DISCLAIMER: I still want non-collected base items to remain tradeable to both other toons, characters and via the broker, and don't want this to be changed. This idea is mainly concerning the collected base items displayed on a character's base tab in their inventory (the far right/last tab in the inventory). If I collect a base item on one character, that very base item can then be used by another character in their base. This would be applicable to all characters on the same account regardless of alignment (hero/villain). It would be applicable to those who have characters on more than one server. For example on PS, if a player has a hero character on EU server who collected the base item 'Etrigan Door' from the Justice League Dark Cursed episode, and they also had a character with a base on the US server, the character on the US server could use 'Etrigan Door' on US server in their base. Once the base item is placed in that base, it cannot be used a second time on that character or any other on that account unless the player has more than one of the same base item to begin with. Some players may have characters that have several of the base item. These would be tallied up in the base 'tab' in the inventory to give an overall amount of that base item across the account. So if Character 1 currently has 6 Stately Column base items (from Wonderverse episode) collected, and Character 2 currently has 4 Stately Column base items collected, after this hypothetical update the account would have 10 Stately Column base items that could be used by any Character on that account, provided they have a Base. There may be certain exceptions for this, such as the statues from the Anniversary event, as these require completion of certain content to access on the given character. Thoughts?
Definitely a +1 for me. An account bound furniture pool has been my pipe dream for DCUO for over a decade now. As someone who tends to build bases around the characters they play/create, I like to build on my alts and having accrued quite a bit of furniture on my main it'd be great if other character could benefit from it rather than it sitting in limbo forever. Not to mention, some pieces are a one time only consumption too (Spindrift Hologram, Death of Superman Newspaper Machine, etc.) and might not have been utilized/consumed on the proper character it'd benefit the most. Since decorating's been around for so long, there's quite a few people I've run into who have maxed out their 8 deeds for bases and have moved on to building with their alts now. Having this feature would vastly improve that transition, as well as encourage more building.
Yes, let's do this! Hard to imagine intra-account base item sharing being controversial.... until we're granted this privilege via Marketplace token and the Cheetah vendor after Character 1 has successfully collected 20 Stately Columns or 20 Etrigan's Doors. Note: sarcasm. The tricky part may be re-imagining a framework that allows a shared base items tab without making their collection feats account-wide without unlocking them. Conversely, adopting a base dispenser-like system to accommodate 13 yrs of base items could work but that sounds like a grueling recipe for developer insanity. In any case, smart people work stuff out, and I'm keeping my hope alive. Good post
Only if they let me delete base items from my inventory. Over the years I have collected alot of base items I wouldn't have if not for feats and I still hate navigating the list as it is right now.
I can't see them ever doing this for free, if it's even possible. It would likely be like style unlocks and be priced high. Maybe they'd sell an item for $1-200 that would do it since that seems that seems to be the price range they prefer to target these days. I don't think it's that easy to make things like this account wide since they didn't really build the game with account wide features in mind. I imagine if we had some sort of account identifier in game, then they could do things like make the social lists account wide but they just didn't do it at the time. As is, your daybreak account is only used to log in to the game initially and once you select a character, it ends up in the background. Now it's probably more trouble than it's worth to figure out some way to make it work with the legacy code. The other issue with this is that base items are one of the only things in game that drop regularly and sell fairly well, if often at low prices. Things like seasonal base items are one of the few things that make sure the dc cash flows at a steady pace, making things account wide will reduce the need for as many base items and reduce demand and then the in game cash won't flow as much thru the playerbase. The economy is in a really bad state but removing one of the sources of steady cash flow will make it worse.
I love this idea. I can understand it would be a lot of work and maybe impossible but it would definitely help me! haha. Here are some options that maybe aren't as hard to make? I'd love the option to be able to pay to buy more deeds for my main character. Why cap it at 8? Let me buy them! I'd also love the ability to use replays to unlock furniture if my main has attained it. At least the items like statues of triumph, or ones that come from investigations, and the Survival Mode. Any styles completed in a similar way are available to alts via replays, why not base items? Sold on Cheetah for replays. I'd pay for a support ally or artifact that secures a base item drop option from each boss or improves the quality of the drop.
