So we have quite a few hairstyles in the game, but all of them are in place, never moving. Is it a tech issue or is it something the devs can explore and see if they can make it happen? Like...gravity wise it will make sense for my character's hair to float and move when I move around etc. Was just curious if It's possible or the hairstyles are built in certain way?
that sounds great. Right now I can make my hair look as if its moving by wearing starfires hair and the tattered cloak of corruption if you make them both black it looks as if your hair flowing. It would be better if it was really moving.
Yes I forgot about the Hula skirt but deffo! Yeah that's a work around with the Starfire hair & Tattered clock. But I was wondering if there is a reason moving hairstyles are not a thing. Maybe Megzilla could give an insight to this. I mean I know It's a different game but GW2 has moving hairstyles and it looks really good. So if they could bring it to dcuo, it would change customization by far.
Meg answered this a couple months back when asked (you can search the Dev tracker for her specific answer). They'd like to do something like this but it's not technically possible with the current game, and would require them to revamp a lot of stuff to accomplish.
Unfortunately, no it is not possible with our physics simulator. It is only able to animate 2D planes (like capes). We sculpt our hair as a 3D mesh, instead of making it out of cards (multiple 2D planes). I don't think having hundreds of tiny capes as hair would look very good, let alone be ok for performance. I agree that it would look really cool though.
Thank you for replying Meg, I appreciate it and understand. It's really a shame tho, but I still appreciate that we get hairstyles regardless.
Lol, yeah, especially with how those capes just love to go crazy. If I move slightly, jump down a bit, or the camera during a cutscene cuts away from and back to my toon, that cape just loses its mind and waves around and curls up on itself and stuff. If our hair did that, with each "cape" going a different direction we'd look like those early animation tests of Violet's hair when they were making the first Incredibles lol. Imagine if one day we just got an update that added that and everyone's hair just started acting possessed and they were all baffled, amused, and slightly creeped out!
No reason to be rude about it I was just saying I do it and I like the way it looks and alot of people do.
Sorry I miss read your comments I thought you were the way I did my cloak with my hair wouldn't look good sorry.
What about if the hairstyle moved on its own independent of of how you move, like an accessory? I'm imagining moving medusa hair.
