Members Should Get One Free Style Unlock Per Month

In my opinion, the reason they wouldn't change anything is because the things that replay badges are used for aren't exclusively locked behind them. You can do the instances once per lockout, and you can get feats and styles just by playing the game. Members get a bit of an advantage to do an extra raid or two per month without the purchase of replay badges, but like I said, they won't want to fast track us too much if it means losing out on potential sales. If you needed replay badges to play the On Duty content then I could see them eliminating the cost requirement to play them for members, but that whole notion just sounds absolutely ludicrous.

I mean this is getting all very meta (talk about derailing lol) so maybe we should stop. But I find a distinction between someone making their case in a sincere way and someone who's just in to be contrarian. To wit: there is no reaching some people and while I think it's nice and admirable to reach out and listen, there's also wisdom in knowing that some people simply aren't interested in a real dialogue. I don't want to over-emphasize Wilder's post about contrarianism, but it's important to know what you're dealing with and expend your energy accordingly, at least in my opinion.

One issue with your argument that I see: it costs replay badges to get styles. You make the claim that we have other means to get those styles through grinding, but those other means often also cost replay badges because style drops are random and can take anywhere from 1-50 runs of the same content. We have a grindy way to get styles, but the grind can take years without replay badges. Feats are different. Feats outside of style feats can be accomplished without replay badges by repeating content.

How about a counter-proposal to improve the subscription model: Allow members to repeat older content without replay badges to obtain style pieces. The pieces would have no salvage possible, no stats attached, but provide purely style pieces when loot locked.

See the thing about this Jareth is this isn't trolling. Kid Multiverse is unhappy with the price for getting something else he already has and therefore was trying to find a way to find to "compromise" with the reality and what he would like done. I also don't think necessarily folks as a whole (oh sure a "great deal of many" but couldn't that be said for either side really) who would disagree with such idea most are just resigned to knowing they can't change it and leaving at that.

I will say that the current prices shown here make me think style unlocking wasn't worth it. Also if were all being honest here, pricing things in general have always been one of the "bad decisions" that get made in this game.... and at the end of the day you could make more money long term if you find a way to make things bought at a lower price consecutively.

Than again this company hasn't always been really about long term plans. Short term and mid term plans, yes. Long ones, no.

Style unlocking adds value to the existing membership grants of replay badges and marketplace cash. It doesn't take anything away.

Again, this is the reason they sell the replay badges. They want you to buy them if you want to grind past daily/weekly lockouts. It only costs replay badges for styles through style unlocking. Styles aren't exclusively locked behind replay badges so that argument doesn't seem valid. MMORPGs are grindy adventures and RNG is your constant companion throughout those adventures. That's just the way it's always been.

EDIT: It would be cool if old content that doesn't offer MoV could have their lockouts removed, but I think that could only work for solo instances.

There are other MMORPGs with less restrictive loot locks, especially as content becomes less relevant. That's why I mentioned it. ;)

Unfortunately, seeing as how styles are a huge aspect of this game, and seeing as how most mmo's are essentially treated as a service, they're counting on players who really wanna get their desired styles to go that extra mile and purchase what they need to so that they can hopefully get what they want faster.

Yikes, Jack. That was a really toxic post.

If you'r talking about feat points, only buy the tedious, grindy or expensive to get otherwise feats (like TC stuff or OP item feats). Easy feats to get just do them on each toon. I pay for every feat out of convenience because i'm lazy like that. I don't replay content usually so it's easier for me. My leaguemate on the otherhand prefers not to spend the replays on easy to get feats so he does as I suggested above.

Yeah, as I mentioned, I'm trying to adjust to being out from under a tyrannical dictator who expected replay badges to be spent exactly so in my former league. I used to just spend them on the tougher feats or those that would take longer to get.

As you've surmised, they're not looking to recoup their investments over the long term....yet that is what players are constantly telling them to do. If a company is depending on what they can get in the short to mid-term, playing the long game makes no sense.

Now if people are unhappy with the prices for said items (not a completely unfair assessment) then advocating for a price reduction (even if moderate) is fair. To expect the company to just essentially give away one "expensive" unlock every month just sounds unreasonable from a business perspective.

You may want to take a step back and realize that the potential exists that you are simply biased towards your own idea, and that you are opining that any of the folks in disagreement are actually acting in a contrarian way is merely a side-effect of that bias. #deathspiral

Or we can continue to just dictionary each other to death.

Wise man once say, “if EVERYONE ELSE doesn’t ‘get it,’ then it’s probably actually just YOU that doesn’t get it.”

That's certainly one way of looking at it, though not necessarily one that reflects the overall tone of the forums nor many of the posters who are quick to stomp on this idea in particular. Very happy to listen to and consider counterpoints that aren't obvious derails/ obfuscations though ;)

I believe every single post you post in this thread to be evidence to the contrary. The fact that you may be blind to it (as is evidenced by you referring to “the overall tone of the forums in general” being a ‘reason’ to allow your bias to influence you) makes this conversation now dull to me. The brick wall, as it always does, wins in a bout against the easily bruised and broken human head.

Sorry no one agreed with ya, kiddo. Better luck next thread.

If it makes you feel any better, I found your ricocheting between hostility, personal insults, condescension and pretend high-mindedness very amusing and I enjoyed the range of emotions featured therein. It was a journey :)

At the end of the day, you're just asking for lesser sales. Daybreak wants the replay badge spread thin across replaying raids, unlocking feats and/or unlocking styles to make more profit in replay badges. Feasible, but not profitable.
