond that currently and i have a few questions; though it seems i have picked a terrible time to come back if the Gameplay Discussion board is anything to go by. How is advancing through tiers now to raise ones CR IF you aren't interested in 4 or 8 person content? Ideally i don't even want to duo but i will if it will take the some of the pain out of it. From the bit of playing i have done, earning marks to progress seems terrible. So is there a way to earn marks at a reasonable rate or am i going to be stuck with a handful of Marks per week (since i don't care for 4 or 8 person content)? What is PftT? Is clipping still a thing? I'm not terribly interested in it (i'm old and slow these days) so if i can manage without it and still do well and get what i need to done then i'll be happy (and i don't PvP - no interest in being competitive anymore). What does "Open Episodes" mean? Content that was locked for non legendary members is available to f2p players temporarily? Thanks to any whom can help with answers.
Pftt= play from the tray. (Superpowers only) You're correct about open episodes. I'm not sure id enjoy playing the game without doing alerts (4player) and raids (8 player) instances. At the very least they are another part to the story being told in each episode. I know it's been said a million times but getting a group of friends or joining a league you are happy in makes the interaction with group instances so much better and even, for me anyway, the main part of playing. If you really don't enjoy the social, teamplay side of it, maybe mmos are not for you (I hate saying presuming things like that but it's supposed to be a team game even though sometimes it feels like a competition)
I've been playing MMO's since Ultima Online and even though this game is pretty much anti my playstyle (i mean the developers seem to actively try to kill it) I keep coming back because there are aspects to it i enjoy. Also, i was part of a decent league before i stopped playing last but it seems they've disbanded/gone inactive. I'm over 40, i've done the raid til you drop style of game play in WoW where i lead 40 man raid, tanked 40 man raids, healed 40 man raids as well as dps'd and been an officer in said guild. These days when i play MMO's i just want to relax and have fun and being in Australia, it's not conducive to finding a guild that's active at the main times i am - although i can be on a lot. If i found a league that fits in with what i enjoy i'd absolutely be team oriented should they need me to be, but finding one is like pulling hen's teeth. As for the non presumptuous parts of your post. Thanks for the info.
-Advancing through tiers without alerts and raids will take extra time.. u get 1-2 marks per duo.. 1 mark for solos... 3-4 marks per alert and 8-10 marks per raid... I would at least try alerts since it has a daily reset where raids are weekly... -pftt - answered already -clipping is still a thing however it isn't needed.. I hate clipping and I do rather well.. (I'm old too..) -open episodes = most of the DLCs are available for free for a limited amount of time.. so right now is a great time to play if ur not interested in spending money.. Enjoy the open episodes... this game is truly a great game... so don't pay attention to the toxic threads that fill our gameplay section... sure it has opportunities but it's still fun..
As a rule of thumb..... save your MoV. You can progress your CR with the gear you get from playing missions. I have recorded the progress of various of my characters. Although the game changed... the Marks and gear are pretty much the same.

Anyway, that being said the league I'm in and leagues I've been in before have always had a mix of players from all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand etc. Scaling to my side of the world , UK. They're definitely out there and my current one is certainly one of the best ones. The league recruitment section of the forums can also be helpful too if you'd rather be picked up than go looking.
Thanks, so essentially i am not even going to be able to get marks quickly enough to get my base running decently any time soon by the sounds of it unless they've changed what it costs to unlock things in your generator? I've yet to look. Still leveling since when i last stopped playing i deleted my characters because i was upset about the census (still am but i have no choice to live with it i suppose).
The Game Discussion board is rarely the go to for anything in the game apart from obvious bugs. Example: The last few weeks before a new DLC drops this game is literally the worst there is on the market, the week after the DLC drops the hardest, two weeks after the easiest. In the revamp the devs finally improved combat mechanics and stat curves, to get a better system. Pre-revamp you only had one possibility to play DPS, that being AMs with a certain 1234-rotation and very few available powers for it. Now you have the possibilities to play weapon only (+buffs, etc.), hybrid weapons and powers and superpowered, which allows you to use powers only, aka play from tray. They all have their up and downsides and you need different types of specs and mods to support the chosen playstyle (e.g. if you want to use powers, you need much more power than if you use weapons only). The guides section should have a more in depth explanation. Clipping is still possible, however the devs removed the ability to clip with most of the items. It's still possible to clip a damage-power with a non damage-power. It is possible to progress doing solos only iirc. Obviosly it will take a ton of time and you will always be short on marks, since you can always only do 1-3 solos at any given time, so your main progress will be through drops. Finding a league for duos and alerts would help your marks situation.

