Nature or Mental DPS?

    Hey folks,

I'm currently a mental dps at 88cr and 55sp (I know, I have the raise that soon), and I find that I'm doing really well, but starting to get a little bored with the power. I recently made an alt and tried nature dps and I love it, so I'm considering switching my main to nature. However, before I do so, I just wanted people's opinions?

What do you think is a better and faster at damaging, nature or mental?

    Thanks!

I've used both of these powers at 99 Cr and 132 Sp and I find that mental works better for me. That may not be the case for everyone but for me I find my numbers much higher in the mental power set. I use ALOT more power but with that comes more damage and I find that worth it. But you could also ask yourself which off powerset you like better, healing or controller? That could be the game changer for you.

I tend to see Mental push out higher numbers at equal skill levels. However, the difference between great and good is pretty big in DCUO. A great DPS can outperform a merely good DPS as any power. Case and point...

    NATURE!

    With Phase Dodge

    Without Phase Dodge

Yeah, I really love the high numbers I put out with mental. That's probably the only reason I've stuck with it. I don't use much power, which is good, but I totally understand what you mean. And regards to the off powerset, I've always liked healing better than controller, but I've never been good at either, that's why I stick to DPS. Lol. Thanks for the input.

    Hey Sore,

It was actually your guide that got me interested in nature, thank you very much. :) And yeah, I totally understand what you mean. Although I love dps, I wouldn't exactly consider myself a great dps, but rather a decent dps. Haha. I fear if I change to nature, I might not perform as well as I do now with mental. I'm definitely going to continue playing with my alt toon until I feel real comfortable with nature, then I'll decide for sure. Thanks for the input. I enjoyed the videos.

They are both solid I would stay with Mental till the drop the nature sorcery update, if they ever do.

Sure as you go nature an settle into a rotation they will change it up on you and if they update it and you love it it will look much better when graphically when it's overhauled.

I'd flip a coin then work out the strengths and weaknesses once it's been decided.

Mental and Nature are similar powersets in the fact that each has very long animations that benefit greatly from clipping. With both mental and nature you're going to have to be superspeed movement to maximize your potential. You don't always have to use phase dodge with either powersets but when power is available they benefit from it, nature is more dependant on phase dodge as your only other option is consumables or carnage which is like 30sec cooldown. Bloom still works but I took it out and just use phase dodge now. It also depends on what raids you think you will be doing primarily. Mental is much better suited for Paradox Wave than nature but nature is better in aoe situations like Nexus. Mental can be aoe with tkbolt but that is a power I do not like personally so I wouldn't recommend it from a personal standpoint but others would. Mental will also definitely use more power over nature, nature has a bigger learning curve because its a unique dps set but its also alot of fun.

You can certainly make the switch and not be that far off from the max potential of mental, the advantage is that you'll still be seeing good numbers when the raid is lower on power in 2 troll situations.

In DPS role, Nature is far superior. Wolf gives you a static +40% damage bonus and increases to critical hits etc. for beefy precision damage. Save your SP for swarm shield and healing. Regenerate is also an amazing supercharge for PVP.
