Making omnibus actually work, a suggestion.

As a returning player, I’ve got a fair amount of content to catch up on. I’ve been back for a little over a month and a half and still haven’t managed to run every (missed) raid at least once due to no one joining groups for certain content.

It seems to me that one of the main reasons for implementing omnibus was to help solo queuers/levelling characters get into less popular content, but the problem is that people running the omnibus raid for the weekly rewards simply make a group of 8 people and then jump into what is probably a worthless run for all involved, meanwhile I’m left queuing for Flash to the Future for the 20th time with no luck.

Two suggestions of varying severity to improve this:

    1) All omnibus runs can only be queued solo, obvious drawback of this is the need for roles and it maybe taking a while for a group to match.

    Or

    2) Only a group of up to 4 people can queue for omnibus raid, leaving 4 chances for a solo queuers to run needed content. Up to 2 can queue for omni alert, leaving 2 chances for solo queuers. This would let the group makers gather one of each role and then queue.

Right now the omnibus weeklies are just a box checking exercise of people building groups to run content they don’t need, the above suggestions would go some way toward helping more queues ping and letting people run the content they need.

I know some people are going to hate this idea, but convenience aside, would this not be a more beneficial use of the omnibus weeklies?

This isn't the true issue with omnibus. Half the time when experienced people have done the content, depending on what tier it is, they see the queue and let it drop, and than just requeue when they can. This is because due to the clamp, certain content doesn't have the right adjustment levels and the content itself is harder than it should be. Which means it maybe doable but everyone has to do it x, y, and than z in order to pass... which isn't worth the hassle for some people.

Also agree with this! An “anonymous” style queue ping would at least get more instances started. Leave within 5 minutes? Forego your omni bounty reward that week.

Only if they can tell when someone left vs when someone disconnected. I would hate to have my internet drop for some reason and then end up with no rewards that week. Unfortunately, such a system could still be abused by people who force a disconnection. If only it were possible to request that people simply be considerate of others.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way suggesting that programming resources be redirected to this type of thing, this is more just "spit balling" ideas to help improve the experience.

To the OP, instead of omni, maybe try Qing for all the raids in the tier you want under custom. I have had some success getting into raids i have missed doing this. you may not get the exact raid you want, but you will be in the correct ballpark.

I run omni raids as much as i can. 5+ times / day when i can play for multiple hours ( days off kinda thing ).. maybe have a MENTOR option for those at end game( nearmax CR ), with increased rewards or feats for helping new(er) players in older content. I get that this can and will be gamed by some, but the goal here is to encourage newer players to the game to stick around, spend some money and eventually "pay it forward".

Omni instances also could use a "cant enter boss fight" until everyone is in the "entrance circle" . even with the stat clamp there are still assclowns who will start a boss fight because they know they can do it without everyone else in the raid group. If you are one of those "i'm running my 256th alt and my time is more important than your experience" type of player, please go back to pornhub for your "solo experience".

So I do this at the moment, but for the reasons in my original post queues don’t pop very often.

My suggestions were a way to improve the efficacy of using the custom queue. If most omni runs are being run by prebuilt 8-man groups then the opportunity for a solo queuer to get into a raid is next to none (I’m speaking to the EU server where population is considerably lower).

Alerts aren’t so bad, but could still benefit from the above suggestions (yours included!).

Ultimately it comes down to is omnibus really helping people run older content or is it forcing groups of people who don’t want to run T1 Kahndaq to keep 8-man spamming the queue until they get an “acceptable” raid for their weekly reward?

There’s a lot of talk about player retention/bringing people back at the moment, and as someone who has just returned from a long break the most demotivating part of it is queuing all day for an older raid to pray for a collection drop of 1% probability (but that’s another problem altogether…) it’s no fun and certainly doesn’t make people want to stick around.