Thanks for the info, it all helps with deciding whether i'll keep going once my month is done. I have a couple more questions if anyone can help. What's the point of legendary these days (i'm legendary currently) since promethium lockboxes don't seem to drop anymore? Is it just the 500 currency per month and access to episodic content? Seems like these arcane time capsules i am getting have phased out the promethium boxes so that little benefit is no more. As for episodic content, i am pretty sure i'd bought a lot of the expansions/powersets previously so i'd probably not be missing out on too much from the ones i don't have since it will take me months literally to jump CR tiers.
How fast you progress really does depend on your method of play style, if you stay away from larger content it will slow down your progression a fair amount as you would be losing out on both gear drops and additional marks to buy gear from vendors. Anyhow, prom boxes still do drop, it's just that the Time Capsules drop every 20 minutes and the Prom Boxes are every 6 hours. If you're leveling up, you should have no problem getting marks to get your base up. If you do all the main and side missions going up to level 30, you get enough to get a jump on your base. Don't buy any venndor gear until you hit CR 116 at least, uless you're close to the 200 cap. Tiers 1-3 have plenty of solo missions. The two areas where you might get stalled are Tier 4 and Tier 7. T4 has no solos, but the duos drop good, unattuned gear. T7 is where the monthly episodes started (after Halls of Power 2). This is the part I find the hardest to level through because there are very few solos and you stop getting marks from the open world mission from HOP2 when you hit CR 147. I try to save my marks until I hit this CR range (after powering up my base) and use them for the vendor jewely to advance my CR. Open world content is where you get a lot of Marks of Victory. Here are the T1-T7 things you can do daily (in addition to solos). T1 - bounties that you pick up in safe houses (it may be hard to solo these, but you can jump in when others try to take them down) T2 - South Gotham missions, which you pick up in the Meta wing T3 - Central City, teleporter in the Hanger, each daily mission gives 2 marks T4 - Ace Chemicals and Stiker's Islad (hero) or Arkham and Steelworks (villain); there's also 2 daily bouties, but you can't solo them (as I mentioned, this is a bit of a dead zone) T5 - Gotham Wasteland, teleporter in the Magic Wing; Virtue Over Vices, get mission from Zatanna in Hall of Heroes (sorry, I don't know the villain version) T6 (Cr 100) - Gotham Under Seige and Metrolopis Battlezone (CR 100-104 is a sweet spot for marks because you still get them from T5 and T6; between solos and open world, you can get 13 per day) T6 (CR 105) - Patrol Catastrophe (2 marks and your choice of unattuned gear, plus a weapon) Metropolis Battle one Historic District (CR 105-111 is another sweet spot where you get marks from all T6 open world (10 daily, including solos) T7 - New Genesis
If you have a great deal if money you can buy green knight gear capsules off broker and open them. I skipped a whole tier that way. If say you're cr90 you'll eventually get a few cr91 pieces then it'll be cr92 then cr 93-94 etc cr118 ATM never spent not one mark cept buying styles
Nah i don't really have any cash. As i said, i trashed all my characters before i stopped playing cause i was angry about the census and no opt out, so i have had to start over. I did notice though i have a few bind to account rings in my shared bank that may help me.
I am only level 27 (but should hit level 30 tonight before i log off). I just took people's advice and unlocked supply drop I on my generator and have 48 marks odd left which i'll probably hang onto until i get a bigger utility belt.
if you're at that level I can help you. i'm on PS4 are you hero or villian and is your username the same as your forum name and I will be up a bit longer. We can get you geared up fast. You must take advantage of open episodes. you will get good gear and drops.
I'm on US PC hero side currently leveling my speedster. I appreciate the offer but if am going to keep playing beyond this month, i need to get used to stuff again. I'm not struggling difficulty wise, but i tend to like going through things properly once before i worry about trying to take shortcuts - which is why i haven't used my 500 odd replays to unlock feats other characters i've had have gotten.
with this new update we are all still getting used to things again. shortcuts are gone. but what everyone said is true. if you need help just PM me and I will get one of my characters close to your level. As i'm sure others will as well. plenty of solos though so if that is your thing you will be okay if not.
