Its been said many times that a new power is not on the horizon. Its also been asked many times, for each power to have the capacity to play any role. Can we please have this? My hard light toon really wants to tank, my electric toon really wants to control, and my mental toon really wants to heal. As a side benefit, all roles would always be available because literally anyone could play them. That's four possible sets of gear, per toon per Tier... replays... DEVS? Are there limitations? Why can't we have this? Thanks and Happy Friday.
Because honestly its a stigma of MMORPGs. The only games that has where you can play TANK, HEAL and DPS in all classes is Elder Scrolls Online and from what I've heard Guild Wars 2 as well. But those games work COMPLETELY differently. Honestly the way it is currently is fine. There is enough customization and power-sets to choose from. Also they would have to COMPLETELY change TONS of how powers work and ADD more powers to current power-sets that don't have healing, controlling or tanking abilities. An update like this would essentially be ANOTHER revamp so please no, lets focus on content please.
I always thought it would be cool to be able to choose what power for your support side and damage side. Not going to happen but would be nice.
Your basically asking for another power revamp, which I'm not against but I think it will slow the game down.
One can always hope. Technically, it would be some work I am sure, but without any additional powers coming, the only viable solution for some variety would be this option.
Final Fantasy, as well, I am pretty sure, so that at least 3 MMOS that already have the capacity... On a side note, they aren't developing any brand spanking new powers, some abilities could be suitable for multiple roles, aka shield for tanking which most power sets already have.
I think the big question would be what would have to be sacrificed to get that kind of work done. It wouldn't be a small task by any means, and content releases did suffer to an extent when they were working on the power and stats revamps.
I totally agree the best time to do this, would have been during the stats revamp process... Since we cannot go back and change time, and no new powers are coming out, the only way I see we can keep the DEVs gainfully employed and busy, is to give them more work to do.
Not a bad idea but I can see the logistics in making that happen being a nightmare for the Dev team.. They'd need to revamp all 14 power sets and revise certain powers to do different thing depending on what role a player is using. I mean face it you can not just take a healer and wave a magic wand at it and say "now you can tank" Every attack needs its agro upgraded ... At least one power needs to become a self heal and so on. Then they need to do the same thing with a troll in mind... All powers need to hand out POT, which attacks do what as far as debuffing? Which attack becomes the power push? Which attacks stun and which hold .. etc etc etc. The whole thing could take months to accomplish and that's with them NOT spending any time on DLCs. Then look at it from the players side... Start with the obvious.... Artifacts. Right now if a player is running both roles available he probably has as many as 6 different one that he had to obtain and then fortify to 160. Well now you can add three more for each added role. THAT is an awful lot of Nth metal, Catalysts and Seals they need to go out and grab or purchase. Next up and along the same lines are the augments. Where before you were working on getting 8 different augments to 217 now you are out there trying to increase the level on 16. Again an awful lot of stuff to grab or buy. Minor matter compared to those two but armories would need to be increased. As things stand right now a player can get away with 2 total or maybe 4 if you want to use both roles to PvP. Now if you can be all 4 roles that figure can be as high as 8. One each for PvE and one for PvP. Again not any where near as big a deal as the augments and artifacts but going to take more real money to own that many and going to take up a lot more room in your lair. Going back to the side the devs would need to work on.. The UI would need some adapting as well. Que up for a raid and you have to answer the question which role are you willing to play with icons available for you to click dps and your one support role. Now that needs to have icons for all 4 roles ... NO you don't need to be willing to play them and could just click DPS but if the option to play all 4 roles exists and there are players out there willing to playing whatever.. it HAS to be included. While the ability to do so sounds interesting it seems like it would create a huge amount of work and would have been better if it had been coded that way and available from launch.
So White Mage can tank in Final Fantasy 11/14? I need to see this rofl. Not to mention doesn't final fantasy have dual classing? Different game dude cmon.
Or at least with the last revamp of the power/stat system. I do agree though that it should be the way the game was approached from the start, since it is way more in line with the comic lore. Done right it could also do wonders about balance issues. Then again, "done right" was never their approach in any aspect of the game, so....
If you plan to play for awhile, start leveling a heal alt, tank alt and troll alt. With the cheap 212 gear it wont take long
Honestly... sounds miserable. I already get enough flack from random queues where people try to force other players to change roles into something they are not geared or built for. The last thing I want is to queue in as a Healer, and then be told "Go Tank" when I'm totally unprepared. And even as a subscriber with maxed inventory and bank, I never feel like I have enough space for all the junk that drops. So maintaining 4 separate suits of gear is just not going to happen.
Have any of you tried to tank with Provocation Agents? This will allow you to taunt in any power, any role. It's not like you need tank gear. Plenty of tanks wearing DPS great whole tanking.
I definitely prefer the way it is now. Besides, a change of that magnitude would be a massive project for the devs. Content release would suffer. Massive thumbs down from me.
I was speaking of a realm reborn, where you simply equip the weapon type of the class you wish to play, and presto you are now a tank, heal or dps. Every character created can play as any class they want.
Yep. Done that. Been around since game went FTP in 2011. I am more after variety of power sets, load outs, and capabilities. Anytime more options are given to the players to expand on their imaginations, their creative intentions, that is a win IMO.
With Final Fantasy 14, Each weapon is tied to a Class/Job. Although your character can learn every job, you can't mix/match roles. If you enter an alert as a White Mage, you will be a healer. You also can't change jobs during an instance. The exception to this it seems, is the new Eureka Pyros content, where you can equip different abilities, so you could give your WHM tank like abilities. But this will be limited to Eureka only.