Like 80% of the time I use omnibus Duo I get one of the three Battle for Earth missions (South Gotham Courthouse/Hospital/The other one)

There's like 50 duos but I get these 3 an insanely disproportionate number of times. What's up with that?

There should be an entire day where Tier 1-3 content gets double rewards. That would guarantee people play older content.

Pick the lowest populated day (let's say it's Thursdays now) we'll make Thursdays "Legacy Thursday" and give double rewards for older content. More people will log in on the lowest populated day, and those people will mostly be playing the older content too.

    Sorry for the double post.

I absolutely let content go due to stat clamping. FOS 1-3, Kahndaq, Throne for example. Those are not with the 90min it takes with the current player base to make it worth my time. I get lower levels needing that content but the time it takes to explain how to do those raids to the 3 people in chat makes them unenjoyable.

I also play FF XIV, and what I like about how that game handles a disconnect is that once I re-log back in, I find myself restored back in my raid. In other words, I didn’t get kicked from the raid by the game. The players have the option of kicking me or waiting until I re-log but the game itself does not kick me. I always thought DCUO would benefit from a feature like that.

Spot on! I will go into Omni and play only if I am helping a league mate or friends level one of their alts up, but for me to voluntarily queue up Omni for “fun” no way. I hate playing that excessively [WORD DELETED] content. It is insulting to me, and a punishment.

Those are not WORTH the 90min it takes with the current player base to make it worth my time.

    What I meant to say

For my alts, I speed it up on event version of episode
And over time use replay badges for alts,
It is definitely punishing for newer players, significantly slowing down their feats progress for skill points, I only hope they have omnibus options on the quick que tab for source marks and regular Ques for easy runs for feats and no rewards, with resets meaning if we wanna easy runs for feats we just gonna have to wait for the resets.

Recently I did try a duo, I died, as a tank, by Superboy.

Apologies for going a little off topic, but I have a question about omnibus, and you guys might be able to answer.

If I (solo) go to ‘custom’ and choose a single raid to q for, does that raid fill up with people that are q’d for Omnibus raids? Or just players that have chosen to q for that particular raid in ‘custom’?
Does it work that way? If not, would that be something that would help or would it be pointless because a solo player could q for like every raid in custom?

    Hope that makes sense.

Once upon a time it did have this feature! I forget what they called it now but if you disconnected you had a grace period to reconnect and pick up where you left off.

However, I believe it was removed because it bugged so much and actually ended up locking people out of loggin back in until the "grace period" expired...

You know, I have heard other people speak of LINKDEAD, but, I never knew what they were talking about lol. Thanks!

If you want a particular instance, you need to queue that instance, then omni will (eventually) fill the spots. That's how it's designed to work...and it does actually work even if it takes longer than you want to wait. If you want to increase the chances of getting your run filled, try putting a few bodies together before queueing...the more roles you have in your group, the more random DPS's can fill it. If you are missing all the roles (like you only queue DPS), you will have a long wait in front of you. If you are trying to queue omni and just hoping to catch all these different runs you haven't yet been in, you are doing it wrong. You don't run omni to catch a run you want/need...you queue it to run 'whatever'.

Punishing those who can build a group to queue omni by not allowing them to queue as omni is not the answer to 'fix' omni. It's an attempt to 'train' the players to use the not good system they have implemented. 'Carrot or stick' can be a good motivation, but for something people are TRYING to do for fun...Carrot would be a better motivator than the stick. They have been trying this with the random drop collections, but that's still random, and not guaranteed. They need to up the SM drops on certain unloved runs, so someone who lands in that run MIGHT be inclined to stay, and more people MIGHT be inclined to queue those runs directly, meaning there would be more of those instances trying to fill from omni...meaning you MIGHT have a better chance of getting your run done. Extra 'stick' will just make people ignore Omni altogether. It's already very little fun, with very little reward (the boxes are all but trash now)...remove a bit more of the fun without adding any more reward is a good way to put that last nail in the coffin.
